Jason Mraz Is the King of the Singles

Sorry, LeAnn Rimes, but Jason Mraz is the new king of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

The oft-fedora-sporting singer-songwriter has broken a monumental record as his reggae-ish jam 'I'm Yours' has spent a staggering 71 weeks (that's almost 1.5 years, people) on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Trust us, you know the floaty little song. Here it is:

Mraz says that he's actually been playing the jammy tune during his concerts for about five years, and that he "noticed almost an immediate response to it and people really celebrated in a different way during that song ... By having those three years to jam to the song, it gave us the opportunity to do something simple, yet spirited," he tells the Associated Press

"And now of course, that we've been playing with people really owning it on the record, it's taken it to a whole new level," he said.

"I'm Yours" first charted in May 2008, hit No. 6 in September 2008 and has spent 71 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart. (The previous record-holder, LeAnn Rimes' late-1990s hit, "How Do I Live," lasted 69 weeks.) Mraz's tune also nominated for "Song of the Year" at this year's Grammy Awards.

Though the accomplishment is one the 32-year-old is proud of, he says it doesn't mean he's necessarily reached a milestone in his career.

"I don't feel like I crossed a finish line. I don't feel like I've sweated for 70 weeks. I feel like the song is just doing its thing and it was a real gift," he said.

Mraz has spent the last two years on the road promoting his latest CD, the platinum-selling "We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things." That time on tour has been documented to "Jason Mraz' Beautiful Mess - Live from Earth," a live CD/DVD out Nov. 10.

"Before we hang up our hats for the year, I thought it would be great to capture the concert in an adventurous style so that my grandmom can see what I've been up to for two years," he said with a laugh. "She doesn't like YouTube. She says the quality ain't that good."

I Love Jason Mraz! Saw him on Saturday Night Live and thought, "who Is this guy." Went out and bought his most recent CD next day. Now I'm looking for all his CD's!

I have to agree. I've been to alot of concerts this year and his was hands down, the best one. I went with my 17 yr old daughter and we had a blast. What was so great was his music speaks to all ages. I can't wait until he plays Jones Beach again; hopefully next year!!!

He so deserves this! My four year old grandson has had a blast not only listening to this song but sharing with other people in singing it with the zest of.....Jason!!!! He has also been sharing further by giving this CD as gifts!

Hmmm i live in a major market,Chicago, and own a label and online station never heard of this guy or the song but there is so much out there it would be easy to not even recognize the song as its not a stand out or song thats catchy. Thats along time on the chart but Im asking around and no one here knows of him

Well, I don't live under a rock or in a cave and I listen to all sorts of music but I have never heard of this guy or this song. I won't say it's great but it's not bad.

I can't believe that this song actually stayed there for 71 weeks! I mean it's OK, but it's not that good. As far as Marz himself, he is just OK too! At least you can understand what he is singing, and he looks halfway decent. A reggae wannabe? I thinks so, but I could be wrong.

Good for him he has had his song stay on the top 100 for so long. I just wonder how many other songs of his have even broken into the top 100... Perhaps he is another "one hit wonder"? I like many others who have posted have never heard of him and I enjoy a WIDE variaty of music. Oh well, good for him anyways.
