Chris Brown has been sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community labor for his felony assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna in February.

In his first communication with the public about the attack this summer, Brown told his fans how sorry he is about the beating incident. "I am very sad and very ashamed of what I have done... I've told Rihanna countless times and I am telling you all today that I am truly, truly sorry that I wasn't able to handle the situation both differently and better. " he said.

Back in April, Brown pleaded not guilty to both assault and criminal threat charges in court.

Brown's manager, Tina Davis, was named by TMZ as the woman behind the text message that sparked his alleged beating of Rihanna. She has since denied the claims, saying: "The rumors in circulation are false. There are no emails between Ms. Davis and Mr. Brown of the type which have been described in media reports."

Court documents revealed that the police report claims Brown allegedly assaulted Rihanna in his car after she discovered a text message on his phone. According to the report, Brown smashed her head against the window, and then punched and bit her.

TMZ obtained a photo that appears to be singer Rihanna, taken shortly after Brown allegedly beat her following a pre-Grammy party. Police have said the woman had visible injuries, and that Brown was gone from the scene when they arrived.

Brown can be seen leaving the police station after being booked. According to police reports, he assaulted Rihanna in the car, and told her "I'm going to beat the s--- out of you when we get home." He also allegedly threatened to kill her after she told her assistant to call the police.

In their cover story, PEOPLE spoke with the father of Rihanna, who says he hopes his daughter is done with boyfriend Brown after his alleged assault. Shortly after, reports that Rihanna and Brown were back together in Miami emerged.
PEOPLE
Brown, seen a day before the alleged attack, released a statement on Feb. 15, which read in part, "Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired."

This dude needs to just vanish from the public's eye. He's simply human garbage unworthy of anyone's attention or time.

So we really don't know what set off the dramma! I'm not saying that he wasn't wrong cause he was for hitting her, but if he wasn't a star noone would care as much!! Please!, Please! get off Chris and give him time to heal!! He is human just like us! We all make mistakes and he is paying for it!! He is an Artist that makes beautiful music and so much more. There is alot of good in him,he has enough to deal with! Quit slanderring his name! Stop making him suffer over and over again! How would you feel? Put yourself in his shoes!!He has enough to deal with! Lift him up and encourage him to keep going! God forgives us all for all the stupid things we do, so forgive Chris!!!

So let me get this straight. If both Chris and Rhianna decided to put the past behind them and start dating again, they would be breaking the law and could risk going to jail. Is that how this judgement works?

I wonder how many women end up dead because they thought they 'put the past behind them'??
I believe if Rihanna wants him near her it's ok, but if Chris is near her and she wanted to call the cops, he would get in more trouble.
His "MOMMY" should quit lying for him btw. He's a grown man and that's why he is on FELONY probation. I believe no one who can be rehabilitated should be locked up but that is not the rule in this country...HE SHOULD BE IN JAIL. Let's hope one day the judge that let him walk doesn't regret it. This guy is an animal he needs more than his mommy and pastor!

I don't know and neither do you. Tell me, oh Judgemental One, how do you KNOW that Chris Brown isn't really sorry about what has happened. People make mistakes...even you...unless you're inhuman.

Because he didn't say sorry until after court.
The odds are extremely great that Chris will continue to be an abuser - read all the statistics - you say Chris may be honest in saying he is sorry - well, the majority of these abusers say they are sorry and they believe they are sorry - but, they also blame everyone else for their anger issues. Just read the local news once in a while - you will read the deadly outcome of these abusers - sooner or later - I hope for your sake that you do not fall into that category - what he did is wrong. Please do not get yourself into the same situation - you may not have been taught that it is wrong - but, IT IS.
I don't think the case should have proceeded to court. Rihanna was reluctant AT BEST to cooperate with authorities. It was only when she was subpoenaed did she state that she would fully cooperate. I am a firm believer that if the VICTIM does not want to continue with any criminal proceedings, then the District Attorney shouldn't have the right to proceed with the case. Many vicitims of domestic violence often resume an intimate relationship with their perpetrator. Hence, it should be up to the VICTIM to specify that they want charges. I am positive that Chris and Rihanna are still in a relationship, which is why her lawyer wanted the 100 yard restraining order dropped.

That is the most ridiculous comment I have read about this incident. How many battered women are too scared to procede? I am a product of a violent father whose mother was battered constantly in front of her children. No wonder no of us can maintain a normal relationship.
I know Chris Brown is a PUNK P***Y. He not even a man and I for one will not be buying or listening to any of his music anymore

you dont have to buy his cd. we will, good riddance.
I HOPE you Never be Abuse
Ah. So what you're saying here is he doesn't get a second chance to make things right between himself and his woman regardless of whether she wants the samething or not and you based this on what others have done. I get it. "Mr. Brown, you'll get no second chance. Your first chance was your second chance! And even if you had a second chance, you blew it b/c of what Bobby "BROWN" did to Whitney? Get it? It's over between you two." Wow.
