Erin Andrews Calls Naked Romp on Tape a 'Nightmare'

ESPN reporter Erin Andrews said in an interview with Oprah Winfrey airing on Sept. 11 that having secretly videotaped nude footage of her distributed on the Internet was a "nightmare." She'll never forget when she "opened up the computer (and) could feel my heart pounding."

Andrews' attorney has said the blurry five-minute video was shot at a hotel without her knowledge and she plans to seek criminal charges and file lawsuits against whoever shot the video and anyone who publishes it.

The reporter also says she's excited to get back to work this fall, adding "it's really going to help me heal my wounds."

Andrews will be working on air Thursday night for the first time since the video became widespread news. She'll be the sideline reporter for ESPN's broadcast of South Carolina at North Carolina State.

It was not clear when the video of Andrews in the hotel room first appeared on the Internet. The person who first posted the video didn't identify the nude woman, and Andrews' attorney later confirmed the video was of the 31-year-old reporter.

Andrews, a former University of Florida dance team member, was an Internet sensation even before the video's circulation. Some Web sites have referred to her as "Erin Pageviews" because of the traffic she can generate, and Playboy magazine named her "sexiest sportscaster" in both 2008 and 2009.

She has covered numerous sports for the network since 2004, often as a sideline reporter.

All these tapes purportedly hitting the internet yet no one to show you how to see them.

I read scores of blogs from bloggers saying they couldn't find the videos of Erin Andrews, and I couldn't find them myself.

Now, AOL reports a threesome between Eric Dane and two other women (one his wife), but doesn't tell us how to view the videos.

Moral outrage against murder doesn't require released video tapes of acts of murder to unleash the forces of recrimination.

But where nude video tapes are concerned, celebrities ought to shrug off unintended public access to them. Why?

1) The "acts" being videotaped are not illegal.

2) To condone the tapes, by viewing them for prurient reasons, is a complement to those who have been blessed with the looks and figures to have great sex with great looking people.

3) To malign the tapes, by seeking prosecution of those who release them, reeks of hypocrisy where celebreties are concerned. Celebreties are, after all, talented exhibitionists, whose exhibitionism, it has been shown time and again, doesn't stop at the bedroom.

This doesn't mean that celebreties should a) not take measures to cover up the peepholes or b)stand in the way of prosecuting the video tapers. But suing video tapers reeks of hypocrisy. Celebrities' reputations are not typically damaged by promiscuous sex, and Erin Andrews, I'm sure, is living fine off the proceeds of her noteriety that has increased by this event.

I've seen the video (there are lots of places to download it from if you know how) and she ought to be suing the writer of the headline as well. The tape is not a "sex tape" and it does not show any kind of "romp." She's simply standing in front of a mirror, fixing her hair. She's shown mostly in profile, from a distance, through a very small peephole, which distorts the image as well. If she hadn't admitted it was her, nobody could have proved it was anything other than a resemblance. But no thinking person would describe the tape as a "romp," which implies she was engaged in some sort of sexual activity.
