(AP) - Movie audiences are continuing to visit "The Final Destination" as the fright flick took in $15.4 million over the four-day Labor Day weekend to remain the No. 1 box-office draw, according to studio estimates Monday.
Released by Warner Bros., "The Final Destination" raised its 11-day total to $50.6 million.
Quentin Tarantino's World War II epic "Inglourious Basterds" ran a close second with $15 million from Friday to Monday. The Weinstein Co. tale lifted its total to $95.2 million in its third weekend.
Debuting at No. 3 with $13.9 million was 20th Century Fox's romantic comedy "All About Steve," starring Sandra Bullock on a cross-country trek pursuing the man of her dreams.
Do creepy kids and psychopaths fill you with joy? If so, this could be the summer for you.
There may not be a ton of horrror movies in the coming months, but they sure do pack a punch. Not only will Michael Myers resurface and the 'Final Destination' kids die grisly deaths in eye-popping 3D, but 'Evil Dead' director Sam Raimi will tear himself away from the 'Spider-Man' flicks to return to his roots with 'Drag Me to Hell.'
Hang onto your armrests and prepare yourself for the horror movies of summer.
What It's About:'Spider-Man' director Sam Raimi makes a welcome return to his B-movie horror roots -- you know you love 'Evil Dead' -- with the tale of a loan officer (Lohman) who's targeted by a deadly curse after refusing to give an appropriately witchy-looking old woman (Raver) an extension on her house loan. Depending on your point of view, it's great escapist entertainment or an awesome form of wish fulfillment for the hordes of Americans currently over-extended on their mortgages. Genius.
What It's About:Creepy kid movies just never go out of style. In the latest, as the tagline promises, there's something wrong with Esther (Furhman). Something very, very wrong. Not only does the newly adopted daughter of Sarsgaard and Farmiga throw girls off jungle gyms and set tree houses ablaze, she speaks with a slight Eastern European accent. Extra creepy.
What It's About: Only Rob Zombie would have the audacity to remake a classic like 'Halloween' -- and after the success of his 2007 "reimagining," why not do another? Tyler Mane returns as Michael Myers in a sequel that takes up where the '07 movie left off; and given Zombie's interest in Myers' back story, expect to learn even more about the legendary psychopath ... if you find that kind of thing, you know, appealing.
What It's About: Thought the filmmakers behind the $150-million-grossing 'FD' franchise had finally run out of ideas on how to craftily and cleverly kill off teens trying to cheat fate? Wrong. This time they're doing it in multiple dimensions. Expect most of the unknown actors listed above to suffer grisly deaths -- in 3D!
Among the weekend's other new releases was Lionsgate's thriller "Gamer," which pulled in $11.2 million to finish at No. 4. "Gamer" stars Gerard Butler in a tale about real humans controlled by players in deadly games.
Opening at No. 10 with $5.3 million was Miramax's comedy "Extract," starring Jason Bateman as a businessman whose personal life heats up just as he's trying to sell his flavor-extract company to General Mills.
The Labor Day weekend is traditionally a slow one at theaters, with audiences preoccupied by outdoor activities and a new school year. But with Hollywood fresh off a summer revenue record of $4.25 billion, theaters did solid business over the holiday, with receipts for the top-12 movies at $102.6 million, up 10.5 percent from Labor Day weekend last year, according to box-office tracker Hollywood.com.
"It's been a huge summer," said Bert Livingston, 20th Century Fox distribution executive. "Especially when the economy has been the way it is, our business is thriving, because people want to escape and go and lose themselves for a couple of hours."
For the year, Hollywood revenues are running at a record pace of $7.4 billion, 7.8 percent ahead of 2008 ticket sales. Factoring in higher ticket prices, admissions for 2009 are up 4 percent compared to last year's, according to Hollywood.com.
"We couldn't be in a better position heading into the fall," said Paul Dergarabedian, Hollywood.com box-office analyst. "We've got momentum with us."
Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Monday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com. Final figures will be released Tuesday.

big freakin deal that final destination is still no.1, its only made 42 million in 4 days, a far cry from a successful film. 42 million was probably what it cost to make so its barely breakin even. if it werent for the cheesy 3d it wouldnt be number 1 cause it sure aint for the acting. remakes suck and so does final destination.
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos

These movies in top ten all look like straight-to-DVD.

The only movie on that list I want to see is District 9. I'm suprised G.I. Joe isn't higher in the box office. Haven't seen it myself, though.
So far the best movie I saw this summer was Star Trek, with Transformers 2 at a close second.
