Actress Michelle Stafford, 43, is expecting her first child this December through a surrogate, PEOPLE reports. 'The Young and the Restless' star spent "a three-year journey through hell" struggling through fertility treatments and surgeries, but now admits she's "elated, ecstatic" that she'll finally have a child of her own, Stafford said in a statement.Stafford, who is single, tried artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization and also looked into adopting after deciding to start a family on her own. Four surgeries and three egg retrievals later, she finally arrived at the surrogate option.
"I never wavered in my desire to be a mother. But I did waiver on aspects of the process. It was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life," she said.
She admits she's looking forward to a baby shower at the home of pal Kirstie Alley -- and readjusting her take on the dating world. "This entire process has been very, very difficult to do on my own and has made me realize the importance and reason for a partner," Stafford added.
"Dating men and telling them I'm expecting in December is a little different. I know I just need to find someone who wants the same things as I do," she said.

Joe. Too bad YOU had to be born. I'll bet you were raised in the perfect family, too.... Well, YOU just proved my point that single moms CAN raise well-adjusted kids. I should know I have 1 "illegitimate" son and 2 from my ex-husband.
No one said that people should just have kids and not take care of them... You idiot. It's people like you who don't read the full story or know anything about what you are talking about, that influence stupid people in this world.
PLEASE DON'T REPRODUCE!!!!

It's a little late to suddenly "realize the importance and reason for a partner." But, nonetheless, I hope the baby is healthy in every way.

I always thought the "expecting as baby" phrase was funny, like what else would a pregnant woman "expect"? Like, "Hey, I called Pappy John's and was EXPECTING a pizza, but a BABY showed up." Or, "she was expecting a baby, but when they did the C-section, they found a football and a soccer ball."

That's all this dimwit whores of Hollywoo know how to do breed, and when they can't do it on their own, they float their money to women who can. It is absolutely disgusting!

If you can afford to support them, I say have as many kids as you want. The selfish people are the ones who drop babies like cats having kittens and have no means or desire to support them and think it's the taxpayers' responsibility to foot the bill.

When I was in my early 20s I used to watch it, and remember her name. Yes, she may have the money to support the child, but think it is very selfish that Ms. Stafford wants to bring a baby into the world outside of the committment of marriage. That is not setting a good example to impressionable children that watch the soap Ms. Stafford is in. I am pretty sure the U.S. has one of the highest, if not the highest, out-of- wedlock birthrates, which is not something we Americans should be proud of.

Many people end up raising a child alone(I did) but it was not a plan. To plan to raise a child alone so the mother can have the experience of being a mother is extremely selfish, in that the child is put from the start in a planed half family. Although it is common , and many of those mothers are well able to bring up those children, it is still selfish

Good for her!! Best of luck to her! Just because she can't find Mr. Right, that shouldn't stop her from passing up her chance to become a mom.
I am 36 years old & plan on becoming a single mom through AI next year!!!
Love it!!

All of these young people think they will never reach 30 and if they do believe they will be too old. They will instead just start to reach maturity at 45 to 50. Emotional and mental maturity is a lot different than physical maturity. If we are only interested in physical maturity, we will be no better than the animals that live a natural life in the wild. We are human and are created in G-Ds image. Let us not forget that.
