Teri Hatcher Runs Through Bucket List

'Desperate Housewife' Teri Hatcher is making like Jack Nicholson and checking off items on her own, personal bucket list. "I want to learn to play a couple of songs on the guitar. I want to learn a few of those fancy dances from one of those 'Dancing With the Stars' teachers. And I want to run a triathlon," the actress told PEOPLE, and getting the jump on her list, Hatcher is training to participate in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon on Sept. 13.

Disney, the parent company behind 'Desperate Housewives,' asked Hatcher to lead a team in this year's triathlon. In addition to fulfilling a personal goal, the 44-year-old star is also raising money to benefit the Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

Hatcher says running is the most difficult part of training for the race. "It's the least fun for me," she says of the four-mile run that caps off the event. "By that point, I'm really tired, so the whole time I'm thinking, 'I'm not going to make it.'"

"I'm just out to do it and I did it," she says, explaining that winning is not her top priority. "I did surprise myself that I'm in better shape than I thought I was."
