'Prairie Home' Host Suffers Mild Stroke

'Prairie Home Companion' yarn-spinner Garrison Keillor is being treated at a Minnesota hospital for a minor stroke. Karl Oestreich, a Mayo Clinic spokesman, told reporters Keillor suffered the stroke Sunday morning and is currently being treated at Saint Marys Hospital on the Mayo campus in Rochester.

"He is up and moving around, speaking sensibly, working at a laptop, and it's expected he'll be released on Friday," said Oestreich, who believes Keillor will be able to resume his normal schedule next week.

A representative for Keillor didn't immediately comment.

The Pioneer Press is reporting that staffers of his folksy radio program were told today about Keillor's condition and reassured he was going to be fine.

Keillor underwent open-heart surgery at Mayo Clinic in 2001.

Glad to know the MD thinks Garrison's "talking sensibly". I love him because he doesn't -- most of the time. He makes me laugh and touches my heart.

Hmmm....I guess Garrison had a bit too much cotton candy (or took the wrong ride). I'm glad he'll be ok, though, but it sounds like another "repeat" show for this saturday.

i had a major heart attack only a month ago.....i now have 5 stents in my heart.....i am weak but trying to recover....as i hope you are.....so many people love you and your work.....including me......i should be so lucky i am noone and it is incredably lonly...........but i wish you well you at least would be missed.....smiles...

it sounds like you may be suffering with "depression". This is not uncommon following a heart attack. It would be wise and much safer if you bring this to your Drs' attention. Mild exercize (walking) will help with the depression and will help you to gain strength back. Feel better, pat

OMG! I was so worried when I saw the headline. Thank goodness he's going to be okay! I'm 33 years old and started listening to Mr. Keillor when I was a kid-at least 20 years ago, thanks to my parents. I have fallen in love with his stories and even have been to his show.
