I am happy for Katherine Heigl and her husband adopting a baby. Such a beautiful, selfless act on their part, whatever the country that the child came from. At least it's nothing like actress Michelle Stafford having a baby out of wedlock. My birth parents(now divorced, and whom I located and now have contact w/her)gave me up for adoption at birth because of my condition. Talking about this, this is getting too emotional for me, so to all those who adopt children, may God bless you and your children.

Right on! I agree with you 100%. There are so many children in this country who are being passed around to different foster families and are in desperate need of a stable, loving environment. This overseas-adoption thing reminds me of the "dogs in purses" trend; an ethnic baby is the coolest new accessory.

I'm am going to have to adopt one day. I have pretty much decided on a baby from China. I would like to adopt an American child but they usually have some sort of major health problem (many born as crack or meth. babies), the price to adopt from foreign countries is usually HALF of the price of a domestic adoption, AND you usually have to weight four(ish) years for a healthy baby in America where the time is half (or less) in other countries. It's a sad state. But put yourself in the shoes of those who can not have children, look at the facts and then think about what you would do.

As someone who has adopted a child from the U.S. foster care system - I can honestly say that I will NEVER DO IT AGAIN! I cherish my beautiful daughter but the process was too excruciating and painful to repeat! Mandatory court hearings where the biological parent had representation and I did not; Months of social worker visits (always arranged around their schedule, never mine or my daughter's); mandated visits with the biological parents (who most of the time never showed up); not being able to send my daughter to a school of my own choosing; unending administrative paperwork and a fee to accompany every form; me and my family being scrutinized and judged and frankly not even being able to truly "parent" my daughter the first 9 months she was in our home - and so much more!! The foster care system fails the thousands of foster children in their care by putting so many roadblocks in the way of adoption, by giving preferential treatment to biological parents and relatives even though they have already failed the children and are often drug-adicted, self-absorbed or abusive. I applaud anyone who adopts a child, from anywhere. And were I to do it again, I would adopt internationally and would never feel a bit of guilt about it.

You are all entitled to your own :Frame of reference" what you are not entitled to is being insensitive, rude, ignorant or just plain nasty. As I see it, and this does not mean I am pushing it on you however, I am inviting you to consider that a child is a gift from God, sometimes not appreciated or appreciated so much that they are put up for adoption. The adoptive parents are a gift from God because they have the LOVE that is needed to make the child feel loved and trive...Should there be anyone out there that cannot in good conscience agree then so be it..Live with yourself and enjoy life as you see it!

Wow, there really is a misconception about adoption in the US. I got two "babies" at the same time (15 months and 33 months). It was free! Didn't cost us a dime! There are no bio's in the picture, both signed off a long time ago. Plus the medical/daycare benefits that we get for the children is amazing. We were matched with these two babies in two months. We knew people going overseas that took two years and tens of thousands of dollars. It is always better to research a topic than to throw out untrue facts. Local/US adoptions are the way to go!!

It is a comment like this which truly demonstrates an unbelievable ignorance of the process! My husband and I adopted our Russian-born daughter over 14 years ago due to the fact that no USA-born child was available to adopt by us. Our "advanced ages" (early 40s!) and the fact that we already had a child were cited as the reasons. Adoption is a win-win situation, however it happens. Every child deserves to have a forever family, however that happens!

Katherine Heigle (whatever) is a pretentious snob. Ask her Greys cast and crew "it's always about Katherine." She apparently snubbed them all at the awards. How can someone so completely focused on herself care for a child? If you ask me-it's a publicity stunt. She is relatively young and could have a child easilly herself, so why is she doing the whole 'overseas gig?' because she sees all the press it got the rest of them-Angelina, Madge, etc, she wants to be in the same ranks...careful what you wish for Kathy!-too vain.

Who the hell cares where the kid is from?? A child from the US is no more deserving than a child from Korea and vice-versa. A baby that didn't have a home has one now, and I think that is beautiful.

I SEE WHERE ALL OF THE HOLLYWOOD STARS ARE ADOPTING KIDS FROM EVERYWHERE BUT THE U.S.. ISN'T THAT A NICE TREND. AS A KID THAT SPENT ALMOST 8 YEARS IN A CATHOLIC ORPHANAGE (PRISON), THIS REALLY WARMS MY HEART RIGHT UP. ALL OF THE KIDS IN THIS COUNTRY CAN REALLY LOOK UP TO THESE LOSERS. I REALIZE THAT ITS MORE DIFFICULT TO ADOPT HERE BUT THESE ARE YOUR OWN PEOPLE AND THERE ARE MANY FINE KIDS IN THIS COUNTRY W/O PARENTS AND THEY ARE BEING PASSED OVER FOR A STORY. I AM DISGUSTED W/ THESE SO CALLED TRASHWOOD STARS. WHAT A DISGRACE YOU ARE.

This is for Kevin....where on earth do you get the idea that there are many children available for adoption in the US? Guess again.......while there are children in foster care, there are few that are adoptable. The courts do not several parental rights on the kids, even the parents in prison for life or that have badly abused their kids. Don't bring up single mothers as they are keeping them or aborting them these days. Before you open your mouth with your uninformed opinions....do the research.

How do you come by your information? Do you know her personally? I bet that you don't. You assume a lot, by the way. Something else....just how do you know that she could have a birth child of her own???? Do you havae the info from her medical records? If so, how did you get the info you claim to have? I would be interested to know this. Then we will start on you and your life..........made public...

you are an absolute disgrace, why don't you just move your sorry ass over to china, if we ever have a war with china on our home turf, you would be my 1st target because i know what they look like. there are many children in this country who are not ill, handicapped w/ medical conditions or any other problems. you probably shop at walmart, so you can save a couple of dollars and do your part to help drive more american busness's under. you lady disgust me, i went to war for your sorry ass, boy am i proud.

Jim, Can't help but wonder if you stayed in the orphanage because of your sorry arsed attitude. I hope that you get the mental help that you obviously need. My father spent many years in a Catholic orphanage and he told me that it was because he had not been signed away. He also told me that it was no bed of roses but he was fed, educated, clothed and got medical care and learned how to behave. He also told me that the kids that were adoptable learned early on how to behave and deal with possible parents. So what ever happened to you.......your own fault. Again...get some mental health for yourself.

Dominique, Children are children no matter what ethnicity they are. I commend Madonna, Angelina & Catherine Heigl for opening their homes to "CHILDREN" in need of a family & home. It's ignorant individuals like you that continues the cycle of hate by way of ignorance in this world. It doesn't matter if you are black either, what you said was completely wrong.

If you are insinuating that I am ignorant, that is absolutely incorrect. When I said that, I was actually joking. I love people of all races. In fact, my boyfriend is Caucasian. I was not being racist at all and I was not wrong. Its just that when celebrities adopt African babies, it seems like they arfe trying to flash them off to prove they aren't racist. That's it!
As a social worker working in child protective services I can tell you that if you want to adopt a newborn or a child under about age 2 there is no good way to do that in today's child protective system. Between the judges giving the parents one more chance and one more chance or setting the bar so low for the parent to get the child back it just becomes an impossible nightmare for both the prospective adoptive parents and the child and in the end nobody wins.
That and it is also true then that children who are older who are finally released by court order from their parents and available for adoption have been in the system so long that they are no longer cute and cuddly babies and thus not "desirable" anymore.

(speaking only somewhat sarcastically I say)
Given the other post on AOL about Nicole Richie naming her son Sparrow--and celebrities naming their children Zuma or Bronx or Pilot Inspektor (which his famous father deliberately misspelled), or Rumor, or Apple, or Banjo, or Shiloh, or Suri or something equally wacky--they either have their own children or adopt from a foreign country because if they tried to adopt a child from the US the birth parents and judges would object to their weird name choice.
