almost for got...your screen name speaks volumns about you and what sort of person you are. Also, have you bought American and even looked into adoption of an American child?
I wonder how long it will be until the adopted daughter follows "mom's" lead and starts chain-smoking.

Couldn't adopt from your own country? You should have to go live there.

I find it interesting that there are some people that are judging us for adopting outside of the US while those that are giving birth to children are not being judged for not adopting from the US first. As you said," there are children here who need homes". Why is it that those adopting are the only ones that get the judgement? And I have to say, with the scrutiny that we received when adopting (from homestudies to 5 inches of paperwork), I deserve to parent a child from wherever I choose. It is a personal decision. My two son's birthcountry is Kazakstan, and I could not be any prouder!

Regardless of the fees and issues of adopting American children, I still think this is where they should start. I get so tired of these celebrities, where we pay for alot of the money they make, spending all their time and money on other countries and not here in America. I read an article about the Olsen twins being great employers, of a purse factory, in another country, of how they gave maternity leave to those workers, who probably dont make enough to support the baby they are having anyways. Why do these celebrities continue to start clothing lines and have them made elsewhere? Oh yea because its cheaper than in the US and who cares about the US economy, obviously very few. Since most have turned their backs on their own to buy foriegn products. GRRRRR!

I think its great i like katherine she has an opinion and also isnt the usual rake thin actress ,although ill have to agree on the children tht need to be adopted in the us i dont understand why they dont just get children tht could look a lil more like theyre own , instead of the child growing up w the constant burden of knowing his parents rnt his biological ones ..i mean not tht it really matters as long as the guardians love the children but think about it growing up in the united states isnt all tht easy ..especially having high profile parents ..

They'll adopt like Angelina & Billy Bob did, then split up...Madonna & Richie..split up..Sharon Stone & her hubby..split up..Wouldn't that be great for the child? Personally I think these woman are trying to look good in others eyes. To me they are idiots. I am not saying a child doesn't need a home, but maybe you should try in your own country 1st....Are you going to say there are NO special needs children up for adoption here in the US? Do you honestly think the biological parent is going to fight for a challendged child, which is why they gave it up to begin with? I doubt it. Anyway, good luck. I hope it works out for the best. That is a hugh step to take with any child.

If you want to settle for a ghetto crack baby that has parents that can come back after you at anytime go American and good luck. Otherwise look for Asian and East European child it takes less than a year and the babys are healty with no strings.

That's great that she is adopting a special needs baby. However there are plenty of special needs children right here in the USA that need adopting. Why does it alway have to be a baby? There are so many children in Foster Care that need to be adopted out of the system and many are groups of siblings that should be kept together. My husband and I adopted three girls (all siblings) through Foster Care. Two of them have special needs, but they are all sweet, loving children that needed desperately to be taken out of a failing system. Please won't anyone consider becoming an adoptive parent to older children in Foster Care?

One more bit of info. So many of you are wrong about the parents coming back and getting the children. Especially if you adopt from Foster Care. Once a parents rights have been terminated, they have 30 days to appeal. The percentage of parents that win their appeal is so small, so once the rights are terminated that is it. They are removed from the birth certificate and the adoptive parents are put on a new one and it is a done deal.

I adopted domestically through foster care. It was about 8 months from the first state required class to when my son moved in. I had to wait 3 months before the adoption was finalized. He turned 2 the week he moved in, and although his mother was a drug addict who did not know who the father is, he is completely healthy and very smart. I was lucky though, I was presented the information of MANY children who had serious health issues (assuming as a nurse I would be able to care for them, but I really did not want to take on a complex medical child or teenager) before I accepted to meet with my son and consider him. i don't know if I would go through the whole thing again because most of the children in foster care to adopt are VERY complex medically or have behavior issues. Trying to adopt a newborn is becoming more difficult since many single mothers elect to keep the baby or abort. And, yes, an overseas adoption is permanent. No one EVER comes to take the child back, many where abandoned and parentage is unknown.

Buy American babies. We have special needs children here, too.

Gee, I missed out on all the publicity and money when I adopted a child from Korea!! What did I do wrong? Lets see...my family decided that we needed a little girl in our family and there was none available in the state we lived in and then we were moved to Korea. We decided to follow thru in Korea, found our little one and after a lot of time, home studies, money and red tape we were finally parents and brothers of a little 4 year old girl. No fan fare, could not even claim her as a tax deduction, not that that was the reason that we did adopt, for a couple of years. She is now an adult, married and has children of her own and is an American citizen...so I guess we did, as you stupidly put it, buy American.

UMMMM how do you know that this is a special needs child? Is it because she is from Korea and looks different then her new parents do? Believe me, Koreans are not special needs, they are just like you and me. I know as I adopted one myself 24 years ago.

I am sorry that your ignorance and racism is showing. I lived in Korea for several years and never met anyone or saw anyone that ate dog. You really should educate yourself..they have Wendy's, McD, Burger King, KfC and Winchells. As far as ugly goes...go look in the mirror and see what that is.

I am happy when any child gets a forever home. What a very lucky baby and Mommy and Daddy. We adopted our daughter from foster care and in response to those saying biological parents can come back they can't if you adopt from foster care. Also in CA it is free to adopt from foster care. Any adoption is special regardless of what type it is.

One commmenter said that it is expensive here in the US to adopt. I live in TX and have adopted three children. We were both over forty, I had birth children. We adopted two babies and one toddler. One child's adoption cost us $750.00, another cost us $750.00 for an intervention (just a legal term), and the last one didn't cost us anything. How? Look to Child Protective Services. Be a foster parent. Our children are happy, we are happy, we didn't spend a fortune, we didn't have to travel, it was so easy to adopt. Every single state in the US has a waiting list of children available for adoption today. Many states reimburse the adoption fees. In Texas, you just have to go to the TARE website to see children that are available immediately in Texas. If you care what the race is, then don't bother, because you don't deserve a child in the first place. If you have an open heart, look. We are white. That didn't mean we had to adopt from other races. My newborn was white, my other baby I got at 6 months was white, while the last one, my toddler, was of mixed race. We never knew exactly what, nor did we care. They are now 6, 7, & 8. I wouldn't give them up for anything, they are just as important as my birth children ever were. No difference. Look at home, it is doable.

I cannot understand for the life of me why these celebs go outside of our United States to adopt babies when there are so very many babies right here in the U.S. who desperately need good homes? Does this make them stand out more? Not to me. I think it's very unthoughtful and disgraceful.
