Nicole Richie Gives Birth to Baby Sparrow

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have added another bird to their nest, as baby boy Sparrow was born on Wednesday.

Richie wrote on her Web site: "In the middle of night, the very early hours of September 9, 2009, Sparrow James Midnight Madden was born to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden ... He weighs 7lbs 14oz. Nicole, Joel, Harlow [their 19-month-old daughter] and Sparrow are all doing well. Thank you for all of your good wishes."

Sparrow joins sister Harlow, who was born in January of 2008.

Following Harlow's birth, Richie, 27, said that her new baby "gives life a whole new meaning and a whole new purpose."

Rocker Madden, 31, agreed with Richie's sentiments, telling PEOPLE that "having a baby is the most exciting thing that's ever happened to me, and to us."

Sparrow James Midnight????? Seriously? They couldn't come up with a more ridiculous name than that? People are out of control with these kid names. Remember...these poor kids will have to grow up and live a life using these names. That's so selfish to name your child something god aweful like that. Poor little guy!

Well, I do agree that to the common person, its a absurd name. But, he's their son. He is, more than likely, going to be a multi-millionaire only because of his parents. If I were born to parents that rich, they could name me whatever the hell they wanted. He is going to be rich regardless of his name, so why not give him a name so that he will be the ONLY person in someone's cell contact list named Sparrow James Midnight.

If they were poor and unknown, then yes, he would be most likely ridiculed for such a silly name. But, he is going to grow up in the world of people who are rich and famous for doing exactly nothing and be on the cover of every magazine for the rest of his non-relevant life. His name will be the most unique thing about him.

Teasing as a child is not the end of the world. My last name is Piggs. Imagine going through elementary school with that. But it didn't kill me. Now I kinda like it. It's unique.

It is cruel to give a child such a name. I'd love to know how these people would feel having to grow up with ridiculous names. Studies have proven that people with solid traditional names are more successful in life than people with off the wall names.
