Nicole Richie Gives Birth to Baby Sparrow

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have added another bird to their nest, as baby boy Sparrow was born on Wednesday.

Richie wrote on her Web site: "In the middle of night, the very early hours of September 9, 2009, Sparrow James Midnight Madden was born to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden ... He weighs 7lbs 14oz. Nicole, Joel, Harlow [their 19-month-old daughter] and Sparrow are all doing well. Thank you for all of your good wishes."

Sparrow joins sister Harlow, who was born in January of 2008.

Following Harlow's birth, Richie, 27, said that her new baby "gives life a whole new meaning and a whole new purpose."

Rocker Madden, 31, agreed with Richie's sentiments, telling PEOPLE that "having a baby is the most exciting thing that's ever happened to me, and to us."

My mom told me about a kid that was in the school she worked at, named Atheist! Anyway, I "like" the name Sparrow, but I thought they had a baby girl at first until I read more. There are much worse names out there. These kids will be fine will strange names if they are all going to "Hollywood High"... they'll all be together.

Glad mother and child are fine. That's what really matters in the long run. And I know people can name their own kids whatever they want, but Sparrow? For a boy? Unique names all fine and dandy, but "sparrow" seems to me a name more fitting for a girl than a boy. For the sake of teasing and all, when the boy is older, and possibly comes to dar ol' mom and dad and wants to go by his middle name (james) i hope they don't prevent him from doing so.

Forget the "given names", what I want to know is why these celebrities do not get married so their kids can have a LEGITIMATE family name. If Nicole wasn't rich and a celeb, she would be frowned upon for having children outside of marriage instead of being celebrated!!!
