John Stossel and 'Stache Leaving '20/20'

Longtime '20/20' sleuth John Stossel is leaving ABC after a 28-year run on the Friday night news magazine. He'll be moving over to Fox Business Network for his own weekly one-hour program starting in October, he announced on Tuesday.

Stossel, who joined '20/20' in 1981 and upgraded to co-anchor in 2003, will also make regular appearances on Fox News Channel. An opening in his ABC contract allowed him to jump ship for Fox, where he is expected to sign a multi-year deal. He won't be an unfamiliar face to the Fox faithful. The outspoken Libertarian has been a frequent guest on 'The O'Reilly Factor' and 'The Big Story.'

"I'm grateful to ABC News for allowing me to do stories that challenged conventional wisdom, and occasionally enraged many of its viewers. But it's said that everyone should change jobs every 7 years. I've been at ABC for 28 years ..."

He defended the move by saying "Fox offers me more airtime" to do the kinds of stories he's interested in.

On '20/20,' Stossel is known for his hour-long specials and for taking a skeptical and in-depth view of meaty subjects like censorship and big government. He always prefaced the segments with a grumpy "Give Me a Break."

TV Newser was first to report the story.

The mustachioed journo, 62, is just the latest ABC anchor to vacate his chair. Last week, Charlie Gibson announced he was retiring from 'World News,' prompting 'Good Morning America' host Diane Sawyer to switch over to the primetime newscast.

John Stossel can be good but he has a tendency to be superficial in his analysis. I've caught him several times in half truths and poor logic. He appeals to those that would like Sarah Palin, people who take what is said at face value without a critical thought or an in depth thought. It is no wonder that these are the same people that like Glen Beck. His arguments can be picked apart by a knowledgeable 12th grader.

I am surprised that John would find a fit at Fox. He has the reputation of taking on questionable tactics from major companies and bringing forth the truth. The Fox network on the other hand supports wackjobs like Glen Beck who doesnt know the word truth in his vocabulary. I wish John the best and hope he can make a impact on honest reporting at this station

I completely disagree with you. I think he will find a good fit on Fox BECAUSE he does look for the truth. Glenn Beck is one of my favorites for that very same reason. I'd love to see the FACTS you have for calling Glenn Beck a liar...so far everyone who has opposed Beck has only offered opinions.

I agree with you about the wackjobs at Fox News. When I heard that he hosted a fake town hall meeting I knew it was just a matter of time before he departed real news. But I thought he'd be fired.

You are completely wrong about Glenn Beck. What has he ever said that is a lie? Where are your facts? Van Jones condemned himself with his own words that Glenn showed in videos on his show. He checks all his facts and maybe you should do the same. Where is your proof about Glenn.
