Tierney Drops Show to Treat Cancer

With her career in full swing and roles in multiple shows, 44-year-old 'ER' veteran Maura Tierney is dropping everything to undergo further treatment for breast cancer.

Tierney announced on Thursday that she was dropping out of NBC's new series 'Parenthood' in order to treat the disease, of which she claims her doctors are optimistic about the outcome.

Tierney also had a major role on the most recent season of FX's 'Rescue Me.'

Tierney's spokesperson released the following statement: "Maura Tierney regrets that she will not be able to continue her role on 'Parenthood' due to a conflict with the production schedule of the show and her breast cancer treatments. Ms. Tierney and her doctors remain confident that the outcome of her treatments will be positive. She is deeply disappointed that she will not be able to rejoin such a highly respected, talented, fun and funny group of actors and wishes to thank Jason Katims and NBC for their patience and support."

Tierney had filmed the pilot episode for the series, which was scheduled to premiere this month. But she was sidelined in July, after a tumor was found in her breast, requiring surgery. Production never resumed.

Another new series, the medical drama "Mercy," will premiere this fall instead.

"Parenthood," based on the 1989 movie that starred Steve Martin, is now set to debut midseason.

Tierney's role – that of a financially strapped single mother who returns home to her parents – is expected to be recast.

NBC expressed sadness at Tierney leaving the series, but added, "our main concern is for her quick and full recovery."

Tierney was a longrunning cast member of the NBC drama "ER."

My husband and I enjoyed you very much on ER. I thought he was going to stop watching after you left. I tease him about the crush he has on you. Then we have caught you this summer in Rescue Me where you have been fabulous. I am a breast cancer survivor and what I will tell you is what someone told me the day I was diagnosed. You now will need to live one day at a time one hour at a time one moment at a time depending on what you are going through. Everyone is different so you will find the way that is best for you. It is strange how because we see you on tv we think we know some part of you. So be brave and strong when you can and weak and take the love of your friends and family when you need to too. It is a long journey but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. God Bless you!

God bless you and keep his healing hands on you always! God is good! Only he knows why we are in the fight for our lives against this horrible disease. Trust in him and you will healed. I was diagnosed Oct. 08, with 3 tumors in one breast and in 2 lymph nodes. No one in my family on either side has ever had cancer of any kind. So I also unfortunately know what it's like to be blindsided by this. Please keep a positive outlook and just know that you will beat it and be a stronger woman.
