No Charges for Merriman in Tequila Case

The San Diego Distric Attorney will not press charges against Chargers player Shawne Merriman, after his ex-girlfriend Tila Tequila accused him of beating her up in his home, TMZ reports.

"After a thorough review of the investigation into the Sept. 6, 2009 incident at the Poway home of Shawne Merriman, our office has determined there is insufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that any crime was committed. The case is now closed," a statement from the D.A. read.

The General Manager of the San Diego Chargers responded to the news. "It's really good news for Shawne. We're happy things worked out for him on the legal front."

However, Internet star Tequila is not as thrilled.

"Tila Tequila is the victim of a violent crime. The San Diego District attorney's decision not to press charges against Shawne Merriman for the battering of Tila Tequila demonstrates an unconscionable negligence in the discharging of their public duties. We strongly feel that justice has not been served in this matter," a rep for Tila told TMZ.

Regardless of Tila Tiquila's reality shows and sleazy image, it's pretty obvious that something happened that night. Merriman's excuse is that she was drunk and he had to restrain her. He is at least 200 lbs, if not more, and well over 6 feet. She is less than 100 lbs, and not even 5 feet. I don't think that he really needed to use much force, especially if she was so much smaller than him.

So yes, I believe that he hurt her. Maybe they were both drunk, maybe he didn't mean to use so much force, and maybe he was trying to do the "right" thing. But hurting another person, a woman, someone much smaller than you, is never acceptable. No matter what happened, I suppose they'll both be better off without eachother.

I wonder if you'd feel that way if she would've hit or possibly killed someone while driving drunk. Then he'd be prosecuted for letting her drive drunk.

Whatever happened, she's clearly no victim.

Keena, no man should hurt a woman. What he should've done was taken her keys away and, if necessary, called the cops. Hurting her, especially leaving bruises, is unacceptable.

Regardless of whatever warped idea you think, she is still a human. Having a less than presentable history should not undermine that.
