VMAs Preview: What's In Store For 2009

Every year MTV has a special way of topping the previous year's VMAs with new moments going down in pop culture history. Whether Britney Spears is caught kissing Madonna or a Rage Against The Machine bassist decides it's a good idea to climb the set fixtures, we're sure this year will have plenty of surprises. After the jump, check out what we think will be the most talked about moments during the 2009 VMAs, and be sure to tune into the show (Sept. 13 @9pm EST) and PopEater.com for full live coverage.

- With Lady Gaga and Beyonce both nominated for nine awards each, this will be an epic battle between the fashionable divas. Although Lady Gaga is rumored to have the upper hand, we think Beyonce's 'Single Ladies' will rock the house vote. Plus, these two ladies will both be performing, so we're hoping to see spectacular stage productions. (Get the full story.)

- Janet Jackson's tribute to her brother Michael Jackson is sure to be a massive celebration of the late King of Pop's life. Little information was given as to what exactly Janet's tribute will entail though. (Get the story.) Michael himself had several memorable VMA moments, including scoring a trophy in 1984 for 'Thriller' and 10 years later famously kissing wife Lisa Marie Presley on stage.

- This year, MTV will debut the movie trailers for the eagerly anticipated Michael Jackson documentary, 'This Is It,' and the extended trailer from the second installment of the 'Twilight' vampire franchise, 'New Moon.'

- British comedian Russell Brand will be making an encore appearance as MC. Last year his jokes about the Jonas Brothers' virginity caused controversy for weeks. We cannot wait to see who his target will be this year.

- Alicia Keys will join Jay-Z onstage for a live performance of 'Empire State of Mind' off his 'The Blueprint 3' album. The combination will surely rock the house. Here's a preview of the song:

- The red carpet fashion and entrances are sometimes just as exciting as the award show itself. We're hoping someone tops last year's rides, which included T-Pain arriving on an elephant.

- Every year Britney Spears outdoes herself. While we aren't expecting her to kiss Madonna or dance around with a snake on her shoulders, we're hoping she gives us something to chat about the next day. We'll have to wait and see -- but in the meantime, take a look back at her best moments from year's past.

I watch the vma's every year. However this year I will skip them. Paying tribute to a pedophile is just so sick. What's next...a tribute to John Wayne Gacy?

If you do your research you a s s hole you would know that michael jackson was not a peodophile and there is much evidence to back up this statement. he was a good person and a talent that is incomparable so he deserves all the tributes and honor he gets. and you should watch the vma's maybe you'll learn something. michael made a great name for himself and what did you do? what is your name?-oh wait no one cares!!!!! i feel bad that you guys have been brainwashed by the media. michael was an amazing person. he gave so much to charity and helped so many sick families. his music means alot to millions of people of every race gender and age.

i'm glas he being honored i mean seriously he made mtv what is was when it used to play music...if u remember.

the vma's have sucked since 2004 but i will tune into to see what they have in store this year.

You are the most distgusting, rediculous, and stupidest thing i have ever heard of!!! why be so mean towards michael you don't know him and he has never done you anything!! mike said that the only way to really jugde someone is to sit down and get to know them through conversation!!! did you ever do that? i guess not mike would never surround himself by such negative and hateful people!!! well i met him and he was so nice funny and completely sweet!!! i got to see him be himself and it was great!! he was the total opposite of what the haters say about him!! it's not nice to talk bad about someone when they're alive much less when they're dead and the family, friends, and fans are still grieving!!!! i think it would be best if everyone would let him rest in peace and let all their bad opinoins of him die with him bc it really doesn't matter now he's gone and now it's over!!!!!

why isn't muse on the poll? i'm only watching the vmas cause of muse playing. muse should be shown a bit more respect seeing that their is so much talent between those 3 guys and that they play STADIUMS AND ARENAS WORLDWIDE! this band sold out wembly stadium 2 nights in a row. and it's a 100,000 seat concert venue. is that not enough for aol's popeater?

Y do they even still have a VMA anymore? MTV. Music TeleVision. I haven't seen or heard a music video on MTV 4 years. They forgot who and what they were. All u ever c anymore is some stupid reality tv crap or some lame show that has NOTHING 2 do with music. When they remember what made them and actually start playing music videos again, I MIGHT actually care about that station again.

What about Green Day? They're the only reason I'm watching because everything else on the awards is crap. They won a ton of VMAs back in 2005 and hopefully they'll win in the 3 categories that they're nominated. They've got more talent and they've worked harder to get where they are. Without Green Day, a lot of bands would not be here today.

I won't watch this year because of russell Brand. He RUINED the VMA's last year and I'm actually shocked that he is hosting again this year. He was such a horrible host!!!
