Janet, Madonna Pay Tribute to Michael

The MTV VMAs had a somber start with the Queen of Pop, Madonna giving a monologue tribute to the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson. She spoke about Jackson's lost childhood and also how much his career impacted the music industry, "He is one of the greatest talents the world has ever known.. Michael Jackson was a hero," she said. "All I could think about in that moment was I had abandoned him. That we had abandoned him. That we had let this magnificent creature who had once set the world on fire slip through the cracks. Most of us had turned our backs on him. ... There will never be anyone like him again. He was a king, but he was also a human being. Sometimes we have to lose things before we appreciate them... Long live the king," Madonna added.

The musical tribute began afterward, as Jackson clones dressed in some of his signature outfits recreated his famous dance moves from videos like 'Bad,' ''Smooth Criminal' and 'Thriller.'

Then, as "Scream," his duet with Janet Jackson, appeared on a large screen, his sister came out to recreate the moves from their only video together as the crowd, including Beyonce, cheered her on. Afterward, she looked heavenward, and bowed.

How can Madonna say the "we" turn our backs on him..........when his pockets were still being filled by his fans buying his music........She such a drama queen.....she's another has been. Take a bow Madonna and go adopt more out of this country children instead of the homeless children here in this country!

No people did turn there backs on him. When he was going through that bs back in the early nineties and several years back ppl were so quick to call him guilty instead of standing in his corner. Yes, his 'real' fans continued to buy his music and support him, but when he really needed ppl, they weren't there. At least she can admit it!!! It's time the rest of the world do the same!

i think madonna was right in what she said. a lot of people did abandon him. instead of people criticizing him along with the media we should have been backing him up and supporting him instead. and it is ashame to realize how special a person is when you lose them. the fans have nothing to do with abandoning him or how much "money was filling his pockets". the fans loved him unconditionally...i know this because i myself am a fan of michael's. maybe you should think of things like that when someone you admire has been ridiculed or had his name drugged through the mud hundreds of times over. lets see how you feel then.

I saw the tribute and was deeply touched. Madonna hit it right on the head with her comments and Janet was amazing as usual. I like the way they had the video playing behind her and her image was removed and replaced with her performance on the stage. Very good, MTV!!!

Madonna gave a very moving tribute, Janet looked beautiful and performed so classy I bet Michael was looking down with a smile.

Everything was fabulous till that loser, Kanye West, showed up on stage and made a fool of himself because he didn't like the fact that Taylor Swift won best female video over Beyonce.

I will never buy a Kanye CD, ringtone, download again. His record label should drop his sorry, classless ass. What he did disrespected the show and disrespected the night for Michael's memory. Taylor Swift deserved her award. She has brought people to music that never would cross over rock, top 40 and country genres. Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose. Kanye, you are always and forever a loser now.

As I watch the awards, it does my heart good to hear the "boo"s whenever Kanye's name is mentioned. It shows that the music community in general does not advocate such ignorant behavior. That jerk needs to be brought down a few notches.

Yeah they should have escorted Kanye off the stage and out the building. Everybody's entitled to their opinion, but that was rude and uncalled for. Poor Taylor. Her first VMA was ruined by some freakin idiot who thinks his opinions matters.

MTV should be ashamed of itself for letting that a-hole Russell Brand host again. He is as crude as they come and he should go back where he came from.
The audacity to use the award show for political commentary and he doesn't even belong in this country.
That's it for me and MTV. They can take their channel, Russell Brand and Kanye West and put 'em where the sun don't shine. A disgraceful display on all counts if I ever saw one.

Russell takes every single joke too far. Consistently inappropriate and yet, MTV must think that's cool, as they've asked him to host again. Half the program is being bleeped out - keep the crap out, and you don't have to bleep anything. And, I have to agree - he can keep his political views to himself.
