The MTV VMAs had a somber start with the Queen of Pop, Madonna giving a monologue tribute to the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson. She spoke about Jackson's lost childhood and also how much his career impacted the music industry, "He is one of the greatest talents the world has ever known.. Michael Jackson was a hero," she said. See what else happened >> "All I could think about in that moment was I had abandoned him. That we had abandoned him. That we had let this magnificent creature who had once set the world on fire slip through the cracks. Most of us had turned our backs on him. ... There will never be anyone like him again. He was a king, but he was also a human being. Sometimes we have to lose things before we appreciate them... Long live the king," Madonna added.
The musical tribute began afterward, as Jackson clones dressed in some of his signature outfits recreated his famous dance moves from videos like 'Bad,' ''Smooth Criminal' and 'Thriller.'
Then, as "Scream," his duet with Janet Jackson, appeared on a large screen, his sister came out to recreate the moves from their only video together as the crowd, including Beyonce, cheered her on. Afterward, she looked heavenward, and bowed.

I completely agree on all counts. When they showed that Russell was once again hosting, I left the room. Unfortunately I was listening to Taylor's acceptance speech when idiot Kanye had to put his 2 cents in. Who cares what he thinks? He should be fined like Serena and booted out and not allowed to any awards show. He's gone off the edge one too many times and someone - his manager, label, etc - needs to take responsibility for him. I don't see him climbing any charts fast except for those to the dumpster.
I just saw the Michael Jackson tribute on You Tube and it was wonderful. Janet was excellent as always. Rest in peace, Michael. We love you!

MICHAEL JACKSON IS MORE THAN A HERO!!! He was a saint and the closest thing to GOD besides JESUS CHRIST... HE is the only artist in history to have given the most to charity and done countless things for children and to make this world a BETTER place. (he sure left it a better place than how he found it) he has never been convicted of child molestation and he has never hurt a child. please do your research and stop say these media nonsense. MICHAEL JACKSON is KING!!! Madonna said it and the history books will say it too. LONG LIVE SAINT KING MICHAEL Joesph JACKSON... we all miss u dearly and you will forever live in our hearts even in people hearts like KatieCouric sNemesis who is uneducated and don't know any better about you

It was touching listening to Madonna and others praising MJ at the VMA show. I could hardly finish watching it because I became overcome with emotion. I wanted to vomit! Where were all these "good" friends and family members when Michael was swallowing a drug store full of narcotics, benzo's, uppers, and downers everyday for YEARS to function? No I'm sorry but this time I'm not buying the BS. MJ was a deeply troubled man stricken with a mental illness and the disease of addiction. For all those years he was crying out for help, but none of his "friends" or family wanted to listen. Well, can they hear him now? I don't know who I'm more sorry for, or more disgusted with, him or his "friends". If people are only good because they fear punishment or seek some earthly reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed.

Yes, Madonna is right. Many in this society judged and abandoned Michael, without valuing the ESSENCE of who he was. What a mistake. And he still try hard to keep going, raised three beautiful kids and tried, tried. And more than one is realizing now that we lost a real artist. May we all learn to value artists and to be human, not judgmental.

I appreciated some of what Madonna said, but it was more about her than it should have been. "Michael was born in 1958; I was born in 1958..." etc., trying to draw all these parallels. I half thought she was going to spout out, "I AM Michael Jackson!" Typical Madonna, all about her. Couldn't they have picked someone else?
Janet was great.

You missed the point, Jltsu. Madonna was not trying to make it about her. She was trying to say that with what they had in common she had it much easier in life than MJ did. That he had a much deeper struggle with things in life than she had. That with all they shared in common she at least had a childhood which he missed out on.
We all have our opinions on MJ some think he was a king others think he was a god-like man. Some think he was a child molester or a freak. But no matter what we all think he was a talented artist. He gave a lot to the world not just in music but also in Charity. One thing non of us can deny, whether you like it or not, he has some how touched us in one way or the other. Everyone in the World knows his name. We have all heard his songs, even if the song was performed by another artist. If we are old enough and had the pleasure of being in Disneyland /world in the early 80's stood in line to see Captan EO. Everyone knows the Famous Moonwalk and some of us even tried to do it. He made music by black artist more mainstream. He changed the face of MTV forever. There will never ever be an Artist again to come close to even selling Albums/CD's worldwide again. He is the one and only.
And anyone who even took the time to write something negative here has to be somewhat interested in MJ or they would not even had bothered to take the time to write. So, like it or not, MJ has also touched all you negative people.
RIP MJ.
And, BTW, Jltsu, the reason Madonna came to make the speech was not because she was asked but because she wanted to say something. No one makes Madonna do anything she doesn't want to do. EVERYONE knows that.
Personally I think she is the BEST person to do this. Only Madonna can be compared in the same league as MJ. Even some say she surpassed him in some ways. But no matter, they were both BIG stars in the 80's. They both touched the world and are a name that anyone in the world knows and knows their music.
She was perfect for the pick.
OHHHHHHHHHHH GOODY!!!!!!!!!! DOUBLE SKANKS DO A TRIBUTE! HAHAHA...HA HA!!!!!!!!!

I watched the MTV tribute to Michael Jackson and could not believe how bad it was. Poor Taylor didn't know what to do when Kayne came on stage. It was sopose to be about Michael and sharing the love. I will never watch an MTV award show again.
Thanks Kayne for runing Michael and Taylors moment.
