In the first half ot the VMA's night of performances, Lady Gaga took over the stage just like she'd been promising. She began her performance lying in the middle of the floor of an aristocratic and extravagant set, surrounded by dancers scantily clad in white. Slowly, and almost operatically, Gaga launched into a powerful arrangement of 'Poker Face,' and transitioned into her hit, 'Paparazzi.' Watch after the jump. Not unlike Madonna and her infamous 'Like a Virgin' VMA show from two and a half decades ago, Gaga sang, danced and passionately flung herself about the stage. Channeling her cabaret and theater background, Gaga effectively used the same 'death by love' concept from the 'Paparazzi' video in the performance.
Showing off real vocal skill and putting on quite the graphic spectacle, the act culminated in Gaga hanging from the ceiling and smeared in fake blood. Now that's theatrics.
Gaga's had been hyped up by blogger Perez Hilton, who had described her performance as "next-level." Gaga herself had said, " I can't wait to go to the awards show and hopefully kick some ass."

Lady Gaga is a no talent who uses theatrics to cover it up.

Everyone was anxious about this performance, at least her fans, because they wanted to see what crazy outfit or stunt she would pull next, you read up anywhere, that is what they are interested in. They weren't waiting to hear a live performance. That should show you what kind of ENTERTAINER she is. Sure, she isn't that bad of a singer, but she isn't anything special.
And if Perez Hilton wasn't famous, she wouldn't be famous. You can figure it out from there.

Looks like a deleted scene from that old cult film Rocky Horror, only I've seen better looking transvestite street walkers than her. Truly pop has hit a new low.

I didn't like Lady Gaga before, but it was because I thought she was over-rated, But she proved to me how wrong I was.. She has a great voice and preforms well. It's not easy to sing while dancing and she did a really good job. This was a great performance and those who don't like it either are really conservative, closed minded or are jus jealous of her great body and ability to be a very good performer.

That's not true. She writes all her own music and she CAN sing. She just isn't the best PERFORMER. Her songs are way better on the radio than sung in person... but at least she doesn't lip synch.

Lady Gaga is a signature act, which no artist has been able to capture in the last ten years. She doesn't do it for money but for the passion of being on stage. If you had a talent you would understand

Some of you people are just so stupid. Lady GaGa has an amazing voice, She keeps on key, add soft and bold parts, can hold her notes, unlike some of the other live performances there. She has true talent, he outfits maybe what attract people but her music keeps them staying. she way not be the most beautiful girl in the world compared to some singers but she is a singer, not a face with a edited voice

A better voice than Madonna or Cher but she's (?) a sloppy third at best. Cher began the show, Madonna bumped it up a notch and now....yeah well, Gaga just leaves me feeling... blah blah...
Keep tryin though ~ Never give up hope!

I think Lady Gaga makes a valid point with her performance. If one listens to the song, it's about how the paparazzi is so obsessive and will stop at nothing to get their pictures or to interact with celebrities. Her theatrics, no doubt, were meant to bring attention to that fact. Sure the blood is shocking, and it's meant to be; to get one's attention. The paparazzi will stop at nothing and could kill someone trying to get that "perfect picture". I don't think her voice is that bad either. Kudos to her for not lip-syncing!

Well I certainly was aghast and aggravated by her act last nite and do not find her style to be high quality in the least, tho Poker Face is a catchy tune. But the sad thing is that she actually does have a great voice, too bad that like so many others who are going for commercial success and shock value and upping the ante, so to speak, her voice is not the focus of the act. Theatrics gone too far imo; hope there were no little ones watching. Madonna's theatrics were sexual in nature, which is far far less offensive than graphic violence.
