Exclusive: Drunk Kanye Was the Only 'Loser' at VMAs, Perez Says

Perez Hilton has made a living off of saying what he thinks about celebrities and their sometimes less-than-smart behavior. So, who better to ask about Kanye West's infamous VMA outburst? PopEater was able to catch up with the self-proclaimed "queen of all media" about the MTV awards show and Kanye's booze-fueled blunder. What he said after the jump!

So what did you think of the VMAs as a whole?
There wasn't any of it that was bad, which is a good thing. Everyone was consistently good and there were some performances that were exceptional. Pink, Beyonce and Lady Gaga were all amazing. (Watch all of the performances here!)

What was your initial reaction when it all went down with Kanye?
Well, when it first went down, I thought it was planned and some kind of joke. But, we very soon found out that it was all too real. I was kind of in shock because it was so unexpected. Kanye wasn't even nominated in that category, and I'm sure Beyonce wasn't happy that he went up and did that. He was very drunk when he did it, but that still doesn't excuse his behavior. I remember reading in interviews him saying he didn't used to drink, and now he's drinking a lot and when someone does things like that its usually out of desperation. Lil Mama did it at the end when she jocked Jay-Z's stage time, but Kanye doesn't have to be desperate. He's incredibly talented and successful.

Pink brought up an interesting point that it's so lame that he did that to Taylor Swift, who's like the nicest girl out there. She deserved it, it was voted by the fans. Taylor swift is the biggest selling artist of the year.

Do you think the outrage would have been the same if it were Britney or Katy Perry that he interrupted?
It was also that Taylor was there and she was speaking and she didn't even get a chance to finish her speech. It was that last moment when you're looking at her, and she looked so heartbroken. Awards are silly, performing is the real award, but she looked so sad about it all.

Were you surprised how quickly the entire crowd turned on him?
I was. This time last year, Twitter wasn't as popular, so this year every celebrity took to their Twitters and wrote some not so nice things about Kanye. It was kind of amazing.

He obviously handled it the wrong way, but do you think he was right that Beyonce should have won?
To me, the awards are meaningless, but the real award is in performing. The thing about the VMAs is that everybody is a winner ... Taylor won, Britney won, Gaga won... there weren't any real losers except for Kanye.

Can Kanye come back from this?
He'll get over this because he's so talented. If he wasn't so talented, all of these outbursts. -- he's had it at every awards show! He had it at the Grammy awards two years ago, at the MTV Europe awards two years ago. This is just what he does and he overcomes it every time because he makes amazing music, but if he doesn't come back with a great album after this, then I'd be concerned.

Should he still be invited to awards shows?
He'll be invited because at the end of the day people love this. Everyone's talking about it, and that's what they want.

What Kanye said was true Bush does not like Blacks or Hispanics. Just read the No Child Act genious and you will see for yourself who suffers most. He was wrong for what he did not what he said it is a difference. Why don't you and everone else just grow up and move on. It does not hurt you in anyway so get over it.

WHAT?! How dare he do this to Beyonce? How about Taylor Swift. She's so sweet and innocent and talented and was so grateful and couldn't even get the credit she deserved. Beyonce has been winning every award for years. Isn't it time we had some fresh new faces? Beyonce is extremely talented, but Taylor manages to be talented and not sell it with sex. Beyonce's video wasn't even that cool. She shook her a$$ and thighs through the whole thing. Wow. I've never seen that done before. Beyonce has deserved a lot of awards for her videos, not that one though. Shame on Kayne for intimating that young girl.

I guess Kanye thought that Beyonce needed a real man to defend her and that her HUSBAND Jay Z wasn't man enough to speak up for Beyonce.

Kayne was drunk.....LMAO!!!! Then that's the excuse he will use for the next time he does that. And there will be a next time given his history of outbursts. He is a disgrace to Black people and he is a disgrace to the music industry. Let's all face it...his talent isn't enough to sell his albums/music and so he does this just to get attention. He can change his behavior simply by doing one thing, the right thing - GROW UP! Grow up, become a man, improve his talent and then maybe he will be a better person. Not a attention freak the whines when he doesn' win awards.Until he grows up, he should be banned from the music industry.

I do have to admit, when I heard the nominees I thought the winner should of been lady gaga or beyonce, so when they said Taylor Swift, I said WTF?!? I didn't think that video was best female material, oh well. In the end I agreed that she shouldn't have won, but Kanye shouldn't have done that to her. Fans choose the winners, so if that's who the majority of fans wanted to win, then that's that.

I'm sorry i beg to differ and we all have a right to our opinions. Don't get me wrong i am a fan of Beyonce, but she has had her time to shine. Why shouldn't this up and coming star get a moment. I mean aren't u tired of seeing Beyonce and the same dances in every video. Yes at one point her videos had meaning but now its just her and her a** shaking all over the place.

Taylor Swift annoys me, that's my opinion. Obviously she has a lot of fans, who voted for her to win, therefore she deserved to have a "moment to shine." I didn't vote for her, cause I don't like her, I was simply agreeing with Kanye in the fact that I, too, was surprised to see her win. But, yes, she deserved to win and deserved her time. I just wished she didn't win, cause if she didn't win, I wouldn't be annoyed today w/nothing but Oh poor taylor, and Ahole kanye. It wasn't a BIG deal, but it's one of the major moments of the VMA? It shouldn't be, there were FAR more impressive moments w/the performances that people should be talking about today.

The truly sad thing about all of this is that this is an experience that Taylor will never be able to have again. And it was totally destroyed. Drunkedness is no excuse. If someone is drunk is it then a valid excuse to kill someone? Kanye, get with reality. You are not King. There are many other entertainers who are equally talented, and those that are even more talented than you. Sure as Perez claims he puts out good music. But that is not to say that someone else couldnt do equally well. Still not an excuse. It is what it is, and as many have said he is a disgrace not only to the Black Race, but to the entertainment community.

Wow... Most of you are forgetting that the VMA's are voted on by the fans... Taylor Swift DID deserve to win over Beyonce AND Lady Gaga... Like it or not! The fact is that when Beyonce was 18 years old she won several awards with Destinys Child (that were NOT voted on by the public)against other seasoned older superstars who had access to more video producers and $$ and nobody had a problem with that!... am I saying Taylor is more talented? No certinly... am I saying Taylor Swift deserved her award? yes definately! Kanye West is a huge jerk and may his career rest in peace... This is not the first time he has done this... just the first time he was speaking out for someone else instead of saying HE should have won... piece of.. well you know... every human being knows that now...
