Exclusive: Drunk Kanye Was the Only 'Loser' at VMAs, Perez Says

Perez Hilton has made a living off of saying what he thinks about celebrities and their sometimes less-than-smart behavior. So, who better to ask about Kanye West's infamous VMA outburst? PopEater was able to catch up with the self-proclaimed "queen of all media" about the MTV awards show and Kanye's booze-fueled blunder. What he said after the jump!

So what did you think of the VMAs as a whole?
There wasn't any of it that was bad, which is a good thing. Everyone was consistently good and there were some performances that were exceptional. Pink, Beyonce and Lady Gaga were all amazing. (Watch all of the performances here!)

What was your initial reaction when it all went down with Kanye?
Well, when it first went down, I thought it was planned and some kind of joke. But, we very soon found out that it was all too real. I was kind of in shock because it was so unexpected. Kanye wasn't even nominated in that category, and I'm sure Beyonce wasn't happy that he went up and did that. He was very drunk when he did it, but that still doesn't excuse his behavior. I remember reading in interviews him saying he didn't used to drink, and now he's drinking a lot and when someone does things like that its usually out of desperation. Lil Mama did it at the end when she jocked Jay-Z's stage time, but Kanye doesn't have to be desperate. He's incredibly talented and successful.

Pink brought up an interesting point that it's so lame that he did that to Taylor Swift, who's like the nicest girl out there. She deserved it, it was voted by the fans. Taylor swift is the biggest selling artist of the year.

Do you think the outrage would have been the same if it were Britney or Katy Perry that he interrupted?
It was also that Taylor was there and she was speaking and she didn't even get a chance to finish her speech. It was that last moment when you're looking at her, and she looked so heartbroken. Awards are silly, performing is the real award, but she looked so sad about it all.

Were you surprised how quickly the entire crowd turned on him?
I was. This time last year, Twitter wasn't as popular, so this year every celebrity took to their Twitters and wrote some not so nice things about Kanye. It was kind of amazing.

He obviously handled it the wrong way, but do you think he was right that Beyonce should have won?
To me, the awards are meaningless, but the real award is in performing. The thing about the VMAs is that everybody is a winner ... Taylor won, Britney won, Gaga won... there weren't any real losers except for Kanye.

Can Kanye come back from this?
He'll get over this because he's so talented. If he wasn't so talented, all of these outbursts. -- he's had it at every awards show! He had it at the Grammy awards two years ago, at the MTV Europe awards two years ago. This is just what he does and he overcomes it every time because he makes amazing music, but if he doesn't come back with a great album after this, then I'd be concerned.

Should he still be invited to awards shows?
He'll be invited because at the end of the day people love this. Everyone's talking about it, and that's what they want.

What about Muse???? Their first performance ever in the U.S. and they sounded awesome. They were the highlight of the VMAs to me (although I do feel awful for both Taylor and Beyonce for being put into that uncomfortable situation).

This has nothing to do with anyone's "rights" This is about a Drunk ass grown man who showed complete disrespect for another human being AND made an ass out himself on top of it.

Just because you have the "right" to do something doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.

I am not a Kanye West fan--never have been but is was all about his type of music that I can't appreciate. Now, it's about the man---drunk or not, he's showed his true colors and character. My dislike of him has nothing to do with my opinion of what he did last night though--it could have been someone whose talent and music I really love but if they showed this side of themselves, while I would probably still like the talent, I would not think very much of them as a person. Just because we like someone's talent or the work that they do, doesn't mean they are a good person and we as a society need to be able to better separate the two!

I saw Kanye West few weeks ago with his lower class girlfriend in Soho, NYC. I think he's an arrogant individual. His money and fame will never give him CLASS or INTELLIGENCE!!! Who's a n***** will always be a n*****!!! He has to be reminder where he came from!!

I remember way back when (yes, I am that old) blacks were complaining about MTV not playing rap videos and MTV was forced to start playing them. Pretty soon that seemed to be all they played and my friends and I quit watching so I have no idea whose video was best. What I do know is that the people who vote, voted for Taylor Swift and for Kanye West to get up on that stage and take the microphone from her and say in effect that she shouldn't have won, was beyond rude to the point it was cruel. He blames his behavior on being drunk, then adds insult to injury not by "apologizing" to Ms. Swift face-to-face, but rather on his blog, which is quickly removed, and even that apology was backhanded. This time of being disrespectful to people needs to stop now and that includes entertainers, athletes and politicians, anyone in the public eye, and it needs to start with the people with the most influence: parents, teachers, entertainers and politicians.

Mr. West is an immature, mean-spirited, egomaniac with a big chip on his shoulder. He's an angry racist who needs to find someone wise to counsel him before he completely ruins his career. He's apparently too young and shortsighted to realize that, in the music business, you can be here today and gone tomorrow. An a__hole can remain famous for a little while, but sooner or later, the people figure out who you really are. This young man needs to find some humility and some grace or he's going to lose everything.

after going to bonnaroo last year and seeing the way he acted, i lost all respect for this loser. this doesn't surprise me. whoever is producing his music needs to drop him. he's a has-been before he began. no one is gonna miss hearing his name, or care about the new album from....do i see bankruptcy in the future kanye???
