Michelle Williams finds it hard to talk about Heath Ledger -- her former fiance with whom she has a daughter named Mathilda -- who tragically died early last year. "I didn't know what my boundaries were for a long time, which made interviews feel very unsafe. I can talk about grief, because that's mine; about single parenting; about trying to balance work and kids. But what I don't have to talk about is what happened between Heath and me in our relationship," she tells Vogue in the October issue. More InsideMichelle: Discussing Heath Felt 'Unsafe'

Michelle in Vogue
"Brokeback Mountain' was an unrepeatable moment in time, a very charmed time in my life. I was in love; I was in a movie I was proud to be a part of, and with a beautiful brand-new baby. Everything was good in that moment," Michelle Williams says in an interview with Vogue where she talks candidly about coping with her ex-fiance Heath Ledger's death.

Coping after Ledger's untimely death: "I was holding it together by a string and a paper clip in the fall and winter. I didn't know if I could keep it all together... You console yourself by saying it's all a deepening process. But it's wired. After the first year, the pain is less intense; it's less immediate. But the magical thinking goes away too. And that's a whole new reckoning. But every time I really miss him and wonder where he's gone, I just look at [Mathilda.]"
The happy times: "'Brokeback Mountain' was an unrepeatable moment in time, a very charmed time in my life. I was in love; I was in a movie I was proud to be a part of, and with a beautiful brand-new baby. Everything was good in that moment."
Dealing with the paparazzi presence: "It's because of this tragedy that there's more paparazzi. That is hard to be graceful and understanding about... It's hard to be the man and the woman in that [paparazzi] situation. Heath always used to do that for us."
Falling in love: "I thought falling in love again was the only thing that was going to save me from the pain. This erroneous idea: It just makes things more complicated."
What the future holds: "I feel hopeful and grateful. For a while I thought we had lost everything. It makes you want to love better and live better."

I agree with J. I mean they talk about all the troubles of balancing. Balancing their millions in their checkbooks? and paying nannies min. wage and housekeepers miniumum wage. That is what they are balancing. Heath will be missed though. He was the best actor of all time.
Really? Who are you to judge? Its all relative, we are all basically living the same experience as human beings. Just because someone is rich, that does not buy happiness as we all know. You all act like just because someone has money that they have no problems. GROW UP! This idealization of rich people in this country has got to stop, its getting beyond stupid.
I really liked Heath Ledger but the simple truth is that actors seek the spotlight and some ultimately can't stand the glare. His passing was sad but not tragic, we're all part of a cult of personality that vests emotions in those who merely read lines, albeit very well.... Heath wasn't the first and he most certainly won't be the last to pay the high price of fame.

Ask any actor and they will say that it is the easiest thing in the world to play a pantomime villain – and Batman's Joker is no more than that: a heavily made-up, prancing & dancing cartoon character. Almost anyone in the industry could have done this, and would have done it well. Not ! Oscar worthy..I'm not saying Heath Ledger didn't play a damn fine Joker - he was a very good actor, after all. He was great in Brokeback Mountain and I'm sure that he would have gone on to play many more good roles, some of which might have landed him more (and more deserved) Oscar nominations and Oscar statues. He should not get one for playing the Joker though. No actor should. It's simply not a role that deserves a serious acting prize

I think Michelle summed it up well. Anyone who has ever lost a significant other has an idea of what she is going through. Rather than insult the woman, try alittle compassion--she is raising Heath's daughter, who looks like Heath! Can you imagine the joy/pain simultaneously?
Reply
EXACTLY! This morons have no clue! Michelle is the epitome of class and they just can't grasp that since they have none at all, obviously. Lets be shallow and rude and kick a women when she is down why don't we? Heath obviously saw something in her and that is between the two of them and not for others to judge.
Would AOL please do something about "tupoyiwan701" and their annoying ads? I report this idiot every single day, and still see their name and ad on a post. Anyway, AOL's news is misleading, they say one thing, and I am interested in reading, but what is supposed to be on their news never is. Michelle doesn't even mention anything about Heath's drug abuse, and what the hell she is talking about holding it together by a string.........what does this mean?
I liked Heath's movies, I loved Brokeback Mountain. He was a great actor.

If you hang something from a string, instead of a rope, it's more fragile. What's not to understand about that? She was fragile and having to stay as together as she could, like walking on egg shells...very easy to break with each step forward. She held it together for their daughter. And it's still an emptiness that she will always feel. Compassion and an attempt to understand someone's feelings when they have lost someone special to them is what is needed. Until you have suffered the same or similar loss, you have no right to comment. Whether you liked or loathed Heath, Michelle and Mathilda are not him...They have to go on and should not have to be in his shadow forever. I'm sure he wants his beloved daughter to have a better life than that. Maybe it's time to let them grieve out of the public's scrutiny.
:MsG: too funny. I loved this post!

Who effing cares?!?! Heath Ledger was a waste of oxygen and anyone stupid enough to get knocked up by him is even MORE of a waste.

I'm glad that she spoke out a little but I don't think it's going to make her feel any better because she feels guilty for what happened to Heath like she drove him to depression which made him want to take pills to ease his pain, etc. I don't think she meant to and maybe she thought keeping the kid from him and breaking up with him would make him change his ways but he was a free-spirited vulnerable person who needed love and understanding. She wanted the 'American Dream' but they were too different. I'm just sad that it had to end this way for Heath, his daughter, and those who really loved him...

Morgy, you are a disgusting excuse for a human being. Lets see how you feel/react when someone YOU love dies. Then lets pick apart every thing you do for the next two years, and I mean EVERYTHING. I bet you wouldn't fair nearly as well as Ms. Williams. Sounds like you know a little TOO MUCH about being a self entitled and immature! Only someone as immature as you would write such untrue mean comments about someone you don't know and never will. Bitter much?
