Relatively few Hollywood marriages stand the test of time, so when one comes along that so clearly exudes love and sincerity, you tend to take notice. Patrick Swayze and Lisa Niemi were one such couple, and their 34-year marriage was a lesson in dedication and survival through good times and bad.
They led a relatively quiet life together -- for years spending most of their time at his horse ranch near Los Angeles, where he died Monday after battling cancer. But over the years, he's been outspoken in discussing the beautiful nature of their relationship. Flip through the gallery for classic pics, quotes >>
A 19-year-old Swayze met Lisa Niemi in 1970 at his mother's dance studio and she immediately brought the cocky hunk and his ego down to earth. "She didn't buy any of my nonsense," he's said of their early days. "We spent half our dates in total silence as she wouldn't talk to me if she thought I was putting on an act." Five years later they were married.

what an inspiring couple. They weathered all the storms and yet stayed together. They took their marriage vows very seriously. It's sad to see him go and his memory will live on. She is a very strong woman and I have such admiration for her. He was a wonderful actor, dancer and husband.
I LOVE PATRICK SWAYZE....THAT IS WONDERFUL THAT HE AND HIS WIFE SHARED 34 WONDERFUL YEARS TOGETHER ...ALTHOUGH I KNOW HE'S IN A BETTER PLACE NO MORE SUFFERING HE'LL BE GREATLY MISSED...I WILL CERTAINLY BE PRAYING FOR HIS FAMILY......
They gave us choices where you could only choose one favorite movie so I did not get a chance to put down "Road House" I usually watch this type video but he was so great in it that I could not stop watching. He has been my favorite over so many others for a long while. I guess I seen all the films he has made. There was something about his looks on or off screen that told you he was a great great guy. I loved hearing how great a marriage he had. What a great legacy he leaves with such a wonderful lifestyle. Lots of Love and Prayers to his wife and all family members. I am so sorry about losing him ----we will miss him but Thank God ---it all don't end here.
What a wonderful love story! Johnny, I agree with you! Paul- Is an idiot! But there will always be someone trying to down a good person. Maybe that is because he/they are not happy with theirself. God bless his wife and family.
Really!?!?! That's what you have to say about the death of another human being! How ignorant of you! My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and all who loved him. From all we know of him, he was a good, kind and compassionate man! Compassion and kindness seems to be a trait lacking in you Mr. Thompkins!!
My heart goes out to Patrick's family. I lost my husband to pancreatic cancer three months after he was diagnosed. I regret that their easy part is over, having him and losing him. Now begins the hard part, missing him and learning to live without him. God Bless them.
I'm so sorry for your loss it had to be so hard but try to think that you are honored because you knew him and shared a life with him Keep his memory alive by remembering the nice things you had He is in a nicer place looking down at you and taking care of you, be happy for those times and make him proud...
Damn, Johnny, you took the words right out of my mouth! Paul, you are an effing IDIOT. Nice sotry about their wonderful marriage, and you go and be a jerk about smoking? How do you spell jerk? P-A-U-L!!!!!
Paul- really is that the best you can do??? Sounds like you need a hug buddy... There are a lot of things we do throughout this life that can have tragic consequences, including yourself I'm sure, and you feel it is your duty to point that out in this family's tragic hour. And might I add that I hadn't heard of smoking causing pancreatic cancer, thanks for the info... Well I just hope that when you meet your end and your family is grieving, if you have anyone to greive you, that someone is there to enlighten them on how it could of been prevented!!! :) Enjoy the rest of your miserable existence. RIPeace Patrick!!
Yes, smoking is a major cause of pancreatic cancer. He could have helped himself respond to therapy if he had just stopped smoking when diagnosed, but he refused. His choice. Her choice for putting up with a 3 pack a day husband for 34 years. Anything that puts toxic stress on your system does not help your health in any way. Smoking has been linked directly to many cancers, one of which Patrick developed.
I concur with you on that one steph it should be a time to remember what a great actor and husband patrick swayze was not to dwell on his cause of death and the one that called him a jerk you know what there are a whole bunch of his supportive fans on here that like him so step off and let us show our appreciation ok? RIP SWAYZE YOU WILL BE DEFINATELY MISSED AND REMEMBERED
Pancreatic Cancer is a desease thats TERMINAL no amoount of money can save you from this horiffic desease. My mother, rest in peace, died from it..and the suffering is horrible...Lets put more money into research for this...I know patrick Swayzee put up a fight, as well my mother did...REMEMBER, IT A DEATH WARRANT.....
