Uma Thurman is in a reflective mood these days. With her kids getting a bit older and a 40th birthday on the not-so-distant horizon, the 'Kill Bill' actress knows she could have been more famous. "I feel like I lived my life backwards," she says in the October issue of W Magazine, where she talks candidly about how she shaped her career around motherhood, and not ambition for fame, and how she's ready to get back out there in the world of Hollywood.
"I've been living at home for work for a long time," the NYC-based star, who has 2 sons (ages 11 and 7) with ex-husband Ethan Hawke, says. "If I don't leave soon, I'm going to literally choke my career to death." Click for Pics, Interview Highlights
Uma Thurman may not appear ready to hit the pavement in this shot from W Magazine, but make no mistake, she's looking to get back to work. "I've been living at home for work for a long time. If I don't leave soon, I'm going to literally choke my career to death." More Pics of Uma Out & About >>

On Wedding Plans: "I'm happily engaged [to Arpad "Arki" Busson], but we haven't set a wedding up. I'm not in a rush to do anything. One day we'll do it, when we're ready... We can't live anywhere else because my children's' father lives here. We'll figure that out."
On Her Tough 30s: "I can't say my 30s were the easiest time. And I had thought my 20s were hard! ... You know, that's the worst mistake a woman can make, to think, Oh, I'm 32 and I've had two kids and I've worked since I was 16 and now it's going to get easier. Because as soon as you think that, you're doomed! You're absolutely doomed!"
On Her Kids Getting Older, and What That Means for Her Career: "It's nice to think that everybody's getting more independent and now I can kind of maybe, slightly selfishly, think about work again ...You know, I do care about my work, and it is part of me. And I am a mother, but I need to do what I'm good at doing. You really can't let go of all of yourself ... Even your kids need you to be who you are ... I've been living at home for work for a long time. If I don't leave soon, I'm going to literally choke my career to death."
I honestly believe that Uma is one of the more attractive hollywood ladies around. I mean just look at those photos of her in her white and pink tshirt. Very attractive. She is actually getting better as she ages. I think she did things in the correct order contrary to what she thinks.
I would hate to read this if I was one of her children. She has given up her life for her children! That kinda goes with the territory, don't you think? Do you want a career or children. I used to think you could have both. Now that my children are almost grown, I feel differently. I think children need their mothers, 24/7. It is hard to stay sane with divided loyalties. I have been home for the last 11 years and I am grateful for that time with my children. They deserved more of my time.
WHILE I LIKE UMA, THESE ACTORS DRIVE ME NUTS. FIRST OFF YOU'RE IN THE TOP 1% OF GOOD LOOKING PEOPLE AND YOU CAN BE NATURAL IN FRONT OF A CAMERA. VERY FEW ARE EXCEPTIONAL AT ACTING. THE IMPORTANCE AND SELF-IMPORTANCE THESE PEOPLE( ACTORS)PLACE AND HAVE PLACED ON THEM IS RIDICULOUS. MOST PEOPLE WORK THEIR BUTTS OFF ALL THEIR LIVES AT CRAP JOBS, FOR PEANUTS. THE MONEY THEY MAKE IS SHAMEFUL. YOU'RE LUCKY YOU WERE ABLE TO STAY HOME AND RAISE YOUR KIDS.
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos
