Chris Brown Starts Community Service
The 20-year-old R&B singer worked along with two others who were serving probation, clearing tall weeds and brush by hand and with yard tools. Additional officers were on hand, but only a few fans and television crews gathered nearby.
Brown's schedule, including work hours and days, will be flexible, and he will be performing different types of manual labor, Richmond Police spokesman Gene Lepley said. Police will not reveal when or where Brown will be working in hopes of avoiding security and logistical problems, he said.
"We'll just take a look at it day by day and certainly would ask for the cooperation of the public and Chris' fans so that he is able to satisfy the work requirements," Lepley said.
Brown must pay for the extra guards who work while he is performing community service. He was sentenced in California last month to five years' probation, six months of community labor and a year of domestic violence counseling for the February attack.
He is performing the labor and undergoing counseling in Richmond, near his home in Montpelier.
The Brown-Rihanna Case
Chris Brown has been sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community labor for his felony assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna in February.

In his first communication with the public about the attack this summer, Brown told his fans how sorry he is about the beating incident. "I am very sad and very ashamed of what I have done... I've told Rihanna countless times and I am telling you all today that I am truly, truly sorry that I wasn't able to handle the situation both differently and better. " he said.

Back in April, Brown pleaded not guilty to both assault and criminal threat charges in court.

Brown's manager, Tina Davis, was named by TMZ as the woman behind the text message that sparked his alleged beating of Rihanna. She has since denied the claims, saying: "The rumors in circulation are false. There are no emails between Ms. Davis and Mr. Brown of the type which have been described in media reports."

Court documents revealed that the police report claims Brown allegedly assaulted Rihanna in his car after she discovered a text message on his phone. According to the report, Brown smashed her head against the window, and then punched and bit her.

TMZ obtained a photo that appears to be singer Rihanna, taken shortly after Brown allegedly beat her following a pre-Grammy party. Police have said the woman had visible injuries, and that Brown was gone from the scene when they arrived.

Brown can be seen leaving the police station after being booked. According to police reports, he assaulted Rihanna in the car, and told her "I'm going to beat the s--- out of you when we get home." He also allegedly threatened to kill her after she told her assistant to call the police.

In their cover story, PEOPLE spoke with the father of Rihanna, who says he hopes his daughter is done with boyfriend Brown after his alleged assault. Shortly after, reports that Rihanna and Brown were back together in Miami emerged.
PEOPLE
Brown, seen a day before the alleged attack, released a statement on Feb. 15, which read in part, "Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired."

He is doing the same service as two others - he isnt getting special treatment. Although I DO NOT condone his actions - he is serving his punishment in the manner in which the court ordered. There's something about this young man that makes me believe he deserves a 2nd chance. What he does with that 2nd chance is entirely in his own hands and I hope he doesnt disappoint. He's serving his sentence - I hope he learns from this experience and is able to move on.

I totally agree with your statement.
Why isn't he wearing his bow tie and sweater?

That's a good look for him!

Chris Brown is now a martyr to his fans and the whole hip hop community. He is a victim of the system and is unjustly targeted and victimized himself. That is the mantra of his followers. Now he will now have a rap sheet and that adds up to respect from the rap community. Serving time for a crime is a badge of honor for a rapper and thugs too. They now have something to brag about and get respect as well. This mind set has permiated the youth culture to its core and they really believe they are victims even if they victimize someone else. Sad and pathetic, but that is they way it is. Keepin it real.

Duke... you shouldn't comment if you have no clue...it is obvious that you don't. Chris Brown is far from a thug and he has never represented his self in that manner. Yes, what he did was wrong but i am sure you have done worse in your life and people have forgiven you. Please stop with the silly "keep it real" because you have no clue. I am tired of everybody painting black guys as thugs. What about everyone else what are they when they commit a crime? Just stop the bull@!#$ and speak on what you know not what you have heard.

I don't think anyone was saying all black guys are thugs. Just the ones who act like thugs, run with thugs, do thug things, etc...
If the black community wants to quit being associated with thugs--stop promoting thug life.
Duke is correct--now he has a rap sheet and that means more status. It is no different than the white people's mafia and mobsters. It's just no one can say what is real when you are talking about the black community. If these 'musicians' wanted to help their community, they would empower their audiences with words of hope and equality--instead of disempowering them with the promise of hate and discension within their own community.
If the Klu Klux Klan put their hate messages to music--would it make it alright???
Yeah, I'm sure everybody has done things worse than beating the heck out of our boyfriends/girlfriends. That's awesome. Nobody said all black men were thugs. You just assumed that for no reason and went on the defensive. This guy just happens to be black, and he just happened to have beat up his girlfriend and threatened to kill her. If it was a white guy, I would think he deserved worse than he got, too. Color doesn't matter. People making an issue of someone's color when it shouldn't be an issue is really aggravating.
It's time we leave the boy along! I believe he has learned his lesson! We have to remember that they both are young teenagers, and both has some growing up to do. If we older grown-ups had to answer to everything we did when we were that age, alot of us and you younger teens wouldn't be here! I don't agree on how he handled this, nor I agree on how she was involved. Chris I hope you have continued sucess in whatever you set out to do.

Can't believe he even has fans left. Doesn't matter if he is black, white, brown, purple of green, he is a convicted abuser. Once an abuser always an abuser. Keep pulling those weeds

Somewhere there's a bullet with Chris Brown's name on it. Hopefully it will end up lodged in his skull, sooner rather than later. Once it does, I'll be the happiest woman on the face of the earth!

This is despicable! Anyone promoting, waiting, and obviously wishing for another person to die, should seek professional treatment! You are worse than he is, as he reacted while seriously angered. Not condoning that, but you are writing this BS while calm. Just remember, what you put out is generally what you get back. That negativity will not help you.
