'Dancing' Couple Still Friends After Split

Despite their split earlier this month, Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are still on good terms. "It's kind of easy to stay friends," Smirnoff told PEOPLE.

"We were friends for 14 years, before anything else. It will always remain this way. It's not difficult. We both think the world of each other," she added.

The 'Dancing With The Stars' couple broke up after being engaged for eight months.

"There are a lot of events, and a lot of opportunities where you have to go solo," she says. "It's interesting because I know there are a lot of people in the room I want to meet and interact with."

As for Maks she adds: "Nothing has changed. Everything is great."

Smirnoff and Chmerkovskiy met on 'Dancing With the Stars' and started dating in October of last year. Then, just a few months later on New Year Eve, he popped the question. They planned on getting married in June 2010.

I KNOW!! It was like if they wrote the article first and then when the interview with PEOPLE was posted they decided to incorporate it. Just goes to show you what journalism has become. People write whatever with out checking facts. Besides, most of the professionals on DWTS did not just meet when they started the show. Most of them have been professionally competing with each other for years so they know each other.

This 'romance' was just a publicity stunt. It never had a sense of realism or authenticity about it. I stopped watching Dancing With The Stars because of too many of these contrived and fabricated side issues that are created to boost ratings.

Once they both realized that neither was a multi-millionaire they "bounced". Looks fad, as do jobs in Hollywood, so without major bank, the money musical chairs begin. Nothing worst than walking around L.A. with either saggging boob's or a hair piece, old, no dough, as a "use to be".

I knew when he started putting pressure on her that she would swim away. Maxium is ready to do the father, family domesticated scean in his life. She wants to party and have love affairs until she is well into her forties. Doesn't make her a bad person, just one that lives life to write love memiors with.

they are both way too egotistical to have lasted with each other!!! She will be sleeping with her next partner on dancing with the stars

They are people just like everyone else. Maks and Karina are just higher profile. I too wondered when I read that Maks was ready for children. One is not willing to compromise. Child birth would effect her career, but not his so I'm guessing it might be Karina. It's just speculation on my part.
