'Dancing' Couple Still Friends After Split

Despite their split earlier this month, Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are still on good terms. "It's kind of easy to stay friends," Smirnoff told PEOPLE.

"We were friends for 14 years, before anything else. It will always remain this way. It's not difficult. We both think the world of each other," she added.

The 'Dancing With The Stars' couple broke up after being engaged for eight months.

"There are a lot of events, and a lot of opportunities where you have to go solo," she says. "It's interesting because I know there are a lot of people in the room I want to meet and interact with."

As for Maks she adds: "Nothing has changed. Everything is great."

Smirnoff and Chmerkovskiy met on 'Dancing With the Stars' and started dating in October of last year. Then, just a few months later on New Year Eve, he popped the question. They planned on getting married in June 2010.

What's the matter with you people? Don't be so rude. Karina & Maks are better off friends anyway. It is possible to be friends with your ex's. I am. I like Maks single. Leaves him availible for me. I always thought it was a publicity stunt. Remember when he was on The Insider of Entertainment Tonight
going on dates? Then all of a sudden he was engaged. It was really stupid. I personally don't care for him or for her but I guess they can use this to boost their careers outside DWTS.

Mak, you should have NEVER hooked up with Karina to begin with. She is a PLAYER and you could do much better. Face wise, she is NOT pretty at all, a body yes, but that's about it! Move on and think with your BRAINS the next time!
