Well, I'm happy for her, but I just don't understand why all these celebrities adopt children from everywhere except the US. I guess there aren't any children here to adopt????

I agree, maybe we make it more difficult. I
cannot imgine why Jolie, and others do not
adobt from the U.S., maybe someone else knows the
reason.

She has a sister that was adopted from Korea so that is why she wanted to adopt from there.

I know why... Because the US makes sure that the home is OK and the parents are not nuts and the waiting times is years not the few months it takes with foreign adoption. And besides Branjolie have made it "popular" to have a foreign baby

The US makes the adoption process long and arduous for parents who want to adopt. On the other hand, too many people want babies which are fewer than older children. And usually, non-minority babies which are fewer still.

I agree with you, while I'm happy for them, their are many American children in need of parents lets take care of our own first,we have white, black, hispanic, and asian children here in America that need help to.

The US adoption laws make it extremely difficult to adopt infants, and in many cases allow birthparents to change their minds as much as months after an adoption - a heartbreaking possibility for an adoptive parent. Adopting from foster care is even harder, with biological parents' "rights" being strongly favored even when the parents are drug addicted, abusive, or seriously neglectful of their children. International adoptions DO require significant hoops to be jumped through - homestudies, criminal background checks, post-adoption visits, etc. It is neither easy nor cheap to adopt from overseas. However, as many adoptive parents know, the answer to the question "Why adopt from overseas?" is "Because that's where my children were!"

I think this country makes it so hard for a person to adopt. I have several friends who have adopted and there is just so much red tape here and what they put people through is horrible. They first make you take an ad out in the paper and get a toll free # for people who may want to let you adopt their baby to call you on. My friend was getting calls from people in prison who were pretending that they wanted her to adopt their child...basically a cruel prank to someone who is already dealing with the fact that they can't have their own child and now has to be put through this crap. The agencys in this country also play games...the same friend adopted her first child from an agency in Texas (which took years) and the natural mother of the child called my friend a few years later that she was pregnant again and wanted her to adopt her son's natural sibling. The agency wouldn't do it and in the end the baby was adopted out to someone else rather than have the two siblings together. The adoption system in this country is cruel.

I also have several friends that have tried to adobt here in the US. The US does make it to hard to adobt. Plus if either of the biological parents want to come back & say they want them, the governments take the child & gives back to the biological parent. The abdotive family gets nothing back & are left heart broken. My one friend had her baby for 3 days, when the biological mother changed her mind. She was heart broken & out thousands of dollars.

Because the US's adoption laws favor the biological parent, and too many kids are taken away from their adoptive parents. I know...my husband and I are both adopted, and our wonderful friends had a baby girl taken away from them TWICE by the biological mother, who kept changing her mind. She was finally offered back to them a third time, and they had to say "no", because they didn't trust her not to do it again, and the law sided with her. I am sad for the couples in the US trying to adopt here...too scary.

What about all the American children that need homes??????????????????????????? All these stars make money in USA but ............what about our home land ????????

I think because the adoption process is not only LONGER here, it is also more difficult, and it is a LOT easier for the biological parents to "change their minds" and take back the child you have grown a bond with.

I agree! Whats up with that? They never adopt from here. I think Its a tragedy that with all the children here that need homes that they go elsewhere!!! But I guess they wouldn't get all the media then? Who knows.. Its sad for our children though, they need parents and love too. seems like no one cares about them...

They do adopt kids in the US. A child without a family is a child who needs a family no matter where they come from. I'm sick of people who are so narrow minded!

I have always wondered the same thing. We have so many loving childern right here in the US--there is no reason to go outside the US--unless maybe they get paid big time.

I am not one hundred percent certain, but if Jolie was in a mental institute (like she was rumored to have been when she was younger) or any kind of mental thing going on, she isn't legally allowed to adopt in the US...as far as I knew...but that is just a guess.
I agree though. What about the American babies? I get what you are all saying about how hard it is, but when you are a celebrity, you don't think you can pull some strings? And it is hard for average joes to adopt ANYWHERE.

I work for Child Protective Services in the State of Texas, and trust me on this, there are lost of children here who need forever homes. Most celebrities decide one day they want a baby and are able to get one quickly going outside the united states. The majority of them could not pass the criminal background checks required to become licensed adoptive parents in my state. WE see good, stable families for our children and Hollywood don't seem to have many of those!

it takes years to adopt a white baby in the US. My friend got her american baby 6 years after completeing the process. My other friend had to go into hiding for a week with her new baby because the biological father showed up after 10 months and tried to see her. Its not worth the devastation, easier to adopt elsewhere

Yes-the US does make it more difficult. One of the other and, perhaps, biggest reason is that most people in the US who want to adopt, want to adopt a healthy baby-not a toddler, an older child and even more rarely, a special needs child. As many unwanted pregnancies as there are in this country-there are more parents that want 'healthy babies' than are available.
I can tell you this from personal experience.

Please don't use the R word.. you just have no idea how hurtful that word is when you are raising a special needs child.
