In a week that Kanye West would surely like to forget, there's a minor swirl going around the Web that might actually help his wounded (but still massive) ego. The rumor mill somehow made its way all the way up to a USA Today blog, with some questioning if Kanye's VMA outburst staged beforehand. Could the moment have possibly been staged, and in the slim chances it were, should someone have come out by now to say it was indeed a big joke to avoid further damage for West? In the various conspiracy theory-esque posts, writers cite that Kanye and Taylor Swift, who he rudely interrupted as she was accepting an award, share the same agent. The reports also claim that the same agent, David Wirtschafter of the William Morris Endeavor agency, also represented 50 Cent during his beef with Kanye a few years back. So, was the "any publicity is good publicity" ploy in full force here, regardless of the massive blow to Kanye's reputation?
"I don't think the Kanye-Taylor incident was staged," said Tracey Ford, the Managing Editor of hip-hop blog TheBoombox.com. "Kanye was photographed swinging a half-empty bottle of Hennessy. Cognac coupled with a reputation to spazz out every now and then can certainly lead to public tirades."
Ford was quick to point out that West "has a history of unabashed outbursts. See: "George Bush doesn't care about black people,'" which in her opinion makes a staging less likely.
Richard Spencer, the Editor in Chief for In Touch Weekly magazine, says that the possibility of a staged event "was actually my first thought when it happened, considering the last award show's stunt with Eminem and Bruno, but I have faith that MTV wouldn't purposely humiliate Taylor Swift like that. Nor would I think Kanye would volunteer to have his career image take such a beating."
Spencer is referring to the MTV Movie Awards buzz moment when Sacha Baron Cohen plummeted from the ceiling dressed as his character 'Bruno,' landing bare-bummed atop rapper Eminem's face. Eminem stormed out of the hall in faux-anger, and the two later admitted it was all pre-planned.

Don't even TRY to give this piece of crap an excuse!!
I agree with all the comments above except for the president getting one thing right. I feel he got more right then any of the others and he is cleaning up their mess. Now that mtv episode I was told that it was staged to take the bad attention off of beyounce for making those negative statement regardling the late Michael jackson family. This behavior gave her an opportunity to look like she really give a darn about someone other than herself, when its obvious if you have to make yourself feel better and look better by commenting on a deceased person family. She know she does not have the talent that some of the jacksons has namely Janet and Michael so therefore put yourself in a class to look better. Class is not the title I would give you but subtract the c and the l and this is what you are also West. She had such an awarness laugh on her face, when the incident occured. If you are shocked at someones action in a situation as this, a decent human would not have such a big smile on their face but would be shocked and sympathetic for someone that was placed in Taylors situation. She should have let her speak, she was the reason for the embrassment. Beyounce give the spotlight to someone else, come on think about it.This was one of my favorite entertainers but I truly believe my source when they tell me it was staged for Beyounce benefit.
CAT!!
WHAT A STUPID THING FOR YOU TO SAY...TIME FOR ANOTHER IDIOT LIKE YOU TO BE SHOT!! YOU GOT MY VOTE FOR THAT....
Marlena, I thought the same thing... In fact, I don't watch those types of events. I thought, that was one eye opener, though. I caught the highlights and thought: Hmmm, at least it wasn't boring this time... It was funny to me. He didn't try to kill her, after all... She isn't that good to win such an award... Beyonce did do the right thing, but... How does one know, if it was real or Memorex???
Yes, I'm sure that a-hole would be more than pleased to grasp onto a string of this asinine theory in order to excuse his crappy behavior, but the majority of us with a working brain cell aren't going to buy it.
How could it be staged? What would've happened if she didn't win the VMA award. I think everyone here is just getting too into this whole incident that you're starting to make up things to cover Kanye West. And his little "speech" was all opinion, not facts.

Everyone in the running knows beforehand who won, that's how. Honestly, I was suspicious when I read of the "1/2 empty" bottle of Hennesey. And why would Taylor Swift feel at all humiliated when she had little to nothing to do with the directing, producing, casting, editing of her video? Consider how this event is still being discussed, names mentioned over and over, and most important discussed outside fandom and the music biz. T. Swift was merely of pre-teen interest before this, her manager [also Kanye's] has had her name now uttered repeatedly in offices across the country. Job well-done.
I agree Dan. If it was staged then all the VMA awards are staged. Kanye West is a dam fool, always has been a fool and always be a fool. Seems to me like he is trying to move in on Jay Z and get some of that Beyonce booty. Kanye is desperate for attention and I guess bad attention is better than none at all. Taylor responded with class as did Beyonce. Dont think we'll be hearing any new record deals for Kanye...trying to brown-nose Beyonce. Look out Jay-Z he wants some of your woman.
She wouldn't have been there if she didn't know she was gonna win one.
I find it very interesting that in an interview afterwards, Swift said that they told her to wait on the side of the stage backstage hwen Beyonce won. How woule they know she would win AND call her up unless it was staged. Also, convenient that Jay Leno's 1st night on primetime Kanye was scheduled to appear as a guest before the VMA incident occurred. Taylor Swift was a guest on the View on Tuesday. That's a lot of coincidences!

right, cuz soon as beyonce called her name..bam, taylor was on stage..it seems fishy to me..
Tika my understanding is that Beyonce's father arranged for Taylor to be back stage in the event that Beyonce won that night. I'm guessing that Beyonce spoke to her dad about what happened to Taylor and told him what she wanted to do.
And let's not forget Beyonce calling Taylor out looking like her twin in a very similar red dress! Things that make you go hmmmmmmmm
The worst thing about racism is where it is REALLY perpetrated. Honestly, where are you getting your information concerning the VMA's. Your beloved Kenya has no respect for himself proven by the garbage that he has said publicly for years. You can't fix stupid and no amount of RUMOR control can fix the stupid S--T coming out of that stupid hole. Beyonce is a class act, is now and has always been. I must be as stupid as your buddy Kenya because I will never believe that she would be part of such a STAGE direct raciest outburst. As am I, she is real and would surly never be part of such a racist common Kenya outburst. Remember, its not the first time he has spouted racism from the stage and the media. That said---who is the raciest, and who is making sure that racism is alive and well. I was taught to keep your remarks to your self and mostly if it hurts ANY others. I can only guess that you were never taught to respect yourself so that you can respect others.
Nothing was staged he is a rude , racist pig who has not been trained how to behave in public.
I hope so many people write to the awards they ban him next year. One good thing he thought he was so cool he could do what he wanted . He looks like a fool and that is why he is falling all over himself begging her and the public for forgiveness!!!!
@ PJ...i'm assuming you're white. since white people have never been the recipients of REAL racism, let me tell you what it is. its getting a cross burned in your front yard, having your churches burned, being dragged down the road behind a car, getting "ni**er" spray painted on your house and being forced to move out of a neighborhood and not being able to go to certain schools all because of the color of your skin. it is NOT having some drunken idiot come on on stage to make some dumb remark. he's just an a**hole, plain and simple. no racism involved at all.
Tika, you're reaching baby. I understand trying to have loyalty for your people but come on lets keep it real. He f#@ked up and it is what it is. I don't think he even cares that he made Swift look stupid or himself for that matter. The only reason he is apologizing is because he made beyonce lood stupid and that is Jay Z's girl. He was probably feeling so stupid waking up with a hangover thinking OMG and now I have to on Leno tonight. He only thought about his self and about how stupid he was going to make everybody else look. He put evreyone in a very awkward and emabarrasing position.
if they really wanted the publicity for this they would have scheduled Kanye on Leno's show AFTER it happened. Swift was most likely scheduled for the view because it was pretty probable she was going to win.
And as far as Taylor being backstage, I'm willing to bet a lot of people thought Beyonce would do what she did, me and my friends did. Within minutes of it happening someone said 'I bet Beyonce's gonna bring Taylor up if she wins' and we were right, so even if Beyonce's dad had nothing to do with it, it may have been a good idea to have Taylor back there anyway.
