alcoholism is a disease ,You cant shame or humiliate someone out of cancer ,Why would you think you can shame him out of being an alcoholic? though he does need help, people forget this is a horrable disease.....

Shaming an alcoholic does eventually lead to "bottoming out" which triggers getting help. Some alcoholics never get help because they are either enabled their whole life or resent the rest of the world and see themselves as a victim. Only when an alcoholic loses all self respect will they seek help.

I do would like to know how this person has custody of his daughter... If anyone should not have custody it would be him. And he should voluntarily give up his child to the girls Mother but then he would lose his nurse wouldn't he?

Unfortunately, the daughter is at the age she can choose to live with either parent. Didn't the article say she was 17? I believe in most states it's 14 to decide which parent you'd rather live with. Let's face it, she probably gets away with EVERYTHING living with him. Very sad indeed. And he's so funny on America's got Talent. I see him getting the boot pretty soon.

"Some alcoholics never get help because they are either enabled their whole life" I really think it is unfair for anyone to claim that a person is an alcoholic because there is an enabler...I moved out of my home because of alcohol and two years later-even though I was living in Florida and he in Maryland-his "group" told him I was his enabler? It didn't make sense then and even less now...

Obviously, he has no desire to quit. His kids deserve no blame in how they respond to his drunkenness. It might be a disease, but it affects all that surround him. I feel so sorry for his children.

The man is embarrassing on America's Got talent - I think he and Kara and this year's emceee at America's Got talent shoulds start their own show..

HE is still making money and getting positive reinvorcement - no problem untul he drives drunk into a car of innocent people.

Taking the movie did help him for a bit of time and it also let the world know that he needs help. Enabling and hiding another's person's alcoholism just makes them worse and gives them the feeling that everything is under control. His daughter was right to film him and put it on the internet because it was her cry for help and her reaching out for HERSELF. Yes, twelve step programs are wonderful and they work but each person gets there by hitting rock bottom and being hit in the head with an emotional 2x4 of reality.

You must be a drinker to talk that way about a young girl trying
to help her father to stop drinking. He can drink himself into a stupor, but it does not only affect him. It affects all around him. Hopefully he won't run out of money and be a homeless drunk on the street.

I bet his breath smells like puke 24/7.

Much easier to control the population by letting them create their own demise. Too bad for Hoffman, he still has a chance, but he is losing his beauty to the very thing he allows to control him. I just hope that when he is ready to get help that he does it with a medical team, alcohol withdrawal can actually kill a person. Too bad for the whole family, I can say this, I know what it is like to alcholism in the family....It is brutal to children, why on earth did the judge rule in the favor of celebrity father, oh yeah, he had money.
