You would think that the Hoff learned his lesson the first time around, but NO! It seems like it will take more than public humiliation to turn his life around. But alcoholism is NOT a disease. If it was, it's the only disease you have to work at to get. Cancers, as any disease, can strike anyone, of any age, at any time. You have to drink alcohol, on purpose, to become an alcoholic. Alcoholism is an addiction. The Hoff needs help to battle his addiction, not people feeling sorry for him because he has a "disease".

Your ignorance is showing. Statistics indicare that alcoholics are born with a predisposition to the disease of alcoholism, much as the gene which causes breast cancer indicates a predisposition to contracting breast cancer. It is not necessarily a precursor to the disease, but indicates more probability than those without the predisposition. I am an alcoholic who no longer drinks, I am the daughter of an alcoholic parent and granddaughter to alcoholics on both sides. I was born alcoholic, it is a genetic marker. I did not choose to be one, any more than I chose to be Irish or have red hair and freckles. It simply is. I stopped drinking when it was time for me to stop - when I could no longer tell when the alcohol and I were separate entities. I am one of the fortunate ones, I learned that I cannot drink successfully. Not today. I do know, however, that it is most definitely a disease-one of the body, mind and spirit.
The man has a serious problem he is old enough to know that what he is doing is unhealthy and will probably die young. He is an alcoholic and should commit himself for at least a year.

I feel so sorry for his children. A very unfair situation for them that they will carry for rest of their lives. They must have grown up wondering what they did wrong and wonder why their dad chooses alcohol over them. What a selfish, weak, sick man.

David Please get some help before you kill yourself and mess up your kids lives even more then you aready have. This is so sad that your 17 yr old has to take care of you because you dont care enough for yourself.

Wow, I've never seen that video. That should have been enough. I think it's crap that they say "alcoholism" is a disease. It's a choice to take that drink and it's a choice to let it get out of control. Everyone wants to blame something or someone for their own failures. He needs to take responsibility for himself and stop subjecting his child to his bad choices! What a piece of crap!

Dumb response...you have no idea what you are
talking about. It is a disease, and can be genetic.
God help them

David...open your eyes, you need help desperately. Don't put your children and yourself at risk. You have a successful job...you'll end up losing it, then what?

David,
You pathetic loser.
Get a life, what the hell is wrong with you.
I know you are an alcoholic but look at what you are doing to your child.
All your money obviously has not bought you a brain.
STOP

The emmy's are not voted by the viewers and none of the good shows win. Except Pushing Daisies

That is one of the saddest videos I have ever watched. My heart goes out to Haley. It took a lot of courage for her to expose her father as she did to try to help him. I hope that he is embarrassed and ashamed of himself and that he gets the help he needs to clean up his act before it is too late and he loses the love and respect of his daughter. How sad!

The press can ruin anyones life. why can't you just leave David Hasselhoff alone already. we in this family feel he is a great guy. Alcoholism is a disease. Often people who drink do so to drown out their sadness. DONT RUIN THE MANS LIFE. LET HIM DEAL WITH HIS DEMONS PRIVATELY.

I have no doubt that David is all too well aware of the extent of his illness and his addiction. One of the many problems that we alcoholics share is the desperation and the fear that we are unable to stop drinking and live successfully without alcohol. There are no heroes involved, no family member or friend can be s saviour or knight in shining armor. He must be terrified of his future, or perhaps the lack of one in his industry, and in this regard it is even more insidious because you can't even sneeze in Hollywood without it being on TMZ the next evening. But recovery is possible, and it can be accomplished in many different ways. But assuredly, not through ridicule, name calling and finger pointing. Those people, who would kick a guy when he is down, suffer a worse disease-a lack of compassion and I don't think there is recovery from that.

A drunk will keep drinking as long as there is booze. Somewhere, anywhere, he will find it. Take away his money and leave him on skid row where he belongs. Then if he cares about himself he will heal.

Keith, I am so happy that you have never experienced a personal failing, weakness,,illness or desperation in your life! How wonderful that everyone that you love has never been sad, hurt, lonely or frightened or in need of understanding or compassion. You obviously reside in a rarified atmosphere, and I am happy for you, because, I am afraid that any adversity or distress would be just too much for your gentle soul to tolerate.

You sound like a young punk that is still wet behind the ears. Alcohol does kill and for you to say such stupidity regarding the legal alcohol level as being illegal just proves how moronic you are. Yes, alcohol can be a pleasant drink but that is not the content of this article. If your brain was functioning properly you would note that this article is about an actor who is repeatedly losing his battle with alcoholism.
