Count Kara in Ellen's Corner

Kara DioGuardi is enthusiastic in her endorsement of new 'American Idol' judge Ellen DeGeneres. "I think it's a genius decision," said DioGuardi in response to the highly publicized decision to bring in DeGeneres to replace former judge, Paula Abdul. "I wish I had thought of it," she added during the Entertainment Tonight/People magazine Emmy Award after-party.

Idol fans have been mixed in their response to DeGeneres, host of the 12-time Emmy Award-winning 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show'. Many are entranced by her populist connection with fans while others are concerned about her lack of musical background which they deem essential to a music show. But DioGuardi, 38, remains unworried.

"I know a little bit about Ellen from watching her show and I would say she would probably be somebody who would be fair in her criticism and will try to be as supportive as she possibly could," she said.

'American Idol' has dominated ratings since its debut fueled largely by its talent-show format as well as the chemistry between hosts DioGuardi, Abdul, Randy Jackson and the volatile Simon Cowell, who's withering criticism has mesmerized fans.

"[Ellen will get along with everyone] 100 percent," said DioGuardi. "I was on her show once and she's lovely, generous, very kind. I think it's going to be great."

If Ellen is on the hot seat, it will be cooled by DioGuardi who also faced opposition when she joined 'Idol' last year. When asked where she would like Ellen to sit, DioGuardi responded "Hopefully, next to me."

DeGeneres, 51, is a veteran stand-up comedian who has hosted the Academy Awards as well as voiced the character of Dory in the Disney/Pixar animated hit 'Finding Nemo'. She publicly declared her homosexuality on 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' and mirrored this on her sitcom "Ellen" which has since been cancelled.
