Billy Joel's Got a New 'Lovely Lady'

Billy Joel kicked off a new season at the Metropolitan Opera on Monday with a new girl on his arm, the New York Observer reported. Deborah Dampiere arrived with Joel at the opening in a black Badgley Mischka gown, and stood by as her date was questioned about his future ex-wife.

Joel, 60, is in the midst of a divorce from his wife of five years Katie Lee Joel, 27. His publicist tried to intervene when one reporter brought it up, but Joel answered, "How are the divorce proceedings going? I don't know. Ask my lawyer."

"For now," he added, "I'm enjoying dating this lovely lady."

Goodto see Billy Joel getting on with life and best to him. He has been there in my life with his great music and his song Just The Way You Are was a hit song when me and the wife tied the knot 31 years ago. Way to go Billy. ;)

I agree with Carla. Although age shouldn't be an issue. I am in the midst of a divorce from my husband who's 22 years older than I after 24 years together. Maybe Billy should consider me. I'm 45 not too old or too young, totally loved by 3 step children who are close to my age, and I have no ulterior motive, just pure admiration for Billy (and because Paul McCartney lives in Europe most of the time;))

How does Billy Joel get girls to date him? I don't know about the younger girls he seems to attract, but I know how I personally would be attracted---I'm 61, (more or less his contemporary), AND from Massapequa, one town over from Hicksville, his hometown. So for me, the attraction is his Long Island accent, the lyrics of his songs (ie go back to high school and hanging out on the block), and his obvious talent for lyrics and composing. Brilliant and never get tired of "Italian Restaurant", etc. Also his love of LI keeping a home there when he could live anywhere. Actually the word "attraction" is wrong for me, it's more or less missing my youth. But as a composer, well, he's not Mozart, but he's still brillient. But I agree, the young women must be seeing $$$$ signs. Men are soooo dumb sometimes.....

It's all about the name and the money. These women aren't interested in the man get real. Maybe if he married a woman closer to his age he'd have better luck. He cheated on Christie Brinkley which I thought was the biggest mistake he could of made, they'd probably been still together, oh wait theirs his alcoholism to which I hope he's still getting help for.

many years ago i waited on billy joel & christie brinkley on long island...he was rude & CHEAP...the bill was over $100 buck and he left a $10 tip...i treated him like any other customer, just as i would like to be treated when i dine out...when he went to the bathroom, christie handed me a $50 bill & gave him hell...lol..maybe i didn't bow down to him enough..haha...a few years later he came into a harley dealership where i worked too & i asked him if he remembered me & he said, "how could i forget, i got hell from christie", he came back to the store a few weeks later & gave me tickets to a concert at the nassau coliseum...nice....

Twenty years ago a LOT of people were leaving $10 tips. I've been dining out for 50 years and the swing to 15 and 20% didn't begin until the late 80s. i'm suprised you don't remember that. if I recall there was a couple of specials on TV about waitressing, and until then not many people knew of sub-minimal wages, how help split tips, company policy etc.
