'American Idol' season six top 10 finisher Chris Sligh is doing fine. He has an album out and is making a living from his music. But he warns the new crop of top ten contestants from season eight that no one will care about them once the tour is over.
"You're not going to be successful. You're not going to be millionaires (with the exception of MAYBE Kris [Allen] and Adam [Lambert])," he writes on his blog.
"You are going to struggle. No one will care about you. Those fans who've been asking for your autograph all tour long - 98% of them don't give a flying poo about you once next season of Idol starts," he continues.
"They're not going to buy your album when you put it out 2 years late. Chances are you'll never feel the rush of playing in front 10,000 people who care about you again. Your star is waning and remarkably quickly," Sligh adds.
The singer spells out what he thinks pretty clearly. "In other words, your days of being a star are over. But that's all right - so are mine. And I'm one of the most successful for my season of 'Idol.' I'm not a star. Chances are I never again will be."
Sligh finished 10th in the sixth season, with Jordin Sparks taking home the crown that year.
Ohhh Boo Hoo, suck it up already! You should be glad that you had the opportunity to be in a class of singing in "Idol"..there are so many people whom would love to be in your place, just to have their voice being heard...sometimes its not about the money..Take your 5 minutes of fame and be happy, Damn It..!!
Read the blog post, people -- you will agree with 90% of what he has to say about not relying on fame to carry you through. (And as for the other 10% about him being the only one with a strategy and work ethic, well, yes, tool comes to mind...)
While in the past on AI, only the top two got contracts with 19 Entertainment. This year I believe all four have gotten record contracts so I think Allison and Danny have a shot at success. I'm not sure about the others but Chris is right in that once you're tour is up, so is the backing of AI. That's the way it goes and some contestants can go on to fame like Daughtry and Hudson, but the majority don't.
he's right and thats the way it should be. there should be no free pass. we all must work all our lives. it keeps one focoused and healhty. those who sit on the butt accomplish nothing. hooray for chris. whats he's telling them is dont give up in the face of adversity, work and work hard. even if you have a million dollars why would you want to quit trying to do better?
Welcome to the real world... American Idol as well as every other Fake Reality show is your Andy Warhol 15 minutes and then back to the real world. It is just life's way of saying you had enough talent to get there but not enough to STAY. It is so sad that all of these people think that just because they can sing 16 bars dance a four count read 2 lines without stumbling they are the next coming. You are background and filler for the winners and always have been. The judges know exactly who will be top 3...EVERYONE else is picked to drag the show out 15 weeks. It takes a week to cast a television show . It takes a day to cast a commercial. Everyone is sent home that day who loses. You just had the misfortune of riding coat tails for a season. This is Hollywood and you are replaced in a nano second. Rejection is daily...if you can't handle it then cut your losses be happy you had the good fortune to experience it and move on...stop whining about it.
Come on Days of Our Lives! This story line with Boe and Hope was played out already. Grow up Hope. You are one of the oldest. I'm so sick of you being such a baby. Support your husband. The rest of the storylines are excellant, but Boe and Hope are making me sick. Let's think of something new for them. She'll find a new boyfriend for a while then realize how much she loves Boe after he gets interested in someone else. OLD STORY LINE. COME ON!!!!
Someone tell Chris that "mediocre" does not equate with "idol". He is correct, none of the mediocre (talent, looks personality) go any further, and few people do care about mediocre performers. But those with extraordinary talent will not be forgotten, and they will find success. Chris D., Jennifer H., Kellie P., to name a few. It's all about talent, sorry Chris-you are a real nice guy!
No...you have to have SOME form of talent and a stage presence to make it in music...no whining about the Disney stars...they have their own audience regardless of whether you're part of it. People who whined that 80s music all sucked...were older than that music's target audience and just plain didn't get it. It has nothing to do with your sexual presence, it has more to dom with whether or not you know how to connect with your audience from up there on the stage. Yes, there are more gay performers out there these days and what they do has nothing to do with what they are inside...if they're good performers onstage then it'll come across regardless of who or what they are inside. The really good performers can transcend that... just look at how long Elton John's made music. Bigotry has no place here (or anyplace else, for that matter).
You are wrong Leo. You just have to have a smidge of talent. There are many moe straight and normal performers out there. It is a tough business but those with talent and drive..those are the ones you will see on the charts.
OK already, knock off the whinning...get a job...what did he do before American Idol...? Go get a job...and do your music as a side line if you need money...gosh... It was a contest like any other contest there are winners and there are losers... So you go back to your life like any one else dim wit and maybe start by making yourself healthier and take care of yourself and get a job... NO big deal it was a contest...work like everyone else and stop whinning.,.,.
And yes he really can sing... If you ever saw him or watched when he was on...he truly can sing... But he needs to knock off the whinning... Gosh... Appreciate the fact you made it on the show and the fact you had a little fame and the fact that you just need to go back to your old life and now and again do a record and now and again write another song...you will always be ok...
