It seems everyone's a critic when it comes to Ellen DeGeneres replacing Paula Abdul as judge on 'American Idol.' Even in our poll, 61% said it was unfair to have a judge that's not music based. So on her talk show Tuesday, DeGeneres took the opportunity to confront her critics and defend the controversial decision, US Weekly reported.
"Apparently, there's a lot of debate going on right now whether I'm qualified or not to be the new judge on American Idol," she said. "I know there is a lot chatter. I'll tell you right now, how I know I'm going to be a great judge...I've spent my whole life being judged. So I know what it's like."
DeGeneres, who is openly gay, went on to explain why this quality is just as important as having a musical background. "So I will be kind. I will be compassionate. I will be empathetic, and I will be truthful. I will be an honest judge without being mean."
"But the things that people are saying," she said. "I thought America had moved past this. First, we have the first African American President. We've sworn in our first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice. I think American Idol is ready for their first blonde judge ... I do," she said, lightening the mood with her signature wit.

DeGeneres said she knew that "people would have opinions," but tried to ignore them. "I did not want to know what they were because, why should I take that stuff in?" she explained. "I try not to read anything ... nothing. I don't even read the back of a cereal box.
Despite the critics, DeGeneres added that she is still looking forward to joining 'Idol.' "I'm very excited to be on the show," she said. "I will tell you that right now. I just continue to be excited every single day."
And it seems there is no animosity between her and Abdul. On Abdul's spoof of her at VH1 Divas, DeGeneres joked, "I have nothing but love for you, too, Paula, but I want my wig back. I really do. Give it back."
She's even picked up a new dance move from the impersonation. "She did like a little pat of my butt. I've never patted my butt like that. Today I might try it...it's a new move...she's choreographer and I'm going to take that in."
I have loved Idol from thr beginning but year after year it has been harder to tolerate the talenrless Seacrest. When they brought kara in was the beginning of the end . They did not need another judge but even so she has no charisma for me. Then the way they treated Paula and giving Seacrest all that money was just about the end. Then Ellen was picked . I love her but not on Idol. Thats all she talks about now on her show so have stopped watching it too. Last seasin the judges barely had time to speak and the show was rushed so often it was ridiculous. So I will just watch the x factor on You tube, and leave idol to Fox
American Idol is about the business of pop music. Being a trained musician is not a part of being a judge. (After all, there is no such word as "pitchy" which is used by Randy all of the time. He is not a educated musician. Does he mean intonation?) Ellen certainly is as experienced as all of the other judges in "show business." That is what the show is about. She will be just as successful as any of the other judges. She is a successful performer with her own show.
This should rank high in the "Stupid producer tricks" contest. Dumbest move I have ever seen. It will hasten the demise of AI. When its over Ellen will take her silly ass back to her own show where she can act anyway she wants and the rest of the AI crowd will be out of work.
I disagree.....I can't stand her or anyone for that matter who is gay. Its a disgusting, immoral choice and behavior.....its a disease of the brain which makes you a freak!!! End of Story!!
I want janet jackson as a judge wouldnt that be nice to see a beautiful talented gifted singer no we will be seeing a woman who doesnt wear dresses and her hair is so short she looks like a man she needs to keep on her own show - why ruin american idol and she will bring the show down shame on you ellen
DG can be funny and is a quick wit...she is looking more and more like a ugly guy...if being a quick witted, funny gay, homely looking guy, is what they were looking for then they got what they wanted...can hardly wait to see the show.......not...........
Why do people who are being criticized assume that they are being criticized for something other than what their critics are actually saying? It seems to me that people are questioning her qualifications, not her sexuality. Ellen could have just responded by asking people to give her a chance, first, BEFORE they start criticizing.
I'm not particularly a big fan of Ellen's, but I think she'll bring something new to the show in a positive way, the only person that might miss Paula is Corey Clark
Everyone was right about the choice of Janet Jackson should have been the judge who replaced Paula. Janet has talent, grace, style and beauty. We need our children to watch an american idol show that captures their attention with professional talent as being a role models. Not a person who dresses and look likes a man such as the chosen Ellen, the lesbian.

Ellen, what you are, is against nature. If it was right, you would have a thing to put in the hole. Not two holes.
