It seems everyone's a critic when it comes to Ellen DeGeneres replacing Paula Abdul as judge on 'American Idol.' Even in our poll, 61% said it was unfair to have a judge that's not music based. So on her talk show Tuesday, DeGeneres took the opportunity to confront her critics and defend the controversial decision, US Weekly reported.
"Apparently, there's a lot of debate going on right now whether I'm qualified or not to be the new judge on American Idol," she said. "I know there is a lot chatter. I'll tell you right now, how I know I'm going to be a great judge...I've spent my whole life being judged. So I know what it's like."
DeGeneres, who is openly gay, went on to explain why this quality is just as important as having a musical background. "So I will be kind. I will be compassionate. I will be empathetic, and I will be truthful. I will be an honest judge without being mean."
"But the things that people are saying," she said. "I thought America had moved past this. First, we have the first African American President. We've sworn in our first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice. I think American Idol is ready for their first blonde judge ... I do," she said, lightening the mood with her signature wit.

DeGeneres said she knew that "people would have opinions," but tried to ignore them. "I did not want to know what they were because, why should I take that stuff in?" she explained. "I try not to read anything ... nothing. I don't even read the back of a cereal box.
Despite the critics, DeGeneres added that she is still looking forward to joining 'Idol.' "I'm very excited to be on the show," she said. "I will tell you that right now. I just continue to be excited every single day."
And it seems there is no animosity between her and Abdul. On Abdul's spoof of her at VH1 Divas, DeGeneres joked, "I have nothing but love for you, too, Paula, but I want my wig back. I really do. Give it back."
She's even picked up a new dance move from the impersonation. "She did like a little pat of my butt. I've never patted my butt like that. Today I might try it...it's a new move...she's choreographer and I'm going to take that in."
It does not matter that she is gay. It matters that she is just a airhead that is not funny. She started out as a comedian but that does not mean she has to make a joke out of everything. Her being a judge is the biggest joke of all.
Do I like Ellen? Yes. Do I think she is a qualified judge for Idol? Probably not. Am I going to stop watching a show I love because she is on it? Absolutely not! It seems like people forget that there are 3 other "qualified" judges. If you need to hear the remarks and can't form your own opinion then listen to them. To the people responding so harshly to to her, YOU NEED A LIFE!
I don't think Ellen is the right choice for AI. Simple as that. But as least she's not a friggen space case like Paula. BTW I love Ellen, If I ever met her in person, I'd give her a big squeezy hug, maybe even a smooch on the cheek if I thought she'd let me!! lol
Oh, Boo Hoo. What if you'd been born in afghanistan? You'd be laboring away under a sweaty burka, and you wouldn't dare to ask for things American women take for granted every day. This country has been more than patient, more than fair to homosexuals, my God, you'd be whipped and stoned in some other countries, facing real scorn, driven out to fend for yourself with no support from anyone! Get off your pathetic little pity-pot, you drab, self-serving old cow!
What makes the American Idol producers think that Idol's audience wants to continually hear the opinion of someone who doesn't know what the heck she's talking about...???? Wasn't it possible to find a talented singer/musician with a personality??? AND...for all you posters disrespecting Ellen because of her sexual orientation go soak your head in the toilet!!!!
Dear Ellen, The way we feel is not because you are gay, it's because you have NO experience in the music profession, and dancing in front of your audience does not count. SO, stop playing the gay card! I'm so sick of people using their orientation and race as an excuse for EVERYTHING! And no, I am not white, I am a Latina.
She's spent a liftime being judged? Oh, poor baby! She's spent a lifetime complaining about being judged...no one cares about her. She's old, the audience is young, bye, bye. She's not cool. We got that idiot Ben Lyons off of "At the Movies" we have to get this vain glorius moron off "Idol"
While I love Ellen as a talk show host I am not very happy about her being on Idol. Idol has always been with Paula and not having there is just weird. Having Ellen take her place is even WEIRDER! While she says shes always been judged she is NOT musically smart to know what is good and what is not. Afterall she DID have William Hung on her show...........
Sorry, Not the definition of a WIFE! Call it what you want, but Americans are fickle! When they can procreate then I'll listen, that's whay both have wombs.....Woman....Wombed man.....I like Ellen and think she may be a good judge...but disagree....thank God for freedom of speech!
Who cares? She is dumb dork as is that entire shore. America values have gone to the dogs. We allow this nonsense to lead our news when this country is coming apart at the seems. Wow, maybe Ellen will gain weight like that cow Oprah and we can all feel bad for her too. Holy cow, grow up america.
I am not for anything that legitimizes homosexuality. Ellen is a very public homosexual. Homosexuality is a disorder and we as a society do not need models for disorder. I am unmoved. Ellen should stand judged for publically flaunting her perversion.

She's been judged her entire life...and this somehow qualifies her to judge dancing talent? Good grief.
