Actress Mackenzie Phillips dropped the father of all bombshells - she admits to a long-term sexual affair with her own dad, Mamas and the Papas singer John Phillips, who died in 2001.

"On the eve of my wedding, my father showed up, determined to stop it. I had tons of pills, and Dad had tons of everything too. Eventually I passed out on Dad's bed," she writes. Phillips was 19 at the time.
"My father was not a man with boundaries. He was full of love, and he was sick with drugs. I woke up that night from a blackout to find myself having sex with my own father," she continues.
"Had this happened before? I didn't know. All I can say is it was the first time I was aware of it. For a moment I was in my body, in that horrible truth, and then I slid back into a blackout," Phillips adds.
Their relationship developed consensually and her father even asked her to run away with him.
"One night Dad said, 'We could just run away to a country where no one would look down on us. There are countries where this is an accepted practice. Maybe Fiji.'"
The troubled star has struggled with drugs her entire life, having most recently been arrested just over a year ago in the Los Angeles Airport during a drug bust.
Mackenzie's sister, Chynna Phillips, also recalls the moment when she found out about the affair.
"She said, 'I don't know why, but I just really felt the need to call you and tell you something that I think you need to know.' And she went on to tell me that she had had an incestuous relationship with our dad for about 10 years," Chynna told Usmagazine.com.
"Somebody could have dropped a piano on my head and I probably wouldn't have felt it. But I knew it was true. I mean, who in their right mind would make such a claim if it wasn't true?" she adds of her reaction.
Blame it on drugs - - - Just like people blame it on alcohol. The urge must have been there all along. This is not something you should be eager to share with the world.
Why? Because it's so bizarre and uncommon? This stuff happens everyday. There are psychatrist's who specialize in helping the victims try to deal with it ... get your head out of your fanny and understand that the world is sometimes a very hard, sick ride for the vulnerable. Lifelong drug dependancy is frequently accompanied by a difficult life someone is trying to block out by any means necessary. A lttle compassion would be in order.
Quite a few years ago she came out and said she had affairs with many of the men in bands whom her Dad had good friendships. she admitted to "doing it" in her teens with these men. Why, now,is she finally admitting she also had sex with her own Dad? If she is clean and sober, she should have admitted this the first time around. Now, who can belive her story?
Congrats to her for coming out with her story. The reason sexual abuse exists at large in our society is because of people's taboo and fear of talking about these things. It leads to kids not knowing about sexual abuse, that it happens to plenty, and it causes them not to address what is happening to them and how to come forward.
Everyone who has been victimized by abuse should be able to come forward without shame. I commend her for letting it out.
To those who are insisting that this "can't" be true: Shame on you for ignoring the problems that exist in a good chunk of American homes. You are in your own way a part of the problem.
Her father's dead and can not defend himself. She's a washed up drug addict and needs the publicity and money. I don't believe any of it. Look what's its done, she's on every talk show now. It was just a money making lie.
Yet another person posting that they don't care. Well, you saw the hyperlink. You clicked it. You then read the article to decide it was "TMI". And then you posted.
You took the words right out of my mouth. I agree with you totally. It seems as thought this is the trend i.e., for celebs to claim the outragous after the father is deceased. I don,t buy the story and guess what papa is not here to defend himself.
Her father was always on drugs; that he didn't protect his daughter, that he in effect, raped her while under the influence of drugs should be a criminal matter. Is the bozo still alive?
Nope. The sick bastard died in 2001. I wouldn't put it past him. From what I recall hearing said about him, he was a perv and he even shot Mackenzie up the first time she took heroin, missing the vein and causing her arm to go numb. I don't know why she would want people to know that they had sex, though. Just hearing it makes me want to take a shower, how can she stand talking about it to strangers? Is her need for publicity and the spotlight so intense that she would even bare something like this to the public??
if he was still alive she wouldnt be saying anything about it. she actually spared him by waiting till he was dead to say anything. of course, drugs were the reason or the excuse.

I agree to one of the comment above "...ploy to sell more books" or we should hear the whole details.

You left out the most important part. She wanted attention, her name in the papers, and MONEY.

Dead since 2001.
If ever I had any inclination to buy her book, that would certainly change my mind. I want to throw up when I look at her picture now.
