Mackenzie Phillips Reveals She Slept With Her Own Father

'One Day at a Time' star Mackenzie Phillips promised to tell a juicy family secret -- and boy does she deliver a whopper.

The actress writes in her memoir about her incestuous relationship with her father John Phillips, of Mamas and the Papas fame, PEOPLE reports.

"Don't hate my father," she tells PEOPLE.

She describes that in a haze of drugs, she slept with her father on the night before her wedding.

Actress Mackenzie Phillips dropped the father of all bombshells - she admits to a long-term sexual affair with her own dad, Mamas and the Papas singer John Phillips, who died in 2001.

"On the eve of my wedding, my father showed up, determined to stop it. I had tons of pills, and Dad had tons of everything too. Eventually I passed out on Dad's bed," she writes. Phillips was 19 at the time.

"My father was not a man with boundaries. He was full of love, and he was sick with drugs. I woke up that night from a blackout to find myself having sex with my own father," she continues.

"Had this happened before? I didn't know. All I can say is it was the first time I was aware of it. For a moment I was in my body, in that horrible truth, and then I slid back into a blackout," Phillips adds.

Their relationship developed consensually and her father even asked her to run away with him.

"One night Dad said, 'We could just run away to a country where no one would look down on us. There are countries where this is an accepted practice. Maybe Fiji.'"

The troubled star has struggled with drugs her entire life, having most recently been arrested just over a year ago in the Los Angeles Airport during a drug bust.

Mackenzie's sister, Chynna Phillips, also recalls the moment when she found out about the affair.

"She said, 'I don't know why, but I just really felt the need to call you and tell you something that I think you need to know.' And she went on to tell me that she had had an incestuous relationship with our dad for about 10 years," Chynna told Usmagazine.com.

"Somebody could have dropped a piano on my head and I probably wouldn't have felt it. But I knew it was true. I mean, who in their right mind would make such a claim if it wasn't true?" she adds of her reaction.

Same here, but I thought for a few mins. Okay, she should stop focusing on trying to tell us about her creepy dad, and instead work on her face! She always had those nasty acne scars. Memo to his woman: They have lasers now. And surgery. And good hairstylists. And good make-up artists. And good wardrobe stylists. This woman always looks like such a hot mess! And, I hope she doesn't have kids. If she does, um, way to humiliate your kids w/ this!

I honeslty think they were both so drug ridden that maybe she was haivng a horrible trip..
Why after all these years and AFTER John's death that he cannot comment does this just now appear.

Much of what she sahres in this book is old news.
John Phillips never denied it when she told the Mick Jagger story.
He never denied introducing her to drugs either.
Why is this such a difficult thing to believe from a FATHER who would do the other things?
As for the 2 step mothers denying the story well that is called covering your a** they were there and never did anything to help this poor girl.

Her father took advantage of her blackout, she was almost a child at that age. My niece was started on drugs at age 11 by her cop father. This is the father's fault, he doesn't deserve any secrecy. I knew a group of guys that came upon a girl drunk by a summer camp, and they all had sex with her. Even though she was totally out, they didn't consider it rape.

What's your point? She was 19 when it happened and insists it was consensual. It's gross, but why should I get emotionally invested in what a couple of perverts did to each other willingly while under the influence of a substance/substances they willingly took?

Again, what they did was nasty, but damned if I care what a couple of pervs do to their own genes and mental stability.

Gonch....learn to comprehend what you read. It EVENTUALLY ended up as a consensual relationship. That means it did not START that way. I for one am glad she had the strength to write the book, if it helps only 1 person who has gone through something similar then it was well worth writing.
