Macy Gray Gets Popped By ABC Censors
By PopEater Staff Posted Sep 23rd 2009 10:41AM
Macy Gray knew her debut on 'Dancing With the Stars' was a shaky affair, and she made it clear she was happy to get the Viennese waltz behind her. But it's how she expressed herself off the dance floor, rather than on, that has people buzzing. The 'I Try' singer got herself bleeped by the censors for saying: "I was just glad to get the first dance out of the way. We've been practicing for four weeks, you know? I just feel like I popped my cherry." Watch (via TMZ):
She later told OK! magazine she didn't think anything was wrong with the phrase, citing its "common usage" in society. "That was the best analogy I could think of for the first time you do something."

what are you talking about, you racist p.o.s. ?!
thank you for proving Jimmy Carter's recent statements about race correct. you're a douche dude...I hope something truly awful happens to you very soon.
and as a white guy who lives in the south and wants racism ended in my generation, I'd like to implore African-Americans to not judge all Caucasians by statements like the one made by this waste of life. thx ! =)

I think wishing harm to someone is far worse than the comments you are replying to.
What is wrong with Macy Gray, is she retarded, or does she have a medical condition, or was she high? Very strange. I felt really sorry for her pro.

Robert, you should'nt talk about your mother like that!!!

It was crude. There are a lot of phrases commonly used, emphasis on the word "common", but it doesn't mean one would use it on t.v. And that woman was stoned. I don't know why they even had her on. Her attitude just brought everything down. It's a classy show with a classless person like her.

Yes, a classy show that includes Bruno shouting rude comments at the contestants and others. A classy show that includes talk of sex and sexuality.
I honestly don't understand why people have an issue with real life happening on television. The same people who use any words they want in their lives take issue when they hear it come from their radio or television. Hearing someone say they are glad they popped their cherry on that dance doesn't hurt you or anyone in any way. In fact, it is impossible for you to find it vulgar unless you put your own knowledge and intentions on the words. Just because it's television doesn't mean that people lose their right to speak in a casual manner.
Lawdy! Someone used the word cherry on T.V. and the Cheney, Rush, and Glenn Beck crowd were offended.
I guess it's okay to start a war, torture prisoners, and shout at the President--" you lie ".

"Popping" your "cherry" is common usage, but it is slang for a woman losing her virginity/having her hymen broken. Not appropriate for family TV viewing. This is ABC, not cable. I personally don't have a problem with the expression, but I also don't blame ABC for bleeping it -- they probably would have been fined by the FCC if they hadn't.
Oh, and as for the racist @#$! back there, go @#$! yourself you racist piece of &%$!. Macy Grey is eccentric and odd, I like some of her music, but was not sad to see her go from this show. However, there's no excuse for your racist bigotry, you ignorant @#$!. @#$! off and die.

I guess it's "common usage in society" depends on which side of the ghetto and/or trailerpark you come from.
Very vulgar....the sadder part is that she doesn't even reaize it.

"Common Usage by "Common People..."
The low class screwball didn't even have the class to show up for pre-scheduled interviews the following day. What a piece of work !

Crude? Only if that's how she intended it. Clearly she didn't intend for it to be crude or offensive. If I were to ask you to toss my salad you wouldn't be offended unless I weren't talking about a salad. My point is, the message is the message. Yes, popping ones cherry can be a crude thing to say when referring to a sexual act but when used as a colloquialism it is most certainly not. It is relaxed language and shouldn't have been censored. I actually find censoring language much more offensive than the words themselves. I find it very hypocritical to censor a colloquialism like this while allowing the talk about sex and touching of private body parts. If one is good then the other is as well.
As far as this subtopic of race that's happening, let's drop that one and realize it doesn't apply.
