Goldberg Rips Somers for Swayze Quotes
By PopEater Staff Posted Sep 23rd 2009 03:37PM

Somers was recently quoted as saying doctors "took this beautiful man and they basically put poison in him. Why couldn't they have built him up nutritionally and gotten rid of the toxins in his body?" She has since on her Web site for the comment, saying that she "was not informed or aware" that she was being interviewed "with someone who never identified himself as a reporter." She continued, saying she would have "never have been so insensitive as to offer a public statement so close to his untimely passing."
Despite Somers' apology, Goldberg said on 'The View: "In case she doesn't know, Patrick did everything and went everywhere to try and stay healthy as long as he could. That he's been gone a week and this statement came out is bad timing and bad taste and Suzanne, you know better."
Goldberg, who starred alongside Swayze in the hit film 'Ghost,' went on to say that she's "not sure that's not what you meant to do, but you should have thought about it," referring to Somers and the comment.
In her blog post, Somers says that "having had cancer myself, I know firsthand the pain and suffering heaped on patient and family ... In Toronto, I was thinking out loud and wishing for a different outcome for this beautiful man and his devoted wife. Patrick and his family fought courageously and with integrity right to the end. I know that every choice made in this devastating situation was made with love and care."
Swayze died on September 14 after a nearly 2 year battle with pancreatic cancer. He left behind his wife of 34 years, Lisa Niemi, with whom he shared his greatest and saddest moments. Flip through the gallery for classic photos and quotes from the couple >>

Patrick & Lisa: A Love Story
A 19-year-old Swayze met Lisa Niemi in 1970 at his mother's dance studio and she immediately brought the cocky hunk and his ego down to earth. "She didn't buy any of my nonsense," he's said of their early days. "We spent half our dates in total silence as she wouldn't talk to me if she thought I was putting on an act." Five years later they were married.

It's unfortunate that celebrities cannot say anything off the record. Whoopi herself knows how easy it is for someone to be taken out of context or have their private comments published for the entire world to see. Suzanne's opinions are her opinions, but who is the worst: Suzanne for expressing her opinions or the reporter for publishing them?

Hi Wordsworth,
Yes, sometimes it is unfortunate that sometimes a celebrity cannot say anything off of the record; but it is also unfortunate that they get away with many other things that you or I and others that are not celebrities can.
Somers is right about Chemo, but with Pancreatic cancer he was already too far gone with the cancer by the time he was diagnosed. That is the worse kind of cancer. They can't diagnose until its too late. But KOODO'S for Somers!!!
She says she didn't know she was talking to a reporter, but she apparently knew the person well enough to be spouting off her opinion about Patricks treatment. Did she just happen to strike up a conversation about it with a person on the street. I don't think so. As someone in the public eye, she should know better than to go running off at the mouth about something that is none of her business with a stranger. From what I have read about pancreatic cancer, Patrick lived far longer than most with that disease. she is entitled to her opinion, but it was extemely arrogant and insensitive for her to say what she did, as if her way is the only right way.
The fact of the matter is, Swayze and everyone that has died since was going to die anyway. Just because you are Michael Jackson, Patrick Swayze, Farrah Fawcett, you came here to die. Nobody lives forever. He got cancer, so did Fawcett, Michael Jackson drugged himself to death. No matter the method of death, you will leave here with the method God has already ordained you to leave here. Get over these actors and other famous people die. When they died they died as they should have, and so will you. People have been dying forever, and people will continue to die. Get over already. Would you have taken their place? I didn't think you would.
I don't think anything she said was rude. in no way did it place blame on Patrick. It was simply a question on his treatment. Whoopi should just but out being it has nothing to do with her and Somers wasn't being cruel.
I think Suzanne should not be making statements like that to someone she doesn't know well. Yes, she can have an opinion, but she is a celebrity and knows that everyone is seeking something said from her lips to sell. It was careless, however, I don't think she really meant to hurt the Swayze Family. How does she like it when others have a slip of the tongue to reporters about her?
Suzanne should have paid attention to the wise words of Confusiouc "better to remain silent and have people think your an idiot, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt"
Whoopi needs to quit being so lazy and find something worth talking about on that show.....this is what happens when your to lazy to really work for a living and just come up with something to talk about without engaging your brain first.
I agree, but the most unfortunate thing is, she didn't say anything that was out of line. I think her comment was very respectful, people just do and say things to make headlines! She was attributing her statement to her own experience! She should know!!!
Whoppi, please keep your big fat mouth shut.
well timelytim, first of all the great philosopher's name was confucius, and secondly, his quote was ''better to remain silent and have people think of you as a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.''. Your statement was just a gramatically challenged version of confuscius' words.
Who cares about anything said on the Pew" whoops" the View. Anyway!
Suzanne Summers has every right to comment on his treatment. She has been there. Whoopi should shut up. I suppose now Whoopi thinks that Suzanne is a racist too.
I find that these so called stars show their true self when they make stupid statements that chemo killed Swayze. I too had advanced cancer and chemo helped save my life.I've been cancer free since 1991.Each person is unique and we respond differently.I was given twice the amount not to mention two different types.YOU GO GIRL! GOLDBERG!
I had my 29 year old wife die of Panc Cancer and I do agree he did last longer than the normal victim.. Its a horrible death at the end painfull and sad, and not being able to eat for months at a time and being feed either with a J-tube or G-tube or getting IV's tru a port just to stay alive... Aint a good life.Funny they gave me the movie Ghost when my wife died and now its Pats turn,,Ironic and sad...
I think whoppi should stop hanging around Al Sharpton . These people will do anything to get in the spotlight. Suzanne summers meant no harm, and she was probablly right. Mike Sofarelli
Whoopi is way out of line Suzanne was expressing her opinion. Her mouth runuth over
There was nothing hurtful about her comments. Dr's do not have all the answers. I too, have pancreatic cancer that was diagnoised about 2 years ago. Was initially given 90 days to live and am just a little older than Patrick. I have been watching and praying for him and his family. Having been in Law Enforcement for 30 years I have seen a lot of tragidies concerning the loss of a loved ones. I wish those afflicted strength and hope.
Hiway
Looks like the Yes's have it. No harm done.
Patrick we will all miss you. Thank you for all the Smiles, laughs and tears.
God Bless you!
