Goldberg Rips Somers for Swayze Quotes
By PopEater Staff Posted Sep 23rd 2009 03:37PM

Somers was recently quoted as saying doctors "took this beautiful man and they basically put poison in him. Why couldn't they have built him up nutritionally and gotten rid of the toxins in his body?" She has since on her Web site for the comment, saying that she "was not informed or aware" that she was being interviewed "with someone who never identified himself as a reporter." She continued, saying she would have "never have been so insensitive as to offer a public statement so close to his untimely passing."
Despite Somers' apology, Goldberg said on 'The View: "In case she doesn't know, Patrick did everything and went everywhere to try and stay healthy as long as he could. That he's been gone a week and this statement came out is bad timing and bad taste and Suzanne, you know better."
Goldberg, who starred alongside Swayze in the hit film 'Ghost,' went on to say that she's "not sure that's not what you meant to do, but you should have thought about it," referring to Somers and the comment.
In her blog post, Somers says that "having had cancer myself, I know firsthand the pain and suffering heaped on patient and family ... In Toronto, I was thinking out loud and wishing for a different outcome for this beautiful man and his devoted wife. Patrick and his family fought courageously and with integrity right to the end. I know that every choice made in this devastating situation was made with love and care."
Swayze died on September 14 after a nearly 2 year battle with pancreatic cancer. He left behind his wife of 34 years, Lisa Niemi, with whom he shared his greatest and saddest moments. Flip through the gallery for classic photos and quotes from the couple >>

Patrick & Lisa: A Love Story
A 19-year-old Swayze met Lisa Niemi in 1970 at his mother's dance studio and she immediately brought the cocky hunk and his ego down to earth. "She didn't buy any of my nonsense," he's said of their early days. "We spent half our dates in total silence as she wouldn't talk to me if she thought I was putting on an act." Five years later they were married.

You know I'm not sure why celebriies are constantly trying to get the lion's share of attention. I guess it could be for publicity, etc. but doesn't Whoopi have anything better to do than start trouble. If I were Ms. Sommers I believe I would send a note to Whoopie and tell her to mind her own Business instead of trying to make news at someone else's expense. Whoopi, clean up your own backyard.
Whoopi is the one using someones death to put her own career forward. She is and always has been pathetic.
Suzanne Somers was incredibly careless. I am glad she was able to beat her cancer. But her cancer was not PANCREATIC CANCER! She has NO IDEA what that is like. It is THE WORST. The diagnosis is actually a death sentence with VERY LIMITED time. Its not, oh, you have breast cancer and it hasn't spread and therefore you have time or that it has spread, but with chemo and radiation we can fight it. Pancreatic cancer, NO MATTER WHAT THE TREATMENT, you have VERY LIMITED TIME! PERIOD. I KNOW because my mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last December, before Christmas, and we lost her on June 7th of this year. She barely made it 6 months after the diagnosis. A healthier diet, etc. did not help. It was insensitive of Suzanne Somers. I am not a fan of the view because of its very liberal agenda, but I am a fan of Whoopi Goldberg. And I thank Whoopi for going to bat for going to bat on behalf of Patrick & Lisa Swaze. Pancreatic cancer is devastating! No one who has "survived cancer" can relate to pancreatic cancer in my opinion. You are still alive and you had a chance. You don't currently have anyone who had pancreatic cancer say they beat it. I PRAY that some day SOON, it will happen that some one will find the cure not just for pancreatic cancer, but all cancers. My grandmother died from Ovarian Cancer, if she had gone to the doctor regularly, they could have caught it in time and she might still be with us...maybe... And yes, I know there are people who lost their fight with cancer, but it had nothing to do with the fact that chemo or radiation poisoned their bodiies. They died because the cancer was stronger and more wide spread perhaps... or it came back stronger... Suzanne Somers, your "apology" is hollow. You shouldn't have said anything to anyone--reporter or not--because you are dead wrong on your "opinion." Get the facts about pancreatic cancer before you say anything else!
Do not mess with Guinan.
Suzanne should never opened her mouth to begin with but think about her remark: "If I'd known it was a reporter, I would have never said what I did"
Would she have lied to the reporter and expressed her TRUE feelings to everyone else? Again, Suzanne opens mouth and inserts foot.
Whoopi is an idiot!
Before anybody goes out to crush Somers for what hse said, try getting some education on the biology of how cancer works, and how it can easily be countered using it's biology. Goggle: Otto Warburg and read. Be prepared to get angry at your capitalistic medical establishement when you do. Think our healthcare crisis is really being solved by Washington and New York with this issue (cancer)not even being dealt with correctly on purpose? Yeah, right. Get your health in order. The human body was designed to operate a certain way. Not just "evolved".
unfortunately stars rarely should assume that anything that they say is "off the record", however, Whoopi did not have to put her 2 cents, especially since Swayze in fact did NOT do everything to keep himself healthy. He smoked most of his life and continued to even after his diagnosis. Cancer is a terrible thing, and I am sure that Somers is sincerely pained if she has caused any pain to Swayze's family.
Whoopie Goldberg is an angry person and it makes her feel better to cut down others as if she is better. I can't stand the "View" and he is one of the reasons. Suzanne Somers is right, if she wasnt, then everyone who took chemo therapy at their doctors advice (being FDA approved no less) should still be alive if it worked so good.
A real "Hot topic". They should close that show down. I see Whoopee is already testing the waters with her appearance on Hells Kitchen
or....Whoopi Goldberg (whom I love) for being so judgemental of Miss Somers? I'm sure no harm was meant.
Whether she meant for it to go public or not, it did, and it is the truth. When are they going to stop putting that poison in people and start using alternative resources? There are other forms of radiation that can be used for stage 4 pancreatic cancer that is less invasive to the entire body AND may allow the patient to live for up to 5 years longer.
While I don't take issue with someone who comments on the death of another person, I do take issue with someone who thinks they have the right to dictate what others should be able to say or feel. It seems that having been in a movie, Ms Goldberg is suddenly an expert on cancer and death. Quite frankly, I have seen cancer from many sides of the spectrum, with not doing anything being the most successful. If someone sees what doctors doing as experimenting with victims, perhaps that is because it still is experimenting. There is no cure for cancer. And no real preventive from getting it. No matter what doctors or politicians tell you, if you are going to get it, you will, and if you are going to die from it, you will.
Whoopie is very rude and does not know what she is talking about half the time. When you watch her on the View she looks like she does not want to be there. Her answers are always the right ones and no one can say anything about it. It is her way or no way. People need to wake up and get Whoopie off the show. She can't be that great if she has not been in a good movie for a very long long time.

When you can spell the person's name about whom you are speaking, then you can be taken seriously. Ms. Goldberg knew Patrick Swayze intimately, and Ms. Somers did not. She had no knowledge of what he was doing concerning his cancer and shouldn't have spoken on it to anyone, reporter or not, especially so close to his passing. Having one kind of cancer does not make you an expert on ALL cancers. She was wrong and if it was my friend, I would have blasted her as well.
Why don't you just stop tuning in? Whoopie doesn't miss a beat. You'll notice at the beginning of the show she will always send congratulations or heartfelt sympathies for those who have experienced something in their lives. She is extremely smart. You probably like Elizabeth, huh?
What movie have you been in? Or talk show? Or what did you win a Oscar for? Did you star in a movie with Patrick? Where you close friends with him? Yes Whoopie has every right to lash out and you have no idea what you are talking about.
When was the last time Suzanne Sommers was in a good movie? Everyone is entitled to there opinion, but sometimes it's best to keep your opinion to yourself. I am glad to see whoppi stand up for her friend! It's easy to condemn someone who is not here to defend themselves! Very insensitive Ms. Sommers!!
YESSIREE BOB! Whoopi is about as smart as a box of rocks. She is neither a comedian or an commentator, just a loud mouth SNOOK!
right on JK whoopie has an attitude. a me, me and me problem.
