Goldberg Rips Somers for Swayze Quotes
By PopEater Staff Posted Sep 23rd 2009 03:37PM

Somers was recently quoted as saying doctors "took this beautiful man and they basically put poison in him. Why couldn't they have built him up nutritionally and gotten rid of the toxins in his body?" She has since on her Web site for the comment, saying that she "was not informed or aware" that she was being interviewed "with someone who never identified himself as a reporter." She continued, saying she would have "never have been so insensitive as to offer a public statement so close to his untimely passing."
Despite Somers' apology, Goldberg said on 'The View: "In case she doesn't know, Patrick did everything and went everywhere to try and stay healthy as long as he could. That he's been gone a week and this statement came out is bad timing and bad taste and Suzanne, you know better."
Goldberg, who starred alongside Swayze in the hit film 'Ghost,' went on to say that she's "not sure that's not what you meant to do, but you should have thought about it," referring to Somers and the comment.
In her blog post, Somers says that "having had cancer myself, I know firsthand the pain and suffering heaped on patient and family ... In Toronto, I was thinking out loud and wishing for a different outcome for this beautiful man and his devoted wife. Patrick and his family fought courageously and with integrity right to the end. I know that every choice made in this devastating situation was made with love and care."
Swayze died on September 14 after a nearly 2 year battle with pancreatic cancer. He left behind his wife of 34 years, Lisa Niemi, with whom he shared his greatest and saddest moments. Flip through the gallery for classic photos and quotes from the couple >>

Patrick & Lisa: A Love Story
A 19-year-old Swayze met Lisa Niemi in 1970 at his mother's dance studio and she immediately brought the cocky hunk and his ego down to earth. "She didn't buy any of my nonsense," he's said of their early days. "We spent half our dates in total silence as she wouldn't talk to me if she thought I was putting on an act." Five years later they were married.

JK, Didn't your mama ever teach you " If you don't have anything nice to say; say nothing at all. It's called the View because it gives us a chance to hear different views on topics of the day. I don't really care for Elizabeth's views; however, I respect that she has her opinions and a fourm in which she can covey them. One day she my change my point of view which inturn may change my life. Keep in mind that we all live here in the world and we should all do our part for the better. Summer's comments ( and I respect her ) were a bit insensitive at this time for the greving. She is not a specialist on the subject. She should be able to go on the View, after the hipe, and set her story strait with factual based backup. I hope for your sake that you work on your open-mindedness and look at your own house before you go spouting ugliness into the world. The World would be a much better place. Thank you and Have a Great day.
My words actually, JK!
Well said JK....Had u noticed when others say anything, she's off 2 the side shaking her head yes or no...or making these grins like everyone else is crazy...Alot of my critisizm comes from overkill of watching the same personalities everyday...let's face it...they "all grate" on our nerves over time..Next is,Joy will now b more of an authority on everything cuz of her upcoming talk show....
Whoopi's job is mediator, which means her answers are meant to lead into the next topic of conversation! It's not that her opinions are the best or anything like that. In fact she was hired for that position. Think about it!
What Whoopie LOOKS like is not the topic - Suzanne's comment is. Suzanne has been in the media for decades - and she has encouraged the media's attention to proclaim how misunderstood she has been after making similar thoughtless comments, i.e. the "Three's Company" mess. Now she says she had no idea this guy was a reporter??? Did he introduce himself as the Pope? Has she gone crazy??? It appears to be just another piss poor attempt to worm her way out of responsibility for another thoughtless statement. It won't be her first. One thing I can say about Suzanne for sure - she takes no responsibility for her own mistakes but expects everyone else to take responsibility for theirs, i.e. her movie exposing her father as an abuser alchoholic while her mother stood by & watched. Wise up Suzanne. You have no clue what Patrick did to try to save his life, which means you're clueless.
I think Whoopi is very smart and down to earth,, and brings a good mix to the view,, I think she was commenting out of compassion,, re: Sommers comment Sommers was out of line and insensitive.
We all have lost someone a loved one to natural causes, and or illness, it is even harder to have watched that someone fight the hardest battle of thier life. Then to hear someone comment on how they could have fought differently,, is just wrong.
She should have thought before speaking.
As far as being in movies lately ,, what about Joy, Barbara, Sherrie no movies I know of and that Elizabeth now that's rude. Glad she is gone right now, makes better viewing of the show.
you are absolutely correct JK,Whoopie has an attitude problem. It's like she is living in a fantacy world that she knows better than anybody well, though!.
Somers knows exactly what she is talking about. I believe there's no harm whether she was talking to a reporter or not. Her comment was not distastful ut just pure facts. For the most part, chemo does kill people before the cancer does. That's just the facts. Whoppi was just digging for attention!
Sorry, but if you read any of Suzanne's books, you'd know that her cures are way wacked out. She's into a lot of very weird concoctions that most in the medical profession see as voodoo. What might have worked for her, would not work for most people. Yes, she can have her opinion, but to spout that stuff about a person she knows nothing about, and about his cancer, was wrong. Whoopie was totally correct that Suzanne should keep her mouth shut and I applaud Whoopie for having the balls to tell her off.
Whoppie is actually great. She is smart and very good on the view. I like her very much. Most of the ladies on the view are great.. The two dopes they had on there only one is left. The blonde bimbo needs to go. Suzanne should not have said anything to anyone about Patrick's treatment so close to his death. She maybe an expert on her type of cancer but she is not an expert on all types of cancers.

The reason why pancreatic cancer ALWAYS kill is that the pancreas is buried deep in our abdomen, covered by our stomach and small intestine. The only reason pancreatic cancer is discovered is that the person complains of abdominal pain which could be anything. CAT Scan shows the pancreatic mass and at this stage, the cancer cells have migrated to other parts of the body. Our breasts are out there and we can actually palpate for masses. There is no routine screening for pancreatic cancer; there is routine screening for breast cancer depending on the family health history. Sommers should keep her thoughts to herself because she doesn't know anything about pancreatic cancer and the location of pancreas. If she did, she would not have said anything.
My husband has an ileostomy & cannot be tested in the usual way for colon or pancreatic cancer. There is a blood test however which he takes every year CA19-9 which is one of the "markers" for these cancers.
Johnnnnniesss You have a problem all of your own...What man actualy watches the View? Most all men hate those shrews!! Especially Whoopi and Joy!! LOL you need to realize you have problems before you go attacking others.Actually Suzanne knew him many many years before Whopper was in the Ghastly movie with him.STFU since you didn't even know that!!!
Oh . . . did Joy Bahar bleach her hair???
Oh goodness . . . did Joy Bahar bleach her hair?
Yes, take Hasselbeck off and just move it to MSNBC where it will fit right in.
Jenny, if most don't like Joy and Whoopi is because they are right many of the times. As far as men watching the View they do. Also, just because Suzanne met Patrick before Whoopi has nothing to do with how well Patrick and Suzanne knew each other. Whoopi and Patrick knew each other very well and you're the only one I know who calls Ghost a "ghastly" film?? That says a lot right there.
Yes,cudos!to Suzanne for alternative treatment! It isn't like she was implying that it be "taken" on a personal level directed at Patrick or any family member...maybe more of us should look more into alternative treatment, for a change, especially since it seems that most die from cancer rather than survive it. And as far as Whoop De Doo goes, maybe it's time for her to focus more on getting a "new" Doo! rather than "ALL UP" in everybody else' business...
It's good that Suzanne Somers is talking about alternative treatments to cancer at a time when people are listening. If others consider alternative treatments, maybe it will encourage our society to learn more about preventing cancer and also to seek alternative treatments instead of chemo, treatments that are not controlled by private companies only in it for the money.
