Goldberg Rips Somers for Swayze Quotes

Whoopi Goldberg put Suzanne Somers' comments regarding the death of actor Patrick Swayze in her crosshairs on 'The View' on Wednesday, lashing out at the actress for recent comments in which she hinted that chemotherapy and not cancer is what killed the 'Dirty Dancing' star. Somers took to her blog to defend herself, saying she had no idea she was speaking to a reporter at the time, and that having gone through cancer herself, she'd never say anything hurtful toward Swayze or his family. Somers was recently quoted as saying doctors "took this beautiful man and they basically put poison in him. Why couldn't they have built him up nutritionally and gotten rid of the toxins in his body?" She has since on her Web site for the comment, saying that she "was not informed or aware" that she was being interviewed "with someone who never identified himself as a reporter." She continued, saying she would have "never have been so insensitive as to offer a public statement so close to his untimely passing."

Despite Somers' apology, Goldberg said on 'The View: "In case she doesn't know, Patrick did everything and went everywhere to try and stay healthy as long as he could. That he's been gone a week and this statement came out is bad timing and bad taste and Suzanne, you know better."

Goldberg, who starred alongside Swayze in the hit film 'Ghost,' went on to say that she's "not sure that's not what you meant to do, but you should have thought about it," referring to Somers and the comment.

In her blog post, Somers says that "having had cancer myself, I know firsthand the pain and suffering heaped on patient and family ... In Toronto, I was thinking out loud and wishing for a different outcome for this beautiful man and his devoted wife. Patrick and his family fought courageously and with integrity right to the end. I know that every choice made in this devastating situation was made with love and care."

Swayze died on September 14 after a nearly 2 year battle with pancreatic cancer. He left behind his wife of 34 years, Lisa Niemi, with whom he shared his greatest and saddest moments. Flip through the gallery for classic photos and quotes from the couple >>

Somers should have not commented on this. There is alternative treatment, then there is magical thinking, and then there is chemo. High success rate goes to the chemo. Whoopie was correct. No one's business but Patrick's.

I was just looking at the sideshow of Patrick and his wife.. What a great love story.. I wish their we're more like that in the world..

Actually many forms of Chemo are toxic on varying levels. when undergoing chemo the pt. has to abstain from sex as the toxins could seriously harm or even kill your partner.

What's the difference, it worked for Suzanne and who is to say it wouldn't have worked for Patrick if he hadn't done the chemo, the chemo obviously didn't save him, did it? Whoopie needs to calm down and quit attacking people, she is exploiting Patrick by going on about it even more. Just because your on the view doesn't give you the right to talk trash about people, they think they get a free pass because they are ont The View!

Just because they are on The View does that give these ladies the right to trash people on a daily basis, Shut up Whoopie, Suzanne meant no harm, and how do we really know if he would still be here if he hadn't had the chemo? It obviously did not work, he is gone and way too soon. I highly doubt if Suzanne was being malicious in anything she said.

Pancreatic cancer is a killer. There is no cure. I do not care how "many nutrients you take".
The whole digestive process is compromised when that vital organ is affected. Chemotherapy can prolong life by slowing down the process.

I think Whoppi got too defensive about Suzanne's comment about Patrick Swayze; after all, Suzanne battled cancer herself and surely knows what it is like to go thru such an ordeal; Suzanne expressed her opinion as Whoppi did, and therefore Whoppi should not take offense. After all, Whoppi, as much as I like you, you need to stop becomingg a-know-it-all-celebrity. THERE ARE TOO MANY ALREADY.

I AGREE with Whoopi!!!!!! She is a VERY SMART lady and was a close personal friend of the Swayzes'. I feel Ms Somers should have not made any comments about something she knew nothing about. Her Cancer was totally different from what patrick had and yes in some cases the reatment she chose to take works but in Pancreatic Cancer it wouldn't have helped. Like others have stated once this type of cancer is found it it always Stage 3 if not Stage 4 due to the location. Once again I AGREE TOTALLY with Whoopis' way of handling the situation. STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF WHOOPI WE LOVE YOU!!!

Suzanne is right, Chemo does kill people. She does know, and her book is aersome. If everyone just took one page from her book, and applied that to their life, they would be amazed at how healthy they would be. She does know what she is talking about, and Whoopie is rude, because she doens't know anything about chemo, or cancer. Way to go on your comment aol member!!!
