what is surprising is that she didnt use Susan Boyle's name to sell her miserable tale of retirement.
who cares what Lilly allen does
LILY ALLEN_____WHO ON GODS GOOD EARTH IS SHE?
HELL!!!!!IF YOUR LOOKING FOR NEWS OR NEW STORIES TO POST____BRING BACK MR MAGOO.
AT LEAST WE KNOW HIM.
Pirate and steal every piece of music that you can from these self serving liberals, who take your money and make millions and then tell you how much you should pay in taxes and how to live your life. Screw these shams!
Lilly Allen sang the song "The Fear" and "F*** You"
No kidding!
Who would want to steal her music anyway? She should pay us! Sounded like Paris Hilton having an orgasm! Good riddance! Seems she was only in it for the money anyway! Hope she doesn't try acting!
...maybe Roller Derby...she got the hips!
Well, at least you were able to do it for awhile. I've been a musician longer than you have been alive and have watched my dream evaporate because of the issues that face artists.

music should be free! if you dont love making music you shouldnt be making it! IF YOU ARE MAKING MUSIC FOR THE MONEY YOU SHOULDNT BE MAKING MUSIC!
Erik,
It's called the "music business". I don't know of any business that can survive making things for free.
Erikk,
"music should be free! if you dont love making music you shouldnt be making it! IF YOU ARE MAKING MUSIC FOR THE MONEY YOU SHOULDNT BE MAKING MUSIC!"
I love making music but if people simply stole it, I'd still resent the fact. If I were to become an athlete, should I do that for free? What if I wanted to become an economist or political science teacher? I would love to do all these things but does that mean I should do it for free simply because I love doing it?
I see the whole situation almost like reverting back to the late 1800's/early 1900's and earlier when musicians would simply have to make money from performing live.
I'm not saying I want or expect to become some multi-millionaire from making music but I see how many long hours(some people I know work 12 hour days, not including the hour drive each way to work) people have to work that leaves only a slight amount of time for band practice or shows. What I'm trying to say is, whether a musician loves music or not, they're still human and have to eat food, sleep in shelter, keep warm in clothes and if it were more profitable, it would be only natural that you would see better quality as well as quantity from musicians as you would from any industry once profit and competitiveness increase.
If a band wants to release their music for free, then good for them. It's a great promotional tool to do so, but if a band doesn't want to do that, don't get angry at them for not wanting to be that starving artist. People have every right to do what they want with THEIR property(including intellectual), which includes you too. Spend 10 minutes thinking about how much property rights have helped to better your life and everyone else's around you. Anyway, I've said enough.
I have more compassion for Robert losing his dream, than for someone who simply cannot handle hers when it comes true.
Erikk,
To be frank, you're talking like a child. Be honest with yourself and admit that you're just speaking out of convenience, trying to justify your desire to not pay for what you use.
Now, I'm not a musician but a writer, but puerile people often say the same thing about what I do. They say "Information should be free." Well, Erikk, do you like writing your papers for school? Takes a lot of work, doesn't it? It's also difficult for me; creating a quality, well-researched 1500-word essay may take 10 hours. Are you going to say that I shouldn't be compensated for my time? Remember that if people such as me can't make money writing, we'll have to work in another field (because we have to eat), one in which people can't steal the fruits of our labors. And then there won't be time to write.
Also remember that news gathering is expensive business. Papers have to have news bureaus in different parts of the world; send reporters to faraway land;, pay airfare, food and housing costs; etc. If you want to know what's happening in Iraq, Afghanistan and the rest of the world, you need news gathering. And for media organs to conduct news gathering, they need money.
Try being mature and putting yourself in others' shoes. The Golden Rule: do unto others what you would have others do unto you.
Thank you Renie Nelson.
I only want to sing and perform my songs, not to be a rich rock star but because I'm a musician and this is what I do. Working to pay the bills in another field leaves very little time to practice, write record (which by the way costs money) etc. Some of us studied music and worked many years on our craft to be able to be a professional in the music business. It's really not a lot different than becoming an Architect for example.
I think Lilly may have received success to easily and doesn't have a clear perspective of how fortunate she really is.
Gotta say, this bums me out a little. I really enjoy her music...but then again, she's not the first musician to claim they're done with it and pop up again.

I think you're missing the point. Lily never seemed to care about fame and money, and puts pride in her music and just wants to make a living like the rest of us. It's too bad when your music is devalued by people pirating music and the way labels will twist you around to fit you into their own mold. Musicians get it. You don't. Leave it at that.
you are so wrong! musicians DO NOT get it. look at metallica, they suck and they have sued their own fans for simply liking there music enough to download it. most musicians now days think they deserve to make millions, and if you think it is the people who download music for free that ruined the industry you are sadly mistaken. THE GREEDY, money hhungry record labels have ruined the music industry not the people who love the music.
Unfortunately ppl have no real idea as to what the effects of what they do. They think they're not doing any harm taking away money from rich record execs and rock stars and that's only the tip of the ice burg.
I was one of MANY regular every day workers w/ a normal, average position in a major record label. And then i got layed off. Do u really think that they cut from the top? No they cut from the bottom up. I got cut w/ 13 other people in my office. 600 in the US. And over 1,000 world wide.
Think about it next time u decide to damn the big Whigs. Ur not effecting them. Ur effecting ur average joe like you. How wud u feel?
(no actual response necessary. It's a rhetorical question. And I wont be back to see ur response. Just a FACT for you to think about)
