'One Day at a Time' star Mackenzie Phillips has made shocking revelations in a new memoir, claiming that she and her father carried on a 10-year incestuous relationship. The actress says that she broke off the relationship with her dad, The Mamas and the Papas singer John Phillips, when she became pregnant; Phillips told Oprah Winfrey, "I was in a relationship with my son's father as well... I did not know who the father was. The implications, the reality of that... I had an abortion and I never let him touch me again."
Not true, say two of John Phillips' ex-wives. According to an Access Hollywood report, both Genevieve Waite Phillips and Michelle Phillips condemn the allegations as pure fiction.
"I am stunned by Mackenzie's terrible allegations about her father," Genevieve Phillips, who was married to John during the time of the alleged affair, said in a statement to Oprah on Wednesday. "I would often complain to John about her overly familiar attitude towards him and he would tell me that that was just her way. John was a good man who had the disease of alcoholism and drug addiction. He was incapable, no matter how drunk or drugged he was, of having such a relationship with his own child."
The Mamas and the Papas singer Michelle Phillips, who married John in 1962, claims that Mackenzie revealed the affair in 1997 - but told her stepmom she was joking. "She called me back and said, 'You know I'm joking,'" Michelle told The Hollywood Reporter. "I said it wasn't funny. Mackenzie said, 'I guess we have different senses of humor.'"

"John was a bad parent, and a drug addict. But [slept with] his daughter? If she thinks it's true, why isn't she with a good psychiatrist on a couch?" Michelle said. "I think it's unconscionable that Oprah would let her do her show. I have every reason to believe it's untrue. Oprah should be more judicious about who she has on her show.
She added, "Mackenzie has a lot of mental illness. She's had a needle stuck up her arm for 'Rehab' and now she writes a book. The whole thing is timed."
Mackenzie's other family members are speaking out though and seem to support the claims that the "consensual" sexual relationship really did happen. Mackenzie's sister, Chynna Phillips recalls the moment when she found out about the affair.
"She said, 'I don't know why, but I just really felt the need to call you and tell you something that I think you need to know.' And she went on to tell me that she had had an incestuous relationship with our dad for about 10 years," Chynna told Usmagazine.com.
"Somebody could have dropped a piano on my head and I probably wouldn't have felt it. But I knew it was true. I mean, who in their right mind would make such a claim if it wasn't true?" she adds of her reaction.
Oprah is standing by the interview -- revealing the show did a lot of research about the scandal to make sure it was true.
John and Genevieve's son, Tamerlane Phillips, did not say if he believes the actress' claims or not, but noted his family's troubled history.
"My family is and always will be a decrepit bowl of dog urine compared to Nityananda of Ganeshpuri," Tamerlane told the New York Post. "That is how great Nityananda is." The Indian yogi died in 1961. "Worship Nityananda, not the Phillips family. Nityananda can protect you," he said.
I was taken back by Michelle Phillips comments on this story! How could she claim that the story is not true! How would she possibly know??? She was busy having affairs with band members & anybody that said "hello" to her! amazzzzzing!
Well, you can look at it three ways. 1)She's telling the truth. 2)She's lieing, but she just increased her book sales by One thousand percent. or 3)she's telling the truth, and she increased her book sales by one thousand percent.
It is not our place to make the determination that this didn't happen. Neither is it the wives/ex-wives of Phillips. I think they saw something...be it what they call familiarity...whatever...they CHOSE to DO NOTHING. other than ask the perpetrator..who would be expected to do nothing less than pass it off as something as incredulous as it being "just her way" and continuing in his deeds.. His response gave them what they wanted to hear so that they didn't have to dig deeper and find out the truth. Shame on them. AND THAT is the main reason they didn't dig further....Because they would be blamed for not DOING SOMETHING. It was easier to believe in their fantasy life and ignore the ugliness it contained. It is easier to let people believe Mackenzie is lying or so screwed up she doesn't know what the truth is..just to keep themselves from being judged and criticized.OR having to admit to their own failure as a parent. Just bury it and keep it that way...is that their thinking? Seems so. I believe MacKenzie.
Incest, like all human patterns, healthy or dysfunctional, is a learned behavior. I and my siblings experienced every form of child abuse and neglect as we were growing up. Decades have passed while I dug for the reason(s)that bad things were done to me by the two people I should have been able to love and trust implicitly.
Finally, I realized that those people's toxic actions had nothing to do with who I am...it was all about them. They were so immersed in pain from their own unresolved issues that they had no clue that they were hurting another being, an innocent child, at that. When I blew the whistle and gave them a chance, my birth dad admitted the truth of my claims, my birth mother denied all wrong-doing, and neither of them ever changed. Thank God they're both dead now and unable to hurt other children.
As for me, I've used my divine gifts of writing and painting to help heal myself and to be happy and at peace with who I am. The best revenge is a life well lived.
In going public with her personal experiences, Phillips shows amazing courage and strength. I'm certain she knew beforehand that she would become a target for those who are unconscious. I heartily applaud her choice to speak her truth anyway! Blessings to you, Mac!
It's very sad situation, however if it's true, it should of been discussed while her father was alive! For Mackenzie to call Michelle back to say she was joking?? That is no joke!
My best friend in high school went from gregarious to quiet. She would still act like things were OK but you could see something was bothering her. She married the first guy interested in her. Now, 30 yrs. later she told me her father was abusing her sexually and she just had to get out of the house. She has received her college degrees in counseling and is totally dedicated to helping others deal with the pain of their childhood abuse so they can recover and enjoy the rest of their lives. I believe Mckenzie and find it very interesting that a comment mentioned Lindsey Lohan. I had the good fortune of having a real family man for a father, who would have protected me from any harm if he could. I married the same kind of man, he died after an accident. I don't think many men have their qualities from the women who share their relationship stories. Peace.
Why is she waiting until her dad is dead to tell? Some ask. Think about it, you too would wait until your dad died to admit that. First of all, even people who were molested by their dads still love their dads and don't want to hurt their dads...so he is gone now and she tells. That is normal and to her probably respectful. Also, it is normal to wait this long to tell something like that, many women that get raped are so ashamed and hide their feelings, they get good at that, but once they get older and learn more about life, and themselves, they find what the problem is, and getting that secret out helps them. So she put that info in a book, many people put their secrets in a book, she isn't the first and has nothing to do whether this happened or not. No one was in the her bedroom and cannot vouch if this happened but her, God and the dad, but if you think she is lying, just look around on tv and see all these men raping little girls, and it happens more than you all know so stay in denial if you want, you probably know someone who is being raped right now by a relative but will be too stupid to pay attention. It happens and most victims do NOT tell while they are young.
lmaoo@her showing her father respect after he dies by telling the world they were having sex together, she doesn't even respect herself. Debbe my dear you are to soft hearted..you are comparing oranges with apples, she wasn't some little girl that got raped or molested. Being raped and molested by something is a god awful thing, but sleeping with your father for 10 yrs. till you are damn near 30 is insane!!!
What a bunch of low life creeps! Who "consentually" sleeps and gets knocked up by their own biological Father? No amount of drugs, booze or both could make me so morally drained as to do something so sick! And then go on TV and write a book about it? Blaming who? She was a grown person while doing this! Then she gets "awwwws and poor you's from Oprah!" She is a twisted POS! She wanted money, and this is how she gets it! This is what having no limits does to you! Makes you white trash!

Remember folks we have no proof, just the claims of a disturbed former drug addict.
PROOF is what is needed, not hearsay.
