Former teen idol Kirk Cameron has it out for Charles Darwin, and is making no apologies for his controversial (and mocked, see below) plan to distribute thousands of altered copies of 'The Origin of Species' to college students.
The 'Growing Pains' alum released a video last week announcing that on Nov. 19, he and other Creationist activists will distribute a special 'Species' with a 50-page intro that slams evolution and paints Darwin as both racist and misogynistic and explicitly highlights "Adolph Hitler's undeniable connection to the theory." Nov. 21 is the 150th anniversary of the book's original publication.
Cameron tells PEOPLE he is "proud to bring this to people's attention" and hopes his plan will curb the rise of Atheism among college kids. Watch the actor's video, left, and a critics' reaction to it, after the jump.
"Atheism has been on the rise for years now, and the Bible of the atheists is 'The Origin of Species'," Cameron says. "We have a situation in our country where young people are entering college with a belief in God and exiting with that faith being stripped and shredded. What we want to do is have student make an informed, educated decision before they chuck their faith."
He backs his beliefs by citing a study that found that in the nation's top schools, a clear majority of Psychology and Biology professors describe themselves as Atheist or Agnostic.
"No wonder Atheism has doubled in the last 20 years among 19-25 year olds," he explains in the video. "An entire generation is being brainwashed by Atheistic Evolution!"

The 50-page intro, written by evangelist author Ray Comfort, will present a "balanced view of Creationism with information from scientists who actually believe God created the universe." Those scientists include Albert Einstein and a host of thinkers whose lives predated 'The Origin of Species,' such as Isaac Newton and Nicolaus Copernicus.
His plan has quickly ruffled feathers among academics, who blast his claims that evolutionary theory is not compatible with Christianity. Cameron's campaign has also been met with spoof videos galore, including a popular rebuttal by YouTube user ZOMGitsCriss, who splices up the original video with counterpoint-by-point arguments. Her 'Origin of Stupidity' has received over 4 times more views than Cameron's.
The actor's faith, of course, is nothing new. He became a born-again Christian 20 years ago while still playing Mike Seaver on the ABC hit 'Growing Pains' and has since made a name for himself as the go-to actor for evangelical films, namely the massive 'Left Behind' series.
He resides near Los Angeles and has six children with his wife of 20 years, Chelsea Noble.
When asked by PEOPLE what he would do if his own kids ended up believing in evolution: "Could I accept it? Yeah sure," he says. "I accepted a lot of things that are not true before I was able to sit down and listen to more then one side and think things through the issues. I would sit them down and tell them that I was happy that they were thinking about this stuff, now let's look at all of the information and see if we don't come to a better conclusion. If after that, they still come to the same conclusion, so be it."
I say this to myself often. Keep it simple stupid!!! and trust me God is very simple. Why do we try our darndest to outwit God? were killing ourselves trying to, relax people. Oh the weight of the world we heap upon ourselves. If you really listen in silence you will hear. Give yourself a break from stubborness and just ask Him are you really you, and you'll see..........HE IS!!!
Well, only one of you can be right. If you use your brain and consider how complex even the simplest living things are, you would agree with him. There is a God, and He did CREATE everything
Why the debate? People believe what they believe and there is very little chance of convincing any one to believe the opposite. Darwinism is the religion of atheists; it is a matter of faith with no scientific evidence to support it, In fact quite the contrary. I can accept that my beliefs seem ludicrous to those who believe differently and they should accept that their beliefs seem ridiculous to me. I don’t need to try to convince them that God is real and they shouldn’t claim that Darwinism is scientifically sound. Darwinism is a theory, nothing more.
I don't know what the big fuss is about creationism-vs-evolution??? God created the world and it evolves and grows and adapts. Why does there have to be two separate arguments??
PREACH!! Why can't evolution just be God's plan?? Why is that so hard for creationists to wrap their brains around? It's actually a pretty smart plan because it leaves room for a lot of contingencies. Cameron isn't giving God enough credit with creativity and experimentation here.
That is EXACTLY what I believe. Why is it so one sided? Some people take the Bible word for word and it's been in so many different languages and translated so many times, it probably doesn't even say what it originally said. This subject just chaps my ass every time!!
I agree, there is basic scientific fact but why can't that be what our Creator had planned all along? I don't get the extreme views on either end. I believe we have evolved and I believe that was the plan. Because the bible says it isn't so. Got news for everyone, God did not write the bible and there was no divine intervention on King James part either. The bible was written and re-written by men who molded it to their own satisfation. Adam and Eve? Really? So, who did Cain and Able sleep with to re-produce? My guess would have to be Eve. Of course incest is a sin so how does that even make sense? On the flip side, I believe in God and his plan was evolution!
Renuelcrow - Your comments make the most sense out here. I have always held the same position as you; it's what they now call intelligent design. I have long argued that, yes, the Big Bang Theory might well be accurate, but someone still had to create the stuff that went "Bang."
"since SOMETHING CAN NOT COME FROM NOTHING..." Yeah, right. If God exists, then that by itself would prove that 'something can come from nothing'. If God can come from nothing, then so could anything else.
Actually Tom you are wrong on your assesment of something coming from nothing. Are you actually willing to believe that the entire universe and space and time popped out of nothing???? That takes 1000 times more faith and than christianity ever would. It's laughable and unscientific. God neither began to exist nor is He in space or time, so he is NOT something coming from nothing because He did not COME into existence. He always existed, which may be hard for you to grasp, but not when you understand that He is OUTSIDE of TIME, because he CREATED time.
I agree with you totally. It hurts me when we try to prove others wrong instead of focusing on the love part. That is the only thing that works. I pray that Christians stop arguing with the world to get them to believe in God. It hurts the Kingdom of Heaven more than helps. Pride stupid and foolish pride.
I agree 100%!!! Why are the two mutually exclusive? I love Jesus and believe in evolution. The theory of evoltuion is itself constantly evolving due to the inherent nature of science itself but what, God has left all these signs in his world just to test our faith? The fact that species evolve is part of his amazing plan-what a feat of engineering! So why do we continue with this debate? YOu know, the church has always rejected science. If it were up to the church, we would still think the earth was flat and the sun revolved around the earth......Christians have got to get over this-the longer this goes on the less credibility we have with non believers and is that really what Jesus's wants us to spend our time on?
Christianity and evolution can not co-exist. If you are a "christian", you accept the bible word for word. Evolution is in conflict with all of genisis, and much of the remainder of the old testament. If you say you are a "christian" and still accept evolution, you are saying that the bible is a metaphorical story book. And if the main cannon of your religion is metaphorical, then so must the "god" be that it professes.
There is no conflict between evolution and creation. People who believe that there is did not have a good science teacher. Evolution means change. We would not be here if we had not been created. You do not need to be taught that you were created, it is a given. Evolution simply asks the question: how do things change over time? Don't forget. All of the people on the earth today came from Africa. The people who walked out of Africa eons ago changed into all of the "races" that you see today.
There are 2 types of evolution: Micro & Macro. Micro-evolution (or natural selection) refers to the changes within a species while macro-evolution (or Darwinian evolution) is the addition of new traits or a transition to a new species. Micro-evolution is seen plainly in nature, however, macro has never been proven, even by Richard Dawkins. When Christians say that they don't believe in "evolution," they're referring to Darwinian evolution, not micro-evolution. Search Eddie Snipes with the Exchanged Life Outreach. His research, among many others', explains these facts in more detail.

Of course things change because we are human and screw up HIs plans, but the world He created should not evolve beyond or without Him.

Tooo Shay...I am a Born Again Christian and I dont understand where creationists get this theory from, there is nothing specific in the Bible.
Who said God couldnt use the big bang, since SOMETHING CAN NOT COME FROM NOTHING who is to say GOD didnt use that...
