Who: Push Play Album: 'Found'
Video: 'Midnight Romeo'
Hails From: Long Island, NY
For Fans Of: All Time Low and the
All-American Rejects
Why They're About to Pop: CJ Baran (vocals, guitar), Steve Scarola (guitar, keyboards), Nick DeTurris (bass) and Derek Ries (drums) grew up together in Long Island, NY. DeTurris explains, "When I first met CJ, our relationship grew around our interest in skateboarding. Now it is centered on music. He pushed me to get a bass, and that was the origin of this band coming together. Derek and Steve came along about three years ago, so we really have been building this for quite a while."
The band built a local following with hard work and determination and were touted as "The Best Band on Long Island" by the Long Island Press. In an unprecedented feat, the rock four-piece sold out two of New York City's premier venues, Irving Plaza and the Nokia Theater. The band was soon signed to Wind-Up Records, and released their smash single, 'Midnight Romeo' from their new album 'Found.' The video features
'Hannah Montana' star and labelmate
Emily Osment and has caused a veritable frenzy over the band since its release. 'Found' hits stores on September 29.
Seven Questions With Drummer Derek Ries:
Your fans seem very dedicated. What's the craziest thing a fan has ever done for you? There have been so many crazy fan experiences; it's hard to pinpoint one! Fans have done everything from following us for three weeks through the east coast leg of our tour to adopting us a penguin from the zoo!
How has the band evolved since you first started playing together? Our shows are on a bigger scale -- larger venues, bigger production, and much more equipment. Our songs have evolved -- we are much better song writers than in the beginning, and have worked with premier producers rather than producing the album ourselves.
Who have been the bands musical influences, and who are you listening to now? Our musical interests as a whole are very vast and out there. We all have different tastes but are open minded and share a common interest in bands like
Muse and
Kings of Leon. CJ is really into pop acts, Steve's taste leans toward heavier bands, Nick likes Long Island based bands, and I am into more indie rock bands. Right now, I can't get enough of the new
Mutemath album!
What's your favorite song from your new album, and why? My favorite song is probably 'Midnight Romeo' because it has something for everyone. It's a groovin' tune, the lyrics are out there and it's our first radio single.
You're about to head on the road with Jessie James. What are some things you can't live without on tour? On a bus, I'm always sure to bring my iPhone, MacBook, pillow from home, Sega Genesis and coffee maker!
What has been the most memorable moment of your career so far? There have been several -- becoming part of the Wind-Up family, debuting on the the Top 40 pop charts and hearing ourselves on the radio. Also, I'm sure the release of our first CD will be up there.
What advice would you give to other young bands who are hoping to get signed? Hard work pays off! Promote yourself in anyway possible, especially with online marketing -- it's the online social network era!

In the question about what advice to give to young bands out there CJ should include the fact that it doesnt help to have absurdly rich parents who are willing to buy your fame which is exactly the case here. GUy cant even sing, he uses an auto-tuner live
