WHY do people even bother getting married these days?? As soon as it gets tough, they QUIT. That's NOT what a committment of marriage is.

For all of U upset that gay unions will rock the marriage institution, I suggest a constitutional amendment to outlaw divorce. Now that will strengthen the ties but good.

I don't know about a constitutional ammendment to outlaw divorce, how about just allowing any consentual adult to marry any other consentual adult regardless of sex, and making it a contract that is binding for "X" number of years that has to be renewed like a drivers license. Then when it's time to renew, the couple can eithr renew for a specific amount of time or each party goes their seperate ways according to the terms of the individual contract that was drawn up prior to the "marriage". This way dirty divorces will be a thing of the past, and divorce lawyers will not be necessary. Clean, simple, and I bet people will stay together longer. My late Uncle and Aunt were to gether for over 25 years, no marriage, no wedding. Verry happy. They got married, and were divorced within 5 years. I have a cousin who married and divorced the same man 3 times. They had 5 kids during that ime. After the last divorce within 6 months they were back together, and never remarried, and have been together for almost 55 years. There must be something about that little piece of paper that screws some people up. I have been married 31.5 years, it's not always easy, and sometimes I'm sure she can't stand me, but you make it work.

Hey Wayne - Thats a great idea because I see that in my own family. Together for a long time, then comes marriage and then suddenly they cant stand to live with each other! What is that? I remember when it wasnt so easy to get a divorce and courts made it difficult. You had to face each other in reconciliation meetings before the court would even contemplate your request. I think that was a better system. Everyone is looking for a fairytale relationship, never realizing that everyone has issues to deal with. Only God is perfect.

For all those who are saying "3 months why bother getting married." You must remember that the article mentioned it was a Vegas wedding...and as the saying goes, 'What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas'. They left Vegas.
