Kris Allen Chats 'Idol,' His New Album and Why He's Pro-Ellen DeGeneres
Still trying to catch his breath from the whirlwind of his 'American Idol' win, Kris Allen is finally getting settled as a solo artist. Giving fans a peek of what is to come on his new record (on sale November 17), he has released 'Live Like We're Dying,' which delivers a strong message about living life to the fullest. "This first single is a really good introduction to what the rest of the album is going to sound like. It's raw and has an organic feel," Allen tells PopEater. After the jump, he opens up about his post-'Idol' career, what he misses about home and why he's Pro-Ellen DeGeneres.
Listen to 'Live Like We're Dying'
On his post-'Idol' experience: "It's been crazy. We got off the show and went straight into the tour and started making the album. Now we're just focused on the album. It's a good feeling to be focused on one thing. I feel like I should be catching my breath, but sometimes my mind doesn't allow me to do that."
About his new single, 'Live Like We're Dying': "Producers Andrew Frampton, Steve Kipner,
What he regrets not doing: "I really want to go skydiving, but I'm terrified. I hear it is the coolest thing in the world and the biggest rush. That is something I would want to do at some point in my life."
On working on his own music instead of rehashing covers: "It feels really good. When I tried out for 'American Idol,' my goal was not to win. It was to go out and hopefully do well enough that I could have the opportunity for a music career. That's why I did this."
How his family has dealt with his 'Idol' win? "It has been crazy for them. They're back home where everything is crazy; your hometown is going to go crazier about you than the rest of the world. My mom even gets emails from fans. I don't know how they get her email address. She'll be like, 'Can you sign this for a fan?' and I'm like, 'What the heck, mom? How did you get that?' They deal with a lot of stuff, but they're awesome. They are doing great and trying to get back to somewhat of a normal life right now."
What he misses about home: "I miss my family and friends. Before this, I spent every day with them. It will be good to see them when I do."
On Ellen DeGeneres replacing Paula Abdul as an 'Idol' judge: "Ellen is a good fit for the show. She is going to do a great job. Everyone loves her. She's so funny, but at the same time, she's so warm and easy to talk to... Paula was that warm personality on the show. You were never scared of her or what she was going to say. I don't think any one is going to be scared of Ellen's comments either. She is going to give a good listeners' perspective."

No, I haven't heard his cd but that was what I expected. He is not really a good singer. He could sing but I heard better. I was really hoping Adam would've won but He has an AWESOME voice, but to each its own. Thanks for the update though.

Ummm... Charlie... I don't know if YOU missed it, or maybe didn't bother to read the article, but the article quotes Kris saying THIS: "Originally The Script released this song previously as like a B-side track in Germany."
Yup - it's a cover. (Had you ever heard of The Script before all the articles of it being a cover?) Why do you think a cover is the only song they released before the CD? Did you REALLY imagine they would pre-release an Original tune? LOL

I agree San, it's a cool song, with a great message. I've listened to both Kris' version and to The Script's version - and I have to say - I like The Script's version better. They don't mush and mumble their words like Kris ALWAYS does! (Kris SOOOO needs a diction coach!) On youtube there is a video of The Script doing it and it gives all the lyrics. Search for it - you'll like it.

I just wanted to say that I am disappointed with Kris' single. The fact that Kris did not know that this was a recent cover is not professional on his part. He did not change anything and mumbled the words. I am holding off on ordering Kris' album and will order Adam's today. I have no doubt that anything Adam sings will be amazing. Adam even made "No Boundaries" sound good when Kris had to dump it. It seems strange that Kris is the "winner".

Funny. Both Kris and Adam released a studio version of No Boundaries. Kris sold around 136,000 copies on Itunes and Adam sold 35,000. Which version did most people prefer I wonder? Adam had a single released in August. It went no where. Don't get my wrong. I think Adam deserves to make it big, but because of you nasty fans that constantly bash Kris, I refuse to buy anything of Adams. You people are actually hurting your favorite American Idol and are to stupid to know it....lol

No one knew that the Script had released Lived Like We're Dying as a 'B' side in Germany, until the Glambert attack squad went on a witch hunt. The song was never released in the US, before Kris' version.
I agree with Billboard magazine, that Kris' vocal is the superior one on this song. Kris has very good diction.

Great single Kris. Very catchy & radio friendly which is just what he needs for the new single!!
If anyone has been involved in AI in other years , they would know that with the winners first single, most are not original tunes as the single comes out just as the tour is finishing & so there would be no time to produce a new song .
However the album comes out later so Kris will be able to have musical input into this!! Kris is working with some great people for his album, so I am excited about that !!
