Adam Lambert: Bigger Than the Beatles?

Adam Lambert proves again that on 'American Idol,' you don't have to come in first place to sell records. The runner-up is winning in Amazon.com sales, with orders bigger than the Beatles and Madonna, the New York Post reports.

His debut album, which isn't released until Nov. 24, took the No. 2 spot on the bestsellers list Monday. He was outranked only by Barbara Steisand.

Amazingly, since the record company did not announce that the CD was available for pre-order, all sales were perpetuated by word of mouth.

Within hours of a fan's discovery that it was for sale on Amazon, the news spread through the Twitter and 'Idol' blog communities, and the album quickly made its way up the Bestsellers list.

Lambert, 27, joins other successful runner-ups like Jennifer Hudson, Clay Aiken and Chris Daughtry, who have gone on to overshadow the winners of their respective seasons.

This is for Michael who said Adam is "definately more gayer". He has accomplished more in one year than you have accomplished in your narrow minded mind your entire life. Don't be fearful of his sexuality, unless you fear your own!

Actually what Lambert has accomplished is fascinating. Without any promotion at all, with the album being all but impossible to find on Amazon, and without any press from his label RCA, he still holds not the number two Amazon spot, but as of tonight he's ranked NUMBER 1.

And yeah, yeah, Amazon sales don't account for everything but they are still roughly 20% of all hard CD sales, followed closely by Barnes and Noble (20% and Lambert at #7 in pre-releases) and Best Buy (Lambert is ranked #2) Walmart and other retailers. Add that to his phenomenal rankings overseas and I'd say that gives him a good head start.

I can't wait to actually HEAR him sing a song from this album.

The Beatles have sold over 1 Billion records worldwide. If Adam lives to be 98 years old, he will never beat that record. He will never be bigger than The Beatles.

Doubt that Adam will ever match up to the Beatles, Madonna, or Michael Jackson for that matter. All it is is hype over his american idol appearance. Just like he was hyped on by the judges and much of the public, the media and public frenzy will die down and like another poster said 20, 30, or 40 years down the road he still won't be selling records like the other mentioned muscicians.

if he was not gay ,he would be so "yesterday" hahaha!! when gay sales are over he will have a "hards day night" trying to find "help "for his career......lol. so "hey jude" "let it be" and "get back " to reality? hahaha....lol
