It's a busy day in Gosselin-ville. Jon Gosselin is trying to slow down -- if not halt altogether -- his divorce from Kate Gosselin, telling In Touch Weekly exclusively: "I regret my conduct since Kate and I separated ... I used poor judgment in publicly socializing with other women so soon." He's filed paperwork looking to stall the divorce for 90 days "to regain control over the future of our family." In other news, TLC has announced that 'Jon & Kate Plus Eight' will now be titled 'Kate Plus Eight,' and Jon's role will be minimized.
Gosselin's lawyer, Mark Jay Heller, tells In Touch that his client "woke up one morning, looked in the mirror and didn't like the reflection." In turn, Gosselin filed paperwork hoping to stall his divorce from Kate for 90 days, telling In Touch it will "enable Kate and me to restore our relationship as cooperative parents and to open up our lines of communication. I hope that she will be as receptive and enthusiastic as I am to do what is best for our family."
"Even though we were heading for a divorce, it appeared that Kate had been suffering from this divorce as much as I had. That's why I asked my attorney to put the brakes on this divorce so I could try to regain control over the future of our family. So Kate and I could join on a cooperative course that would benefit our family -- not destroy it," Jon tells In Touch Weekly.
The news comes as TLC has announced that the reality show that shot them to fame and eventually contributed to their split is being renamed to 'Kate Plus Eight,' dropping the 'Jon &' part. Jon will still be on the show, only with lessening frequency.
The renamed "Kate Plus Eight," which begins Nov. 2, will continue to chronicle the lives of the Gosselin kids (5-year-old sextuplets and 8-year-old twins) but will also focus on Kate's role as a single mother.
"It's not a huge shift, but it's reflective of where the show was already going," said Eileen O'Neill, TLC's president and general manager.
"Jon's going to be involved in the show," she said, adding that he will be seen less often than before. TLC retains an exclusive arrangement with him, as well as the rest of the family, O'Neill said.
The couple made their separation official on a "Jon & Kate" episode that aired in June and was seen by 10.6 million viewers.
The rupture came after weeks of tabloid reports of marital strains and infidelities, which both spouses denied. On the show, the parental co-stars barely spoke to each other.
Since then, media coverage of the squabbling exes has continued full-bore, and both Jon and Kate have made separate he-said-she-said talk-show rounds. They are in divorce proceedings.
It's quite a change since the series clicked with viewers two years ago for its heartwarming look at the challenges of raising eight young children.
Going forward, O'Neill said, "We hope for the sake of the family that things are more manageable. I don't think anyone asked for that amount of attention."
She spoke hopefully of a bright future for the series and dismissed a report circulating Tuesday that Kate Gosselin had posted a tweet that this season might be the last: Kate doesn't have a Twitter account, O'Neill said.
Although the audience for recent "Jon & Kate" airings has dropped below two million viewers, the current season has averaged a robust 3.2 million (even omitting its two record-setting "event" episodes), which represents an increase of 300,000 viewers over last season.
Discussions are under way with Kate Gosselin for another series that might debut in 2010, O'Neill said.
"I think there's an opportunity for Kate beyond her role as a supermom to explore her other interests," O'Neill said.
Meanwhile, with reality-based programming that also includes "Little People, Big World," "What Not to Wear" and "LA Ink," the network is boasting a year of consecutive month-to-month audience gains.

I think Jon and Kate should get back together for the kids, they need to take counceling and come to some kind of an agreement, ITS NEVER TO LATE, people are saying cruel things because they are''FAMOUS'', So what every one makes mistakes, but theres was just publicly announced.
Man u guys really frustrate me. No one knows them like each other. I think they both have good intentions. They are both great parents and i dont think we should be judging them this harshly. No One knows what went on behind the cameras. No One, but them and the kids. We dont know how stressful it was to be parents of 8 little kids. And i think a supermom is classified not as perfect but instead the amazing talent to handle 8 little screaming kids running around at once and giving them the love they deserve. If we are in agreement of that definition of a "Super Mom", then i think Kate Goesslin has succeeded. She has also managed to keep her head on straight going through this divorce. I can't imagine what they are both going through. I wish the whole family luck. They all deserve it, even Jon.
I was going to comment, but Oscar and I must have been separated at birth because he said EXACTLY what I was thinking. Has there ever been a guy more deserving of the title, "doofus?"
You are SSSOOO dead on! What in God's name causes people to actually tune into this awful show and follow the lives of these nerdy people to begin with? Senator Daniel Patrick Moinahan was prophetic when he predicted the "dumbing down of America". Reality TV in general and shows like this one in particular are symptomatic of Americas headlong leap into mediocrity and anesthetized intelligence. Somebody save us from ourselves!
If Jon were my brother or son, I would be kicking his butt for his behavior. I'm tired of people bashing Kate. He could have separated from her before he started cheating and acting like a child. Yes Kate could be a nag, but if you can't step up and say back off like an adult you get what you get.
I am praying Jon and Kate will show the world that God can really make a difference in their lives and put their family back together! But if they don't... I think "Kate and Kids" is a better name. That's what my 11 year old calls the show now. Praying for them all....
I dont think Jon cares about the money, I agree with him about getting his kids out of the public eye. Look at all the big stars kids, and the ones that started out as kids. the drugs , drinking and partying we've heard so much about. Maybe he doesnt want that for his kids. I raised five and I wouldnt want my life or my kids lives to be a weekly show.
I have two really big questions marks about Jon. One, on Larry King, I did not see every second of interview but most of it, and not once did he talk about his kids as human beings. He doesn't have to give their names, but if he is so concerned about what the show is doing to them, why is there ZERO reference to them as people. You know somethin like this: "The boys tell me they get tired of all the hubbub. The girls get sick more often since the show has been on than before. I get tired of all the cameras myself, I can imagine it must be hard for my kids and so I sat down and talked with them and they say..." THERE IS NONE OF THAT.
I find his claims to be protecting the kids false. The talk is ALL ABOUT HIM AND HOW HE HATES THIS AND THAT AND KATE IS DOING THIS AND THAT AND HE IS A VICTIM...YADA YADA YADA.
All of what he says may be true, I don't know Kate any better than I know him...I think though he got blindsided by having too many kids so fast and so young, he feels he is being robbed of his youth.
He was defensive and angry on Larry King, not about his kids, but about all the negative publicity.
Second question mark: Is he going to change his mind again tomorrow? Want to get the show back? Actually I have a third Question mark too.
Why does he have to do all this on Larry King and other shows? He doesn't. He can go through the courts and the arbitrator and do it all off camera. There is not reason one, especially since he wants the show to end, to go on TV with any of his...stuff....I don't even know what to call it. It is just a bunch of stuff and nonsense
He wants the show to be DONE with, which is the right thing. Look what it's done; it's ruined a family. She's no saint, either. Both have made mistakes, but I think her wanting to continue to shove her already tantrum prone and behaviorally challenged kids into the spotlight shows poor judgment. Both of them need to step back and reevaluate their lives and family before continuing this show. I support Jon's grown up decision to stop something that might make him a lot of money, but will definitely ruin his life and his family's life in the meantime.
How transparent can Jon be? His announcement just happens to coincide with the show being renamed Kate Plus 8. The only thing Jon sees is less dollar signs and so this is his new plan- to want to suddenly reconcile. It would be nice if he really did wake up and see how he's been behaving.
That's exactly what went through my head when I read this. It's too much of a coincidence to be anything else. He's just worried he's going to be getting less money.
It's not only the money he's gonna lose. It's the dollars AND the recurring TV role that keeps young women flocking to his side. Once he's out of the spotlight and his money is gone, the girls he's been having so much fun showing off are gonna leave him like a chuck of stale bread!
I really wish he was really that concerned for his family, But we all know that he is not. How sad. I pray for all concern that he grows up beore the kids do.
You hit the nail on the head, PUBLICITY STUNT .People eat this crap up and love it when there is dirty laundry. Just like some useta was,has been actor saying something about incest in order to sell books for money . Nobody would buy unless there was something bazaaro, weirdo stuff in it .Just like selling your sole
What would be "great" if both parents would just concentrate on the 8.....not on TV, but in real life. Neither of them seem willing to quit the show, get real jobs and raise these poor kids they brought into the world. Talk about pimping - this is the #1.....close behind are the breeders in Arkansas.

Something to do with money for sure.

I agree that it would be best for the family if he sincerely wants to reconcile. I have still lost respect for him and gained admiration for Kate!
Took the words right out of my mouth! He's worried about being separated from the money not the family.
